Look at this gameplay video. Dark Souls 2 has superb gameplay and graphics. Forget about resolution, just look at the GRAPHICS of this game!! I would say the graphics even beat Uncharted 3 graphics!! The lighting, shadows, and textures are all awesome. The characters have substance to them. The game probably has very high polygon counts for a PS3/XBOX 360 game. Judging by this gameplay video, the game runs very smoothly as well. And of course, the gameplay is unmatched by any other Action RPG ever released.

Opinions?

Graphics look dated compared to games like Killzone SF or even The Witcher 2 maxed out, but that doesn't stop me to buy it day 1.

The gameplay vid is supper annoying though, watched almost 3 minutes of it, but then I couldn't take anymore. Why is that douche wearing a hat in his room and why is he jumping around campfire for THREE F*KING MINUTES?! Geez.

Dark Souls 2 is an absolute BEAST, no doubt about it. It makes Skyrim, Elder Scrolls Online, Witcher 2, and Witcher 3 look like Flappy Bird.

Another Thunder-opinion-intentionally-opposite-of-reality.

I can't help but feel given the HUGE success this company has had with the past souls games... that dark souls 2 looks incredible dated and lazy. to a similar level of CoD... exact same engine, barely looks different in production values... I understood their position with demon souls... and to a lesser extend dark souls 1...

Its literally a sequel in the least impressive way possible. I can't believe they used that "troll throwing an axe through the air at 0.5 miles per hour deflection gameplay" as some sort of PLUS... it looked awful and was cheap as hell.

Don't mistake my critism for hate, I can't bloody wait to play it. but still, my point stands.... seems very lazy on the production values front.

You are clueless.

Dark Souls 2 has a brand new graphics engine. Its graphics are a big improvement over the previous game.

I'm clueless? you realise those 2 links alone contradict each other?

And you also should be aware that a new version of an engine, is still classed as a new engine right? no I didn't think you did. everything about it screams "marginal upgrade" at best. they didn't even bother to enhance the u.i or any other elements. everything plays the same, you can see from the footage how everything interacts is IDENTICAL. it has had a very MINOR graphical upgrade.

Souls games aren't "hard", they only look hard the first time you play them and don't know what you're supposed to do. Only a handful of bosses are legitimately hard.

the game does look improved compared to dark souls. i never expected it to look amazing because of course - it's also a ps360 game.

but damn, just watching the gameplay. liked when he destroyed the window boardings in order to light up the room - very cool.

i have an xbox 360 but i'll probably just buy it once for pc. i refuse to get hyped enough to pre order anything.

The only thing that was ever graphically impressive about the Souls games were their amazing art style and surprisingly high res textures. That said, I can't wait for DS2; I just beat the first one and fucking loved it. Not the greatest game of all time though....that'd probably go to Super Mario World or Metroid Prime.

I think people just like the reward factor and secrets that make up the overall gameplay and world. The combat is quite slow, and the player's character is designed to have to follow through completely with each move before forming another one. Most of the fights i have been in revolve around holding my shield up and strafing. I know that there is more, but that is the safest way. I understand it is cool to not be able to slash with super fast strikes, but having to find variety through different weapons with 5 or 6 attack animations gets repetitive. A new game has to step up and give ups a combat system that is fluid and tactical without sacrificing variety in attacks and speed.

Yeah. The combat leaves a whole lot to be desired. The "everything bad that happens to you while playing is always your own fault" is true about just about every game ever made, too. I don't understand the "tough but fair" praise the games get. If anything, they are slightly less fair than most games because they rely heavily on memorizing locations where the monsters are waiting in ambush, and the game is punishing enough that it is difficult to recover from an ambush that you don't know is coming. Ninja Gaiden 2 caught a lot of criticism for being cheap in areas, but it is every bit as fair as the Souls games.

Dark Souls never puts you in an ambush that can outright kill you flat out. Any ambushes that happen that you can't predict are from really weak enemies, they can be a little cheap but they're not difficult enough to where you're totally screwed if you don't see it coming. Dark Souls keeps you on your toes and demands that you stay alert and know how to change tactics or know what to do in a split second. The game never flat out kills you without some sort of tactic to get around it and it's up to you as the player to learn it and improve. It's up to you to level up yourself and gear up accordingly or suffer the consequences of bad decisions

The only time Dark Souls is really cheap is when you have to dodge those dragonslayer arrows on the tiny ledge because they turn after being fired and kind of home in on you.

What? I didn't find dodging dragonlsayer arrows remotely difficult. The only thing I really found cheap about Dark Souls was deaths caused by the horrendous--and I mean fucking HORRENDOUS--framerate drops. The Centipede Demon is the perfect example--easiest boss you could imagine, but you'll still likely die a few times due to the framerate drops. Same thing with Seth; those damn crystals caused that fight to chug like crazy. Now that I think of it, the only bosses I had any real trouble with were the ones where your framerate would tank (Queelag, Centipede Demon, and Seth--although I never died on Seth).

Slower than most action games? Definately. Clunky? Not even close.

The combat is precise and rewards people with proper timing. If you start smashing the attacks and don't know when to dodge or deflect you're going to get your shit tossed.

There is a lot more to graphics than just resolution. For example, Metro Last Light at 720p is still going to look one billion times better than Pac-Man at 4K resolution. Many people on System Wars don't understand that graphics are a whole lot more than just resolution level.

Dark Souls 2 has very impressive graphics ---> Textures, Lighting, Shadows, Polygon Counts, etc are all very impressive.

Super Mario World and Metroid Prime? Seriously? They were good for their time, but they don't even compare to Dark Souls 2. Why not compare Pac-Man then too? Nostalgia is great and all but let's be real here, video games have come a very long way since Super Mario World and Metroid Prime. Comparing Mario and Metroid to Dark Souls 2 is like comparing a 1908 Ford Model T to a 2014 Rolls Royce Phantom. Just no comparison!! Dark Souls 2 is light years better!!
