Deviation Games reportedly laid of 90 employees

They are/were making a new AAA IP for Playstation. @Benjisales in tweets after this one said he believes 90 represents more than half their employees

Their co-founder left last year. I would guess this means the game has probably been cancelled

I had no idea what exactly they were making... I just remember them announcing the partnership a couple years ago on Keighley's Summer Game thingy.. did they ever release details on the game?

PlayStation is poorly running the developer studios and loose an other studio after pixelopus and sony japan. They have no games now they have no studios and no future.

Well if you sign up to make gaas games with a corporation that has no idea about gaas games, then they kind of signed their own death warrant really.

What is going on in Sony land lately? Announcing they bought one dev while quietly closing another. And now this.

My guess is they were way behind where they thought they would be and had to cut people to preserve the project.

Never heard of them and didn't know they were making a Playstation game.

Apparently the company was founded by a bunch of former COD developers. So, not too interested in what they are developing. However, it sucks to see people losing their jobs.

My guess is they were impressed by what some of their studios were producing so they bought them. It appears Deviation wasn't hitting the quality they wanted.

I hope this is a sign that Sony are slowly backing off from Live Service games. Sony should focus on their strengths, not... this.

They let go of the people they no longer needed. They would have just shut the studio down and not left a third of the employees unless they have further plans. This sounds like a possible buyout situation where the studio can be used as a group that helps with other games. Perhaps SONY wanted to get the price down so they could fill the spots internally. Why keep a third of the employees and not just close their doors? It seems as though something else is happening. Chances are we will hear about it soon either way.

Kind of tired of hearing about this already, unless someone cares to leak some gameplay of the game we never got and illustrating their hard work going down the shitter, or possibly a game we shouldn't feel bad about the publisher having no confidence in. Let us decide.

Sony seems to be pretty obsessive about quality at times. If I had to guess, they saw it, and thought releasing the game from their studio with their name on it would do more harm than good.

90 people is a big chunk of a studio for all but the very biggest developer houses.

Hope they all land on their feet. Being unemployed in this economy is a bad trip.
