Of course that's how it turned out. According to one cow on SW, the X1X is the more half assed mid gen upgrade but the proof is in the pudding as they say. HDR support came via firmware update and super sampling, something that was shit on when MS revealed X1X, has come late. I remember when super sampling was made fun of by a few cows that I suspect are using different names now. It was just made up PR according to them in order to help sell the X to people without 4k TVs. Yet now Sony is stuffing it into their half assed upgrade.

I think people confused by this are fundamentally missing what is going on.

There is nothing "half-assed" about this nor is it any different from the X1X. What IS halfassed is the hardware. Because literally all this is is the Pro forcing its "4k" mode regardless of actual screen resolution. That is the only reason why there are performance issues in some cases: specifically, the same cases where its 4k mode pushes the gpu too hard. This is no different from the x1x - we have a number of great examples now where its resolution mode is (as should be obvious) worse performing than its performance mode. The reason the x1x wins in this comparison is twofold and one we already knew about: it is more powerful, and thus can push higher resolutions behind the supersampling and/or framerates.

Not rocket science, and not any issue with the "mode". The hardware itself is sucky and is just sucking on the same level we already read about when they evaluated this mode on 4k displays

The Pro is not half-assed at all. Just because a console that released a year later and is more expensive is more powerful does not make the previous console half-assed.

This reminds me of the PS2 era where Nintendo and Xbox fanboys were bragging about GC and Xbox being more powerful yet they were released almost 2 years after the PS2 and that was a time where technology advanced extremly fast.

It should have been there at launch as should HDR. Its like taking left over pizza out of the fridge, adding some mozzarella and pepperoni to it and microwaving it. Sure, after 30 seconds you now have a hot slice with extra cheese and pepperoni but it'll never be as good as if you just pulled a fresh slice of extra cheese and pepperoni out of pizzeria.

@cainetao11: HDR was there at launch, what are you even talking about. HDR was even added to regular PS4 systems unlike the OG xbone which got nothing.

But that wasn't really my point - my point was there's nothing inferior about this SSAA solution, it's just that the underlying hardware is weaker and hasn't been used right by devs in all "Pro optimised" games and that has a consistent impact on either 4k displays or 1080p SSAA. Nothing special about x1x supersampling, and it isn't immune to these concerns

No, that is not how things work.

Since Microsoft is a business and EA is a business, there are tons of considerations on both sides. One of them is that a potential purchase has to make sense financially. So sure they have a big money tank but they won't have that forever if they overspend on an acquisition where the payout doesn´t match.

Also, there is EA and it´s investors, it has to make sense for them as well.

I only speak for myself in life and know by the age of 45 life is completely subjective experience.

What good is the X? Well i do not want to play on PC, period. I do own one, had an army buddy tell me what to buy and had him build it in 2014 in anticipation of the Witcher 3. I have over 150 games on my Steam account but the bug never bit me as my friend said it would. I never developed a love for tweaking the PC or upgrading it. So games being on PC means diddly shyte to me.

Sony doesn't care about MP gaming. Shawn Layden basically said as much to Greg Miller at PSX. I'm not going to pay them $60/year for a shit network that goes down more than a $5 whore especially if they don't care to make anything compelling to play on it. I'll continue with Halo 5, Gears 4, PUBG and soon comes Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2 co op. My PS4 is for the few, I repeat few exclusives I want to play on that console. Just having a large list means shyte to me when I don't care for many of the games.

You did not ask if it was possible for MS to buy EA. You never asked what could be the inherent hurdles. You ask if they could afford EA. This corporation dwarfs EA. They could easily afford EA.
