Most PC gamers consider Crysis 2 a failure (on varying levels).

Apparently so do console gamers:

Crysis2(360)
1 237,989 4,897 128,827 371,713 371,713
2 87,937 N/A 82,313 170,250 541,963
3 N/A N/A 39,842 39,842 581,805

Crysis2(PS3)
1 120,853 10,576 107,226 238,655 238,655
2 37,274 N/A 74,247 111,521 350,176
3 N/A N/A 37,568 37,568 387,744

Homefront(360)
1 416,363 N/A 172,447 588,810 588,810
2 145,171 N/A 93,846 239,017 827,827
3 62,857 N/A 47,144 110,001 937,828
4 N/A N/A 26,219 26,219 964,047

Homefront(PS3)
1 136,607 N/A 103,828 240,435 240,435
2 45,472 N/A 62,789 108,261 348,696
3 22,123 N/A 36,393 58,516 407,212
4 N/A N/A 21,174 21,174 428,386

Homefront outsold Crysis 2.

My "console gamer buddy" who was incredibly hyped for Crysis 2 told me it "sucked" though it was "entertaining for awhile".

A few other hilarious decision by Crytek:

New engine that is supposed to "wow" us - release the proto-game on console? LOL

New multiplayer - CoD clone LOL

New game design - linear LOL

Console gamers only knew of Crysis because of PC gamers, Crytek basically told PC-gamers "cheerio-twas-good-while-it-lasted" and made a console-game-clone.

Result: Homefront outsold Crysis 2, PC gamers now laugh at Crytek, console gamers will likely only rent Crysis 3 (if it happens) and Crytek will be looked at skeptically (at least by the PC community)

Personally, I have to laugh at Crytek for their awful decision making. For further evidence of this supposition head to incrysis for some lolz.

Crysis 2 killed Crysis? Is two games a franchise?

DroidPhysX

Huh?

Let me break this down even easier: Crysis 2 damaged the "Crysis franchise"

Had they said "we're making a Crysis game for console" I don't think the reaction would have been as bad; as is PC gamers were expecting a PC game, and so were console gamers (albeit stripped down a bit). Instead we get Crysis 2, which effectively obliterated "trust" in Crytek.

And don't forget this:

Crytek:"I think you have to be 90 plus to make an impact in any genre now. The quality bar is so high and publishers and developers have put so much effort against high quality games."

Metacritic: 84, 85, 86

Franchises don't live or die based on which games outsell them. Homefront outselling Crysis 2 doesn't mean much.

Really? So a much anticipated game being outsold by a universally acclaimed "mediocre" shooter says nothing to you?

Other than the fact itself (that one game outsold another, regardless of their critical reception, which tends to happen a lot), not much.

While it wasn't as good as C1, I still enjoyed it. If it just had advanced physics I would have loved it. I was expecting C2 on PC to have better physics than the original. I died a little inside when I found out C2 would have worse physics and destruction than the original :(

Unless they renig on their statement that there will be more Crysis if it sells like BLOPs there won't be a 3...

I have a feeling there will be one anyway unless they try to go into some new IP or something.

I disagree. Crysis 2 is basically a beefed up version of Crysis: Warhead.

The final few hours of Crysis were linear. Crysis Warhead went fully linear. Crysis 2 kept that up. People act all surprised that Crysis 2 is linear, but SINCE THE FIRST CRYSIS Crytek have been building up to that.

If you liked Warhead you'll like Crysis 2. If not, you're not going to like Crysis 2. Simple as that.

Gameplay wise I enjoyed Crysis 2 just as much. Not to mention the improved story. Also vanilla Crysis 2 looks better than vanilla Crysis. If Crysis proves anything it's that mods can do miracles.

I too bit the hype bullet and bought it for 360...I was left VERY unimpressed after about 5 hours of singleplayer campaign. I traded it, got 40 bucks back since there was a promotion going on...I will rebuy it at 20 for PS3 for the trophy, thats about it.

