Poll Console owners, is it time to build a PC? (79 votes)

Yes, nearly all the games from Sony and Microsoft are coming to PC 56%
No, Console is still the way to go. 44%

With so many games from Sony and Microsoft coming to PC, is now a better time than ever to switch from console to PC.

I owned a gaming PC well before console (Unreal Tournament clan) and I've changed my mind on next gen. Assuming all the game are coming to Gamepass on PC and Xbox, I'm going to build a PC and skip consoles at least in the beginning.

Non PC owners do you think its time?

No, it's already proven that trying to build a PC with the same hardware as PS5 will cost at least double.

Doubt Sony will let their crown jewels (Naughty Dog, SSM) release on PC.

I just think PS is super convenient. Pay $500 or whatever and then you are set for rest of the gen. Easy to set up next to the TV. Not a worry in the world.

So no, I won’t.

PC and PS5 is the magic combination as others have said. Throw in a Switch if you want to play Nintendo exclusives or just have something for on the move.

I wouldn't build a PC at the moment though, there actually couldn't be a worse time to consider it. Wait a few months till the new GPU's come out and see where everything stands in terms of price. Current high end cards will come down in price too if you have an eye on one already.

It was always time to build a PC ;-)

Now it's just less of a time to bother buying a console in addition

I wish I could say "Play games on whatever you want"

...but Sony and Nintendo don't want to play nice.

PC is still your best bet for getting the most games on one platform.

That's really hard to say now that Nvidia is discontinuing RTX 20XX series. Some of its prices have increase and no one knows for sure if they'll be a price drop...mainly on those high-end like 2080Ti.

My biggest question is PS5 vs Series X but AMD vs Nvidia.

I'm really liking DLSS. But I don't want to give up freesync either.

Honestly if you're looking at cards like the 2080Ti that's even more reason to wait and see what the new cards bring for the price. 2080Ti won't hit 4K 60fps on some games and it's a lot of money to pay for a card that isn't quite there. You'd be better off getting a cheaper card that guarantees 1440p and upgrading later when the new cards drop in price.

I'll be buying whatever Nvidia come up with that guarantees 4k. It won't be cheap but I haven't spent money on PC in a while so I'm going to go nuts.

Nvidia should be revealing the RTX 30XXlaunch series next month since they ended production of RTX 20XX series this month. AMD plans on releasing Big Navi before next gen consoles so a August reveal and September release is likely for AMD as well so Nvidia won't be let themselves be behind AMD have similar reveal and launch dates. The RTX 20XX was revealed in August and released in September. Nvidia didn't reveal their Ampere Geforce lineup at GTC so they'll probably do it at gamescom.

Even though I'm disappointed in both new consoles, I'll never build or play on PC. It's just not an eco system I'm interested in. I have hundreds of console and handheld games that I haven't beaten yet, and I'll get Series X and PS5 and what ever new system Nintendo puts out.

I just don't care about gaming on PC, or owning a big clunky rig. Laptops and tablets are the only kind of PC I'll ever own, and they won't be for gaming. I dislike Steam and keyboard controls. I don't like buying or upgrading parts for PC, and don't like most typical PC genres.

Just not happening.

Value wise the consoles have it no doubt.

I'd want as good if not better than series X so may cost me some. Hoping not massive amounts by the end of the year.

I have a switch so think I'm more covered with PC and Switch than PS5.

@briguyb13: No need to stress it on PC. PC gaming isn't for everyone after all. If you enjoy gaming on consoles that's totally okay. PC gamers do respect that.

I'm more than hoping that 3070Ti is legit and for a fair price, its something It'll last me just gaming in 1440p/144Hz and want to be ready for Cyberpunk 2077. Nvidia had plans for Computex 2020 before it got cancelled for good, Gamescom 2020 is all we can hope for.

yeah worst time to build a pc right now, those new consoles are behemoths. You just can't justify the price of pc parts right now.

Hey! You can have your preferences, but don't call this cute, tiny PC clunky! I love small form factor cases.

