Release Date: Sept 26, 2017 (PS4, Vita, Steam)Genre: Mystery AdventureDeveloper: Spike ChunsoftPublisher: NIS AmericaNumber of Players: 1 As the name suggests this is the third main game in the Danganronpa series, but this is the presumed start of a new arc for the series. The original arc revolved around the school Hope’s Peak Academy and is comprised of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (Vita, Steam, PS4), Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair (Vita, Steam, PS4), Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls (Vita, Steam, PS4), and Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak Academy (Anime). Also worth noting that Danganronpa 3 and Danganronpa V3 have nothing to do with each other.Danganronpa V3 is centered around a new school The Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juvenilesand is mainly meant to be self contained in a lot of respects. I personally have not looked into how much V3 references the past games, but from what I gather the game is self contained enough for a newcomer to follow. To get the full enjoyment out of the game though, it is recommended that you play the previous games. Apparently the anime is negligible (and polarizing), so if you are thinking about playing V3, I would suggest playing Danganronpa 1 and 2 because they are the core games and amazing. UDG is a spinoff of sorts and really should only be played if you are into the series. Welcome to a new world of Danganronpa, and prepare yourself for the biggest, most exhilarating episode yet. Set in a “psycho-cool” environment, a new cast of 16 characters find themselves kidnapped and imprisoned in a school. Inside, some will kill, some will die, and some will be punished. Reimagine what you thought high-stakes, fast-paced investigation was as you investigate twisted murder cases and condemn your new friends to death.A New Danganronpa Begins - Forget what you thought you knew about Danganronpa and join a completely new cast of Ultimates for a brand-new beginning.Murder Mysteries - In a world where everyone is trying to survive, nobody’s motivations are quite what they seem. Use your skills to solve each new murder or meet a gruesome end.Lie, Panic, Debate! - The world is shaped by our perception of it. Fast-paced trial scenes will require lies, quick wits, and logic to guide your classmates to the right conclusions.New Minigames - Between the madness of murdered peers and deadly trials, enjoy an abundance of brand-new minigames!-----------------------------Danganronpa is visual novel mystery in line with the Ace Attorney series, but much darker (similar in tone to Zero Escape). Like the other main series games, Danganronpa V3 takes a cast of gifted students and traps them within an closed environment, unable to contact the outside world. The students are confronted by the “Headmaster”, Monokuma, who is the facilitator of the Killing Game they are all forced to participate in.A trail beginsThe Killing game has many rules that vary from game to game, but the main premise is simple. If one student is able to kill another and get away with it, they alone will be allowed to leave the school while all the remaining students are punished. If the students are able to find the killer, only they will be punished and the other students will get to continue the killing game. To determine if the perpetrator has gotten away with the murder, there is a trail where everyone is allowed to discuss the crime, leading to a vote of who did it at the end of the trail. The Killer is caughtThe Killer gets away with it This gives the series distinct phases:Daily Life - Talk with the other students trapped with you and learn about their pasts. The main strength in this series is the well written characters and the progression as more characters are punished.Investigation - After a murder is committed, the students are given time to investigate. As the protagonist, you are able to look around the crime scene for evidence and talk with your fellow classmates to unravel the mystery behind the death. Class Trial - Once you have gathered all of the evidence, the class trail begins. It’s a real time debate where you use everything you have gathered to convince your classmates and find out who done it. Demo out now!
