‘In doing so, it reminded me of something I hadn't thought deeply about for some time - the fact that the PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 era actually delivered what must surely be the biggest gen-on-gen downgrade in overall game performance... if you ignore Nintendo 64, that is. In looking at these newly enhanced FPS Boost releases, I also decided to go back and revisit their showings on Xbox 360 too - because Series consoles aren't just delivering a doubling of performance, but often much, much more. Standard back-compat on Xbox Series consoles effectively solves their original performance issues - they hit their (mostly) 30fps frame-rate caps. However, FPS Boost goes one step further, reminding us that 60fps used to be the norm, not the exception.’

Bit like your overly positive dual sense thread, did you get paid for that.

RDR in 4K on Xbox One X still looks better than most games today.

It's the attention to detail, not the fidelity which wowes people.

If it was the fidelity GTA Trilogy would look amazing, and it doesn't: it looks like utter trash.

Gears 3 looks so good! Damn!

What I find disturbing is that now I want to play Sonic Generations.

Playing through Max Payne 3 again and it looks gorgeous on Series X. Shame they threw the towel in on BC.

360 games were good and MS helps keep them alive. Good on MS.

Damn, the Xbox keeps delivering. Must suck having to solely rely on old hardware. 😎

To be fair it is one of the best modern Sonic games. Which unfortunately isn't saying much.

@girlusocrazy: Ah, I don't know... how many is many?

Sure, there are limitations, but is it a bad thing that they're putting the work in? 134 titles so far is for sure more than 0, which is roughly how many you're getting on other console platforms.

Sounds like a nice little something for nothing to me.

@girlusocrazy: Be nice if they can drip feed out a few really high demand titles in future, but fair enough I guess.

Not much of a console gamer myself, so I'll probably never bite, but it's a decent perk. Really adds value, in my eyes, to Series S as an affordable current gen and retro system. Kind of hope more platforms adopt the same approach in future.

Nice. I’m very much looking forward to trying out a bunch of my 360 on the Xbox Series X when I manage to get one. Really love all the work that Microsoft put in on their backwards compatibility initiative.

That conveniently ended when they actually started having new first party content out. That's not a coincidence

Banjo Kazooie looks like an n64 game, or maybe it actually is an n64 straight port to xbox 360. Super fun though.

So, in your imaginary world, Xbox never released a game since they started to support BC?😂 You are such a 🤡

@BenjaminBanklin: That could be true, but whatever the case, bc is a win-win for the consumer. How I wish that I could buy Persona 4, put the disc into my PS4 and it would work.

It was always my understanding that Xbox's backwards compatibility program was limited by developers being willing/licensing and games being compatible with the general solutions created by Microsoft without the need of massive work done in an individual level.

I get that the anti Xbox crew will try to downplay this because that plastic box hurts their feelings but managing to bring 700+ title under the program was extremely cool.

And as I understand it, now they've exhausted the possibilities of their program and doing more would mean a very different approach with probably much more manpower and money. I think that's why Phill was just recently talking about a change in the industry regarding emulation as a way to assure game preservation, because that could be the path forward.

This gen? No. There's been no "new" first party content for Series X until FH5

The problem with these copyrights new changes is the fact most publishers don't like the idea of supporting BC as of now and I say this because GTA Remastered was a huge buggy mess on launch day. Publishers would rather just re-release remasters and charge full price and rush the game without testing for bugs is an example I don't like seeing.

We all knew BC support was going to be limited due to contract licenses so I'm totally fine MS is ending support even though they don't have a saying on do/don't copyright laws.