I didnt like the gun combat, it felt very LOOSE, the stealth gameplay was hit or miss...and the resolution was too low for its own good. Maybe if I buy a new gaming laptop Ill buy it for PC...who knows.

Crysis 2 didn't kill the franchise, the first Crysis did with it's horrendous DX10 mode (Which had to be enable to play the game on very high settings), terrible plot, horrible voice acting and underpowered weapons and suit attacks. Sure it looked nice but considering we saw the same setting 3 times before Crysis (With the FarCry and FarCry Instincts games) it was fairly dissapointing IMO.

If anything I consider Crysis 2 an improvement, but PC fanboys can't accept the slightest change without blaming consoles.

Actually, as far as I'm aware, Homefront was a fairly anticipated game while Crysis 2 was often criticized. Hardly an "anticipated game" when PC gamers screamed at the top of their obnoxious lungs how consolization is ruining everything. Whereas Homefront ended up being a disappointment, Crysis 2 is a pleasant surprise.

Well according to the numbers the "disappointment" outsold the "anticipated game".

Was PC gamer rage the impetus for poor sales? Hopefully, if so Crytek might wake up to their fanbase and actually make a game for them.

Alternatively the console response was lackluster because the game is lackluster (but according to you guys, that isn't the case)

I saw all sorts of advertising for Crysis 2 over websites and on TV. I saw a couple adds for Homefront on Youtube and nothing at all for it on TV. Just because homefront had more advertising in your area doesn't mean that it had more advertising than Crysis 2 everywhere.

Homefront is pretty mediocre in nearly every way, while Crysis 2 is pretty fantastic in nearly every way.

And as far as the linearity goes in Crysis 2...http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/711199/crysis-2-linear-and-loving-it-sesslers-soapbox/(a good way to look at it I think)

I wouldn't say that, I liked warhead but didn't like C2 as much. I wasn't very impressed with them changing super speed to a normal sprint, I hated the infinite respawns in C2 and the A.I is some of the worse I've seen..

For some reason developers think console gamers are incapable of mastering more than 8 buttons ....

Not true of course.

On top of that the "gimping" is semi-forced by the inclusion of a controller as the primary control mechanism. (analog controllers are extremely bad for an FPS)

haberman13

I did play Crysis, check my backlog (It's on my sig), and yes I did play the game on DX10 but there was a HUGE performance hit so I ended up using CUDAATS to make the game run well with great graphics.

Why did you assume I never played Crysis? God your reading comprehension is awful.

Most PC gamers consider Crysis 2 a failure (on varying levels).

Apparently so do console gamers:

It honestly wasnt that highly anticipated. Sure, in our little SW world and the small enthusiast PC gamer community it may have been, but not enough to make a huge splash at retail.

Honestly, Homefront was marketed alot more as well (at least from what I saw)

If you liked Warhead you'll like Crysis 2. If not, you're not going to like Crysis 2. Simple as that.

I don't understand this part, I like the fact the suit powers are more quickly accessed whether it be controller or KB+M but what do you mean but semi-forcing it?

Although C2 was crealy worse than C1 , I still enjoyed its campaign. BUt saying C2 "killing[Crysis] franchise" is exaggeration.

Franchises don't live or die based on which games outsell them. Homefront outselling Crysis 2 doesn't mean much.

A game that sold 3 million copies not being highly anticipated? Crazy man!

Ideally each power would be mapped to a button, with a controller you have limited buttons so creative design is forced to get it working with less - hence the combination and removal of suit powers.

It *works* in Crysis 2, but the controller literally forced this design.

um...The reason crysis 2 failed is becasue Crysis 1 only had graphics...Console gamers are a little more discerning then PC gamers we actually get games to have fun...and not see if our rigs will fail to play the game so we have another reason to upgrade.

Dude, WTF are you talking about? If you haven't played the first Crysis than don't discuss it. What a blatant lie you just typed.