Also the notion of PC having 'typical genres' is a bit outdated. 99.9% of all games in the world run on PC and represent 100% of all the genres. Plus you get way more control options than you do on console. Also GOG > Steam.

As long as you are enjoying games that's all that matters.

So I assume you will also not support the companies that actively make the industry a bad place like:

  • Activision/Bliz
  • EA
  • Ubisoft

You're a logical person, right?

MS has been the driving force for more consumer-friendly trends in the industry. Play-Anywhere, Cross-play, cross-save, value subscription services. Even if you don't like the games or hardware they make, you can't deny they have had a positive influence on the wider industry in the past 2-3 years.

Don't get me wrong. MS def has an ulterior motive. As far as I can tell it's advertising info. ALL major corps collect and trade in advertising data. It's too lucrative not to. It subsidizes consumer products. It's why you can afford a console and a TV.

You don't support MS until you install Windows. Buying PC parts doesn't support MS in any way if you are not buying their software.

Won't you join me in some Linux gaming? It's waaaay more accessible than you think.

I have no desire to build a gaming PC. Seems much more convenient to buy a console, hook it up to my TV, leave it in the same place for 6-7 years and then buy again next gen. I'd rather use my computer in the home office for computer stuff.

If gaming was my life and I cared about resolutions and frame rates and all that stuff then maybe things would be different. Who knows. There's definitely a place for gaming pcs but there's a place for consoles. But it's not fun to admit that because then we don't get to spend years and years arguing about it in the same forum.

+1 never pay more than $5 for a Win 10 Pro key. (OEM key tied to your mobo)

They make their money in collecting your info and selling it to advertisers.

I already built a gaming PC and love gaming on it. I am more in the should I consider getting a console as well just for exclusives? I will always prefer playing on PC, but am having a hard time deciding if I should have both.

I'm the official PC Gaming King of this site and even I'll tell you now is a bad time, which is rare mind you. It's that weird twilight hour where it's simply not the best idea. This is due to next gen consoles and new tech releasing soon. Wait for the new Nvidia Cards and AMD Processors in Fall/Winter.

This might be a troll thread because he knows this is one of those times where PC won't get it's typical land-slide votes, even from PC gamers.

@SolidGame_basic said:

Not entirely true. But you should wait a little while and then just build something twice as powerful in early 2021. And then that gap only gets bigger each year after. Most of the gen you suffer.

No use in playing the substantially worst version of games again for 8 years, like with PS4. Lmao garbage gaming.

Yeah for gamers who enjoy all games I definitely agree, but PC started playing the roles of consoles last gen (PS4 imo), making consoles more redundant save for exclusives and some features only recently.

Imo.

PC/Playstation is my go to every gen. Playstation for exclusives and friends, and PC for everything else. If Xbox ever does release a game I have to play, you can now get it on PC with all the mods you want with the input device you want to play it with.

PC is where it's at, imo. I lost a lot of interest in primarily gaming on consoles the past 2 gens. It's really been more of the same tbh. Seems like they only have like like 2 or 3 must play exclusive gems a gen, and the rest are usually style over substance, or overrated. Honestly, the Switch is the most interesting console out of all of them. I think they were really on to something compelling making it a hybrid. But the lack of raw power & Nintendo being Nintendo screws it.

Anyway, if you primarily prefer console's, that's okay.

Even still, I'd wait until the new gpu's/cpu's drop before pulling the trigger on whatever. That's what I'm doing before I upgrade.

No need a ''build a pc'' there's a million custom computer companies out there these days and will only charge u like 50-70 dollars more than it would cost to build it yourself plus you get a warranty , hell sometimes it's cheaper just getting a prebuilt it all depends.

@tdkmillsy:

I don't think there's anything that will make me go to pc only. I do see the advantages of having one but not for all your gaming needs.

Highly disagree. It's never cheaper getting a pre built and they're almost always poorly built. Building a PC is easy anyways, no need to have someone charge you a premium to do it.
