Bungie has confirmed that Destiny 2 will not be using dedicated servers on either PC or Consoles and will instead most likely be reusing the same ole Peer 2 Peer networking system that Destiny 1 use.

Is this acceptable? Destiny makes Activision and Bungie hundreds of millions of dollars, yet they can't invest a tiny of bit of that into dedicated servers?

All that $$$$$ and they are going to give people Peer 2 Peer with a super low 10hz tick rate again?

Well they don't care. If people don't demand better in numbers, they will happily give you the cheapest quality of online gaming for you to play on.

Now where is that $30 for DLC.

Destiny is probably the best example of a developer putting in zero effort for maximum profit. Everything about Destiny "2" looks like an expansion for the first game.

Blizzard got shit for shipping Overwatch with 20tick servers which later got updated to 64(this is what csgo etc uses). P2P shooter... well its a console game so I guess all of this should have been expected

Yeah good luck Activision on PC market. Without dedicated servers Destiny on PC will flop as hell.

So its yet another game Activision puts minimal effort into all in the sake for profit. Gross.

Cant even do real servers? Piss off.

This is a game with three plus expansion packs planned.

This is not a game about providing people with a fun experience, it's a game to make as much money from people as possible.

Of course. They spend most of the game's budget on marketing.

Yeah but it was also console-only.

Don't consoles have automatic dedicated servers? I thought that was why they were so proud of their paid online bs.

Let me ask you a question. Would you prefer to pay a monthly fee to play Destiny 2?

I didn't realize Destiny 1 was P2P, I never had a Host Migration thing happen while playing, and I seem to remember it being on dedicated servers....there was no lag that I can remember when I was on planets in missions, and I doubt it's P2P because when I would be in a fire team I could see other fire teams nearby, so it must be on a server.

I don't know if this is just for PVP or PVE, but I would be surprised to learn if Destiny 1 was not on dedicated servers whatsoever. Either way, this is a bummer for me because P2P often has lag issues and for FPS games it's unacceptable unless you are running with a crew you know and you guys all have good connections. It's not that bad with PVE I would think but for PVP it sucks, it's inconsistent overall in my experiences in comparison to dedicated servers.

Anyways I was not planning on Playing D2 at launch, still haven't finished D1 expansion...just a little surprised to hear this.

Was gonna say the same.. :/

For example in the hubs, people join and leave constantly which means the P2P needs to jump around constantly and no way is it going to look smooth.

They had servers I'm sure.

Essentially removes this game from the competitive gaming discussion, at the very least. And I'd prefer to have them, undoubtedly, but I primarily play Destiny for co-op and PvE anyway, so the lack of light speed tick rate isn't necessarily going to hamper my experience. But connectivity with other players undoubtedly will be sub-optimal, regardless.

But I get it: without poor ass tick rate, what will happen to all the glitch memes?

It sucks, but at least PC players don't have to pay a 2nd time for P2P. ;)

I probably won't get the game till it's cheap anyway.

Lol, an MMO on peer to peer. I guess that's why the "awesome" PVP is only 4v4.

The social hub is probably hosted on servers but everything else is networked through P2P.

Peer 2 Peer is fine for PvE but for PvP, dedicated servers should be standard.

If this was the case they wouldn't bother putting Destiny on PC. On battle.net it's going to sell like hotcakes.

Maybe it wont be so terrible this time around.

No, its not a monthly payment game. None the less, it should have dedicated servers.

We have medium size indie developers running games on dedicated servers and we have a lot big budget games running on dedicated servers. But one of the most profitable game series in the market, and they choose to use P2P.

@metalslimenite: you can buy the taken king edition that comes with expansion 1 , 2 , and 3 for under $15. And rise of iron is $30. That's $45. No where near a monthly pay to play.

@metalslimenite: it's not really a rip off if people enjoy playing the game. $100 for 3 years is actually a good deal. Hell, the collectors edition with all 4 dlc's can be had for $40 right now.

Well, that's a game off my radar for good.

Joke's on me for even considering giving Bungie a chance with this one.

I guess having a full second delay between a shot and a kill is your definition of "just fine", but that's just a you thing.
