Summary

The game outputs 4k on PS5 and Xbox Series X and 1440p on Xbox Series S, both with checkerboarding and unlocked framerates (capped to 60fps). All consoles deliver the same general image quality.

Ray-Tracing OFF

With ray-tracing off, all consoles hit 60fps pretty much all the time.

Ray-Tracing ON

The game's ray-tracing implementation has been optimized from when it was last used in Devil May Cry. The performance hit is a lot less. RT reflections are at 1/4 resolution. It still makes the game look noticeably better.

With ray-tracing on, PS5 and Xbox Series X hit 60fps a lot of the time, but they dip significantly under stress, with PS5 dipping harder than Xbox Series X. VRR basically makes the dips unnoticeable on Xbox Series X. Xbox Series S hits 30fps, but struggles to maintain that.

Game Loading

PS5 eliminates all loading screens; loading a save just fades to black for a second or two. Xbox Series S/X still has loading screens, about 7-9 seconds to start the game or load a save.

Other

The game makes full use of the DualSense controller on PS5, with the adaptive triggers providing different effects for each weapon. On Xbox Series S/X, it uses the Impact Triggers and rumble as well, but obviously it isn't as good as the DualSense.

The game uses 3D audio and also supports traditional surround sound.

Capcom's HDR implementation is still kinda wonky (still no support for HGIG).

So basically, PS5 gives you faster loading (no loading screens) and DualSense support, Xbox Series X gives you better performance when ray-tracing is turned on.

*laughs at RT on console*

If you must play this game on a console it's clear that the PS5 is the winner here.

When will the Series X/S not take half an hour to load the game? When?

The RT is terrible, even the PC barely betters it. Capcom couldn't be arsed on that aspect.

Ponies are on suicide watch when big games are getting better on Series X , they can cry all they want but Resident Evil Village runs better on Series X.

Xbox Series X is a lock 60fps regardless of mode. Xbox has been dominating these side by side comparisons. Not surprising since the Series X is a lot more powerful.

Well done Microsoft.

They just wanted to simulate nervousness on the Series X.

The Series X can drop in RT mode and sometimes drops as hard as PS5 in the same areas. Only most cases, the drops are 10% less severe on Series X.

@Zero_epyon: It’s basically locked at 60fps bud lol. I am not sure why you are unhinged just because the PS5 drops a lot more often.

It’s a win for Xbox Series X and it should be. It’s a more powerful and capable system. Just wait until developers are able to implement RDNA 2 features in there games. It’s a beautiful time to be a next gen Xbox gamer.

If dropping to the 40's is basically locked then the same can be said of the PS5.

Anybody dabble in both modes? Is RT worth the dips or is it more preferable just to play at no-RT locked 60fps? I imagine RT is ideal with TVs with VRR, I don't have the luxury yet.

Debating whether to get this one or not. I'm not a horror fan but I adore RE4 and I heard that this is more akin to that.
