Cyberpunk 2077 pre-orders are the most in China. PC is leading from the front. Witcher surpassed 50 million copies sold.

Cyberpunk 2077 has more pre-orders on PC than Consoles

No.1 Euro King CD Projekt made the badass trailer in Chinese. Not only the trailers, CDPR also announced they'll launch an official Chinese version of game along with the international version. CD Projekt Red even have a letter translate to Chinese to thanks their support for The Witcher 3.

This is just the start.

Witcher 1 + 2 were just under 20M as of the end of 2019. Witcher 3 is about 30M of that 50M number.

Looks like Western AAA game publishers might start following Hollywood's lead in targeting and catering to the Chinese market, which is inevitable given the huge size of the market.

P.S. The last reported number for TW3 was 28M, including expansion packs.

Makes sense really, Cyberpunk 2077 has that China City Skyscraper vibe going for if you think about it. I bet GoG has the most pre-orders then Steam and really, GoG is the best place to play Cyberpunk 2077.

Taking a quick look at the better pc releases...

Streets of Rage 4

Gears Tactics

Snowrunner

Xcom Chimera Squad

Resident Evil 3

Mount and Blade 2

Doom Eternal

Half Life Alyx

Wolcen Lords of Mayhem

Minecraft Dungeons

Halo 2 Anniversary

- Yeah, those pre-orders make perfect sense. I'd be pre-ordering Cyberpunk too if that's what I had to look forward to.

I was thinking about getting Cyberpunk 2077 directly from GoG because I want to support the developer, but I'm wondering if maybe I should get the PS5 version. My PC is now starting to look outdated next to these new consoles lol. Have only a GTX 980 TI.

Impressive that Cyberpunk remains one of the top Steam sellers considering it isn't even out yet.

You can also go to GoG any time of the day or night and Cyberpunk is the #1 bestseller.

They haven't even had their event yet either.

The standard "cyberpunk city" look (e.g. in cyberpunk classics like Blade Runner, Akira, Neuromancer, Ghost in the Shell, etc.) was originally modeled after Tokyo and Hong Kong in the '80s. And since then, modern Chinese cities like Beijing and Shanghai have evolved to have a similar appearance.

Something that China can be proud of.

That means China has a huge gamer market and they are looking to buy some games. Western people tend to be more cautious when pre-ording these days and China is currently is having a gaming revolution just like gaming in USA in the 80s.

Just saying, the city in the game almost kinda gives you the feel of China is almost a reason why pre-orders are on the rise. Gotta love inspirations :)

@nepu7supastar7: i like how you pulled that random list out of your ass. Not only is it actually full of good games, which doesn't help your point, but it's also at the same time ridiculously small, random, and underrepresentative. There are whole genres missing, for one thing. Still, if you don't play on the platform you can't be expected to know what games are on it. Happens a lot around here

I'm happy CD Projekt is getting massive pre-order support for this highly anticipated game. I've done my share of support by pre-ordering on GOG and the Deluxe Edition on PS4. With their DRM free policy, they deserve every penny from us gamers. Vote with your wallet guys.

Single-player games do sell, but slowly over time in contrast to the revenue that multi-player games can generate in a much shorter time span, and probably with a much smaller budget.

I think this is what EA wants to say, without saying it. In short: single-player games do not fit in EA's business model: high revenue in a short time.

CDP, the oldest Polish game distributor filed for bankruptcy. This has no impact on CD Projekt's operations. Before RED and GOG, CD Projekt was a game distributor. In 2014 the distribution branch was split from the original company and formed a separate entity, CDP, which went its own way.

Hopefully this won't mean if Chinese decide they want game censored last minute we'll see it delayed another couple months because CDPR will be worried about losing a significant chunk of the market. Maybe only real thing I see that could be cause for censorship might be the signature cyberpunk world where nation states deteriorate and fall to wayside while power consolidates around major industry, maybe any mention or even just the notion of Chinese government being supplanted by major industry would be enough to enforce a degree of censorship.

To me CD Projekt doesn't seem a likely candidate to screw over PC users.

But they did it with the The Witcher 3. They denied the game being downgraded months before launch and then on release they justified the downgrade by saying the game wouldn't exist without consoles. After the first year of sales PC became the best selling platform and a good amount of copies were bought from their own store.

I'm just saying CD Projekt has no excuse to pull another Witcher 3 on us with all that has happened. The Witcher 3 sales showed how well the game does on PC especially after the first year while console sales declined over time. Not even the addition of a Switch version was able to have all consoles combined outsell PC. A lot of PC gamers are willing to support them by buying directly from their store so even with PC sales being behind the PS4 in the first year they still made a lot of money from PC sales due to getting 100% of the money from several bought copies on GOG.

One third of Cyberpunk 2077's PC preorders are through GOG and now we learn that China has the most preorders overall. The game is also going to be officially released there so this guarantees that Cyberpunk 2077 will not only sell the most on PC at launch but significantly outsell the console versions too due to the Chinese playerbase. Cyberpunk 2077 became the instant best seller on Steam in China when preorders became available and the previous best seller right before it was Total War: Three Kingdoms which sold a million copies in its first week. That along with the long term sales on PC will easily make Cyberpunk 2077 one of the best selling PC games of all time.

So yeah if CD Projekt did downgrade Cyberpunk 2077 for console parity they better have been using these months to undo it and make it one hell of a showcase for ray traced graphics.

@nintendoboy16: Black Panther did well at the Chinese box office though. By "film critics", are you maybe referring to online user reviews? There were a bunch of Chinese online user reviews with racist/bigoted remarks similar to Western alt-right, but I'm not aware of these remarks coming from professional Chinese critics? Nor did it have a significant impact at the Chinese box office, where the movie still did well regardless.

While I would agree there is a lot of racism in China, and that the CCP is racist (e.g. their treatment of minorities), this doesn't have much of an impact on the Chinese box office, where Chinese moviegoers are surprisingly more open-minded and less xenophobic than US moviegoers. While most US moviegoers almost exclusively watch only Hollywood movies, Chinese moviegoers watch movies from across the world, including Chinese, Hollywood, Bollywood, Japanese, Anime, Arabic, Spanish, Thai, etc. Chinese moviegoers generally have more varied and diverse tastes than narrow-minded xenophobic US moviegoers.
