DirectX 12 works on both X1 and PC, Forza 5 showcased on PC

Microsoft don't give a shit about pc. The will primarily be used as a gimmick to promote Xbone. Valve are the future Charles, not them, they no longer matter.

They said "all Microsoft platforms", so hopefully it's not Win 8 exclusive.

What does it matter if they show Forza 5 @60fps on PC?

Windows 7 is not a current Microsoft platform though; it was discontinued some time in 2012 (in terms of being shipped to retail)

@musicalmac: Nothing much. The engine is already a DX powered engine so getting a single build working on a PC was probably not that difficult.

This in no way means they are porting Forza.

What is nice about this is that developers can build PC games in DX12 and port them easily to the Xbox One. However I don't know if DirectX will be the way forward. Most PC devs are moving to OpenGL with engines supporting both renderers. Both the Unreal 4 and CryEngine 3 now have an OpenGL renderer.

True. I get the sinking feeling that last generation Microsoft platforms (i.e. Xbox 360, Windows 7, and Windows Phone 7) will be left out of the loop on this one though.

i wouldn't get excited for a couple of reasons..

1) if this does come to pc, you can bet microsoft will force windows 8 upon us.. Just like they did with project spark.. I'm invited to the spark beta but i am not getting windows 8, so they can haul their arse with that beta.

2) Forza 5 is still just a racing game, and racing games are boring.. After playing a game like this for 10 minutes, i'd hardly care if i ever played it again.

3) this would make no sense for microsoft , since if they do that they will be undercutting their consoles exclusives.. there is very little reason to own a xbox one already... Having forza on pc would put the nail on the coffin. Xbox one is the worst thing microsoft has released... If i was to get a free xbox one i wouldnt even care.. I'd be like MEH i have an xbonee.. Now what do i play? Just killer instinct? Why play titanfall on that crappy system when my pc blows it away easily with my r9 290. Tsk

I'm with Charizard in that I'm skeptical DX12 comes to win7 though it'd be smart for them to do so. They'll take the view that DX12 will help drive Win8 adoption, when instead they'll simply get far less DX12 support because of the relatively small Win8 install base.

Yeah, probably. Similar to what Kojima did with MGS5 which was showcased on PC, but not announced for PC.

Then again, what's the point of showcasing Forza 5 on PC? To show it actually looks and runs better on PC than on Xbox One?

I doubt Forza will go to PC...but if it did it would be awesome. More hardware support (wheels, pedals, etc), better graphics and multi screen support that doesn't require 3 consoles...I'd go out and build a $1500 PC without batting an eye.

edit: FM5 actually doesn't support multi screens, but the 360 games do and they require 3 consoles.

Does it mean that we will have to buy new Dx12 GPUs (in order to play, let's say, Forza), as I understand current GPUs don't support it ? If the former is true, then no thanks. I bought GTX780 just 8 month ago.

Was quite informative good to hear that its going to be supported by current hardware so we'll likely see in the next year a few blips on major firmware and driver updates for gpus, cpu's and mother boards, good decrease in overhead so more power will be available from the cpu and gpu, and decrease in power usage of dx12 enabled hardware.

Kinda disappointed with the amount of info they unveiled.

Forza on PC can be really probable, as Xbox One is flopping really hard because of PS4 success. They might want to recover their investment.

Ok. I got like zero sense from your tirade. As I understood you are butthurt about smth, probably because of the fact that Xbox One is not doing great, but whatever, I don't really care.

Now what I am thinking is if DirectX12 is being ported to xbox one which have a last gen DirectX11 GPU, then it surely can be ported to latest DirectX11 GPUs on PC as well. Probably DirectX12 is some sort of an optimized version of the 11.

depends on your definition. The truth is both the PS4 and Xbox one have inferior hardware compared to whats available. But in the same sense a honda has inferior hardware compared to a porche. Doesn't mean its not a great car that'll get you back and forth to work everyday just fine ;)
