CYBERPUNK 2077 HAS NO GAME OVER SCREENS FOR FAILING A MISSION

"What is the stupidest thing that the player could do?". With this philosophy in mind, quests have been designed to allow all kinds of player behaviour, ensuring that the game never fails players for engaging in unconventional activities.

For example, Webber suggests that while protecting an important client, there is nothing stopping you from calling in at a restaurant for a burger. If the client dies while you’re getting your fill of food, then the game continues on. Just because you failed the job doesn’t mean you failed the game.

So they are making it casual and easy. remind me of prince of persia 2008 where you cant fall and elika save you every time. and people consider it to be successor of Deus Ex? the hardcore immersive sim!?? LOL.

Actually there is a game over screen if you die. You don't get a game over screen for NPCs dying. If someone died that you didn't want to die then reload and try again. Sounds like a good RPG mechanic to me.

@ghosts4ever: did you not read the quote?

They aren't taking away fail states - they're taking away GAME fail states in order to preserve openworld realism. You can absolutely fail your mission. As long as your player is alive, your world remains interactive.

so you wont have mission where alarm raise and you fail your mission for example.

only way to fail is you die which may would be impossible if your character is too overpowered.

Stick to Doom, Ghost, as this game seems to be too complicated for you.

Sounds like a good idea tbh.

This is different from Prince Of Persia "you don't die", bullshit. It doesn't mean you can't die.

-

This isn't a new concept though, lots of RPG's can have you fail and continue.

So, nothing new here, like... at all.

This isn't new and this has been done in the past by other games. This is supposed to be realism as it comes for a sci-fi premises.

Sounds like your typical branching-narrative RPG to me. Even Mass Effect has done something similar in a more limited way. As long as there are still story consequences for failing missions, which from what I've seen there are, this is actually good game design.

You're trying too hard.

@ghosts4ever: And how exactly is this concept so different from the original Deus Ex, where you could get a fail state and instead of having to reset you have to live with your **** up?

As long as I can still get trophies, awesome.

The worst thing about games like Fallout is getting locked out of a trophy because I accidentally killed someone and can’t complete a quest.

Actually, I hope I don’t get screwed over like in Witcher 3. Because I progressed too far without completing a couple side missions, those were locked out/instantly failed.

Stuff like that is infuriating.

Just stop Ghosts... give it a rest. You're becoming the laughing stock of these forums (and that's saying something).

I like it. Reminds me of Wing Commander. You fail a mission and make it out alive then the game keeps going and the story changes a bit because that mission was failed. Wingman died during the mission? Well you see his or her funeral and they are no longer with you but the fight goes on. One thing I don’t like about GTA games is having to restart the same side mission over and over until you do it exactly how the creators wanted you to. Too scripted that way.

That’s pretty standard fare for the game style Cyberpunk is trying to emulate.

For an excellent example of this in a modern RPG check out Torment: Tides of Numenera, fantastic game.
