Could Overwatch win game of the year

I know it is still early but I am curious? I've sunk a few hours into the game and am still loving it but when your story based games like Dishonored 2 and Mafia 3 hit the shelves will this game still be in that conversation or will the old adage of MP only games can't be game of the year continue.

I doubt it, as fun as the game is...is still pretty basic and barebones, it lacks so much content, so IMO no, it doesn't stand a chance specially not in the year Uncharted 4 was launched.

Even though it's massively overpriced, not as good quality or value wise as Team Fortress 2, has microtransactions and looks like a game from 2005, probably.

I doubt it. The game is very barebones and gets boring fast. There is nothing to work towards other than cosmetics and the loot system is a complete joke

Doubt that for several reasons.

I will likely be playing it at Game of the Year time, but it will go to something super high budget or some gripping emotional something or another.

I haven't played it, but I'm guessing Uncharted 4 will take it. It's the predictable choice.

Overwatch is a lot of fun though.

I was real high on this game until I played Titanfall again. Now I don't wan't to play Overwatch anymore... It's probably slipped to the middle of the pack in my top 10.

Based on gaming media and stupid forums like this? where games like Uncharted (already nobody cares about it) will get it for being "best movie like game"? no chance.

I think you misunderstand, It's popularity soars because it's a fucking meme.

It will win from certain outlets but the popular consensus may go to something else because it is so limited in scope. The execution is near perfect, but the ambition and the god awful progression system are drawbacks that will hamper its popular vote appeal.

Personally it's my current go-to MP game and in my top 5 games of the generation.

Highly doubt it, tho I was pleasantly surprised by Splatoon picking some awards, as generally mp games dont win shit. It's most likely Uncharted as that type seems to be what the industry is all about these days.

A MP game with 2 modes and 12 maps should never win Goty, it's easily shooter of the year but other than that no.

Doubt it. Video games media people tend to lean heavily towards single player experiences because they're stupid. Uncharted 4 and The Witcher 3 expansion have a much better shot at winning GOTY here

I've played quite a lot of it now. I definitely would say no. It's fun, but it doesn't stand out from other hero shooters I've played. Although, when I think about it, I don't recall many amazing games coming out this year so far, so I guess it is in the running for now.

No Uncharted 4 has it locked down now that Red Dead sequel is not dropping this year.

Plus it is a MP only shooter. Those never win.

Wouldn't be surprised if it didn't considering how many people b**** about the lack of content, which I find funny because I find myself still really addicted to the game and really engaged by it, whereas there have been games with way more content that I found myself losing interest in at a faster rate.

Thats because Content / Variety is not always quality, especially in competitive/multiplayer genres.

Look at Counter-Strike go ..... oh sure, there are some options... by 99% of the playerbase plays casual/competitive on detonation mode only..... and for gods sake 90% of the matches are Dust 2..... Biggest FPS on the market now.

The variety in Overwatch is in the classes. the game modes are irrelevant.

I'd be pretty shocked if Uncharted doesn't get it. Not that I think it's deserving (I haven't even played it yet), but it seems like a safe pick here at GS.

GS always goes for the obvious industry darling, or goes out of left field, there is no in between.

I'm sure some site will give it GOTY. But it will get best MP game but for Shooter its this or Doom. This site can give it GOTY for all we know.

A multiplayer only game won't win goty unless its got content comparable to a single player game, overwatch has nothing like that.
