"The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword isn't one of the most celebrated series entries - but its transition from Wii to Switch brings about a whole host of advantages (not just graphics related) that truly elevate the game, dramatically improving on the experience. Here's John with the full lowdown".

TBH, I had no interest in purchasing a Wii or this game at the time of it's release because I hated motion controls, but now that this game can be played without them and seeing this video, I'm pretty shocked that DF is basically saying this game feels more fresh now than it did a decade ago. Glad I'll experience it for the first time like this.

Also find the GS score a little odd given the extensive improvements. They are usually bang on with their reviews.

I'll get this since I like Zelda but not right now since I'm not dying to play this game.

Using the right stick to do what was once done with the wii controller has made things much more bearable. Even the flying is smoother IMO.

Based on the review from one review outlet?

I hate hate motion controls thought it was a stupid idea from day one when we first learned wii was going to have them thought it was a stupid pointless gimmic but yet I loved the motion controls in SS never understood the hate for them in this game at all. Really looking forward to replaying this only beat it once on wii and that was years ago sure I have forgotten a lot of it.

The bar was really low for the original game so anything is vastly improved. That said, I still won't waste money on it.

Physical controls ruin the game experience. Play in motion, this release is 9/10, play with the physical buttons, it’s a 7/10. This games gameplay was built for motion. They have ruined it.

Watched/read a lot of reviews and follow up on this game. My take away was that it is improved over the wii version, but it's traditional controls don't seem to be all that great, or at least folks comment on the complexity of them.

I dunno. For some reason skyward sword doesn't move the needle for me and I suspect it's because it was built around a wacky control scheme.

Am I missing out?

It's probably still a lot better than most games released today in the gameplay department and the music sounds sweet.

Looking forward to jumping in myself once I get caught up on my backlog.

Impressed by the details and amount of work. I’m wondering what other Wii games can be done like this.

I think I’ll give this a miss, I might as well keep the money under my bed until BOTW2 comes out.

I want Kid Icarus Uprising HD.

That game was amazing only held back by 3DS and it's controls.

I played it on the Wii. While I wish I had been able to play it without the stupid motion controls, the fact that I have already played it puts me in a position where I do not feel a compelling need to play this version of it, since it's still the same game.

No. It‘s not a good game. ESPECIALLY after playing BOTW.

All that work and it's still an ugly, unplayable mess, shame.
