..... hm. Honestly, its pretty amazing when dev use the Oodle Kraken de/compression tech provided and dev have proven how superior it is compared to whatever available on any platform. Only fitgirl Nintendo does it better, according to some.. I hope next console by Sony, Nintendo, Valve or else could explore similar methods to save the valuable spaces especially considering those consoles pushing beyond 1080p.

Some comparisons

- Alan Wake Remastered

  • Xbox Series X/S ~ 38gb
  • PS5 ~ 29Gb

- Control ultimate edition

  • Xbox Series X/S ~ 43gb
  • PS5 ~ 25gb

- Subnautica & below zero expansion

  • Xbox Series X/S ~ 21gb
  • PS5 ~ 5gb

- RE Village

  • Xbox Series X/S ~ 35gb
  • PS5 ~ 27gb

And many others for example AC Valhalla, Tony Hawk, Immortal: Fenyx rising, Dirt 5 and etc. Not only that, tends to hold better fps too but I am sure its for a different reason. Quite an amazing tech and, everyone can use it as I am very sure Oodle is an independent company and licenses their products.

You told us the compression is smaller cause it has lower quality assets. Xbox is just way more powerful so has higher quality assets. Just reread your posts in the Nintendo is best at compression thread.

@sakaixx: O so Nintendo just has superior compression tech also. So that’s why Captain Toad on Switch added so much content and size was so much smaller than Wii U copy. So guys thread was right all along, y’all were just shat posting in his thread to troll him.

@Pedro: apparently Epic bought the company earlier this year. The guys behind the amazing tech is not independent anymore but probably a good idea to make the tech more widely used. Very interesting read too on how devs commented on what they achieved with PS5 version of FFVIIR. Higher 4k assets but able to keep the file sizes bit smaller on PS5 compared to PS4.

Why would Valve consider it? It's not like they are preventing or forcing anyone from doing anything. Oodle and all these other compression formats are available to use by anyone. It's on developers not using them on PC. None of those formats are exclusive to Sony or Sony had anything to do with their creation.

Mostly PR. What they meant was they licensed it and made it part of their dev kit. That's it. Neither Kraken nor Oodle requires any kind of dedicated hardware to function.

I get less value out of my PS5 storage than my XSX storage. I love that I can take my XSX storage cards with me like I do now to friends and family and pop it into their console and play all the games on them. I plan on having 3 of them filled with games to be mobile with. I have 2 now. My second one I got on sale for $168.00. The one I bought for my PS5 was $191.00 on Amazon for the WD Black SN850.

So your comment is true maybe for some, but not for others.

If true, would prove why Ratchet didn't need a 5.5Gbps SSD......or any console.

Maybe on PC where files are less compressed would you make use of those speeds

You said it's superior to whatever's available on any platform. The point is it's available on all platforms and it's devs who has a choice to use it or not. More specifically on PC, there's nothing stopping them from doing it.

@regnaston: pcback is for texture compression only. Xbox is ahead of ps5 when texture compression. They even said there using the same compression but there improving it over time. So when it comes to texture compression yes they improved it over last gen. Yes there compression will improve this gen but there just building on the same compression they have now. That compression works with windows and pc that is why they are just building apon the same compression.

@girlusocrazy: but when I am there we log in on mine, make it home console and they also sign in and they do earn achievements. We do split screen too on our accounts. None of us care about discs so we just share games digitally back and forth at our homes playing fully optimized. It’s slick.

There's no evidence that they only use it on PS5 unless you know the technical make up of every game in existence. Both these compression formats were available for a long time. RAD tools are part of gaming for decades and goes as far back as the 90s. Nothing PS or Sony specific here.

Th eonly reason you may hear about it more on PS5 is because of the obvious PR and marketing deals but also because it's part of the PS5 devkit so why not use it.

@pc_rocks: dev literally provided the evidence. The PS5 version as per dev testimony provide better compression tech. As you say the tech is available for all, but yet they only use it on PS5

@sakaixx: Seems even DF agrees. They called Metroid Dread a technical marvel that pushes Switch to the limit. And it’s only 4g. Nintendo compression is so good, using this program would increase their file size by 17%.
