Summary

Transferring files

  • No real surprises when transferring from internal to external: NVMe fastest (by far), SATA in the middle, hard drive slowest
  • Transferring external to internal, SATA was faster than NVMe (!), and hard drive was slowest

Game Loading

  • Lots of varying results here, but the general gist is that external SSDs were neck-and-neck and generally faster (!) than the internal SSD, and the external hard drive was slowest.
  • They recommend using a SATA SSD as the best option for external storage, since NVMe doesn't really do better in game loading.

After all that bragging about the magical PS5 SSD, it can't even beat an external SATA SSD in game loading. Maybe Sony should allow PS5 games to run from an external SATA; it'll probably get better performance than the pokey internal SSD. 😂

But the Unreal demo was only possible thanks to the magical PS5 SSD!

So let's recap:

  • PS5 storage
    • can't beat Xbox Series S/X storage in loading games
    • can't beat external SSDs in loading games
    • is much lower available capacity than Xbox Series X
    • can't be extended yet, because reasons

And this is the magical PS5 super storage that cows like to brag about. 🤣

Damn! The PS5 internal super godlike SSD is being outclassed by weaker SSD.😂

Bunch of trolls in this thread are laughing at the Mark Cerny's creation. But just you wait until the SSD's full potential is unlocked. You won't be laughing when that happens, pal.

Clearly no one watched it. He does go into possible reasons concerning the old gen games.

Wtf are you talking about? The PS5 internal SSD almost always beats the XSX and XSS. Many of the same games also use much less storage space due to superior compression.

Edit: lmao your talking about old games!

I can't speak for the PS5 because I don't have one. But what I do know is that the NVMe SSD in my PC is simply amazing. So freaking fast. It's well worth the investment.

So several months late with a (generous to say) half finished update. It is still slower than the competition and with a (theoretical, on paper) 2x memory bandwidth. I been playing Prey (2017 recently) and the game lads up in just mere seconds. Well, it's true, greatness truly does wait.

I found out the hard way when I went from regular SSD to NVME 2.0 last year and the results blew me away! Not too long ago, I bought another 1TB NVME 2.0 and investing both NVME is indeed worth the price. These next-gen consoles wish they went with NVME 2.0 would make things easier since they are becoming more affordable now😅😅😅
