Halo Infinite multiplayer is out in the wild - and cheating has already begun.

Players have reported coming across cheaters in 343's free-to-play competitive shooter, whose multiplayer is still flagged as being in beta.

Halo Infinite does not let you turn off cross-play between PC and Xbox. However, in ranked arena players can choose whether they want to play with mouse and keyboard players or controller players. While this potentially leads to longer matchmaking times, some console players are setting up their games to play with controller players only in a bid to make it less likely they'll run up against PC cheaters.

Of course, PC players can play with a controller on Halo Infinite. There is currently no way for Xbox players to avoid playing with PC players who use a controller.

"This is one of the reasons many console users choose to not play on PC," said redditor Meiie in a post on r/XboxSeriesX titled "Now that cheating in Halo is confirmed on PC, can we have to option to opt out of cross-play?"

"Besides the ease of playing on console, avoiding PC cheaters has been my biggest reason for not playing on PC. Destiny, Warzone, BF, Apex.. tons of cheaters on PC. Never run into any when playing on console and opting out of cross-play.

"This is really important and I think not getting this option now is gonna spiral pretty hard into us players, on console, having to deal with infestation of cheaters currently on PC."

We've been here before. Last year, we reported on how Call of Duty: Warzone console players were turning off crossplay to escape PC cheaters. Cheating went on to blight Warzone, leading to Activision to announce a new anti-cheat system to go live in-game soon.

343 and Microsoft will be desperate to avoid Halo Infinite suffering similar reputational damage. Game companies face an uphill battle in the fight against cheating, but the hope is Halo Infinite can mitigate cheating as much as possible in the months ahead.

Mentioned by numerous sites too. You can't disable crossplay even via settings on Xbox. It doesn't work. Otherwise it would be mentioned it does in that way

Doubt it's PC gamers. PC gamers tend to have millions of games in our STEAM libraries, on account of PC games being so much cheaper and all... Plus we all pirate everything, so have many, many better games to play instead of wasting time cheating on Halo (lol).

More likey it's Sony fiends. They all have gaming PCs too, you know... but they only play console games (for some reason), which cost an arm and a leg. Ergo, they've got nothing better to do, and it's most likely them.

This isn't a PC problem, it's a 343 problem. Get better at implementing anti-cheat systems.

Cross-play is the future.

Hermits are being destroyed in that game. Controller users with the aim assist are dominating so much that hermits have no other options but to cheat... or lose permanently. Since most PC gamers are simply not skilled enough to use a controller (they have a lot of trouble and cry on forums about it), they're hardstuck on mouse/kb, and that's not looking pretty for them.

@hardwenzen: what aim assist?? There is no aim assist from what I can tell and ive played maybe 20 multi-player matches so far. I had to manually aim in all those matches.

I did get my ass kicked but I didn't feel like there was any cheating involved either, just a bunch of skilled players.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is happening though, a lot of PC gamers have no life. These cheats always show up.

This is why all games should have self-hosted servers which can be moderated by the community.

You could still have a hundreds of people in a discord or something. Pretty easy to figure out who is cheating and ban them from the server.

I am not a Halo fan personally but IMO regarding cheating they need to do perma bans on people who do that crap (regardless of the game)

Also game is trash, don't have full screen option, don't have dlss or RT. runs like shit 70 fps at 3440x1440 on a 3080. and shooting a enemy is so bad in this game, that u need to shoot a entire clip into a enemy just to get there shield off.

Also visually it looks like a PS3 game, the tree's grass nothing moves or reacts in this game, no destruction, small corridor area's. What year is this.

But it makes all sense when u realize its builded for the most powerful console which basically means worse then budget hardware on PC.

What? Aim assist is strong af on the controller. From what i am hearing, the global accuracy on the controller playlist is higher than the keyboard one. Its so much easier to track and stick to the head when using the BR. There's a lot of videos about this on youtube btw.

Obviously PC users shouldn't cheat, but obviously people shouldn't murder or steal or hurt eachother, too. Yet here we are, dealing with it; we catch some, others get away with it.

In the 21 hours I have in the MP I don't think I've come across a single cheater.

Iv encountered cheaters in MP before on PC but its nowhere near as bad as console gamers make it out to be, not even close. Most of the time its just a sore looser screaming "cheater!" when they get spanked by a better player.

I kind of expected this to happen, but I remember mentioning how I made comments on how cross-platform multiplayer would really only work on 2D fighting games and co-op games.

I wonder how bad its gonna be in BF2042 in a month from now.

LMAO now lems doesn't want cross play, but they were bashing Sony couple years back, because Sony predicted that this would happen.

I’ve played a ton of hours so far and I don’t think I’ve come across any cheaters yet myself. So far though I’ve only played 10 of the Ranked Match games to get my first ranking. The vast majority of other games have been Big Team Battle and the recent Fiesta matches. Cheaters probably mostly would play in the Ranked Matches I would assume.

It's all sides complaining about different inputs. PC players complain about aim assist while controller players complain about PC hacks. Honestly though, I still like cross play because of the diverse amount of people you can meet and playing with friends/siblings on different platforms. I really don't care about cheaters and aim assist and advantages on different platforms.

I still think that cross play is a very beneficial and great feature to have in games. There’s a whole slew of different types and genres of games where controller input types would necessarily have a big impact between players.

Noobs always scream “cheater” when they get owned. PC gamers are just naturally better players. Get gud.
