Here are a list of completion rates for a selection of games. Notice a trend. 😎 What conclusions can be drawn from this information? This information was derived from Trophies and Achievements.

I didn't reference information from either of those platforms. This is just based on Xbox and PlayStation. As noted in the OP, Trophies and Achievements.

The game being touted as the ultimate must-have for PS and plays itself a lot is completed the most. Makes sense.

It tells me that a large percentage of gamers have an ADHD personality problem and can't finish single player games. It's probably why there's been a push the last two gens to move more towards online competitive trash.

Interesting trend. I reckon that would reinforce development of further 3rd party action/narrative types of games.

I don't think this is a new problem though. Going back a couple (or even a few) decades, most the RPG titles out there and a lot of the third person action stuff I got close to the end but never completed either. The problem with most games is combat stays the same. You get a pattern down and it becomes just going through the motion. There's always this push to add so many hours of content to a game and everyone wants the most but sometimes, just sometimes it's best for a game to be shorter and to end gracefully than to drag on until it becomes boring.

It's hard to make definitive conclusions. Which titles were free pack-ins , and how many were there ? Which titles were on PS+, GwG , Gamepass , etc? When and for how long?

For example , Detroit Become Human had a very high completion rate after a year ... but when they put it on PS+, the numbers decreased noticeably.

What I notice: People need to play more Bloodborne

It's so good and it gets much easier after you get some levels and gear.

I never complete any Souls type of game. There are so many great games out there to waste my time fighting the same enemies on the same level for 4 hours straight before progressing to the next area.

No one can draw any definitive conclusions because there is not enough information, starting with we don't even know what completion statistics are used. Some games are harder. Some games have all sorts of side mission tack ons, some gamers only want to play the MP and don't care about SP, some games play themselves, etc.

What does completion means in this instance: Is it more like finishing the main story/campaign or doing every last side mission/collect every single artifacts etc etc. (the stupid grid)?

The one game I have probably played to completion the most often was probably Star Fox 64. Why do you think it was? Because it was the best story of all time? Nah, it was just very short.

Completion rate is about the most worthless statistic to measure quality that there is.

But it should be no surprise high completion rates are shared by games that focus extremely hard on having a stronger one-and-done experience.

@Nike_Air: This. PS+ and gamepass titles are going to have a much lower completion rate. Not only that, but completion rate depends on the amount of side trophies/achievements that you don't earn by simply finishing then game.

I understand people not finishing FFXV or ME Andromeda ... but why people would not finish a game like Doom ??? game is literally murdering demonic spawns for like 6 hours ... what's not to love.

@pyro1245: Before being given away on PS+, Bloodborne used to have one of the highest platinum rates I've ever seen for a AAA title. It was something like 30%, which means that around 1/3 of players 100%'d the game.

You can draw literally no conclusions from a list of achievement/ trophy completion %s. You can completely finish a game and only have 30% of achievements. In some cases you can get all the single player achievements and just avoid all multiplayer, and still considered the game complete or fulfilling.

Not enough info is given in the OP to draw any conclusions.

I highly doubt anything has over a 50% completion rate unless it's sole reason for existing is as easy trophies and achievements, or is an easy title people farm them. That being said people who have accounts in this service likely care more about completion that the rest as the service is designed to help users get their achievement trophies with community support and guides.

I figure the more popular a game is the more likely that is to drop, also including games that are free or subscription service offerings, PS Plus, GwG, Game Pass, PS Now.

Not surprising to see something like Bloodborne has a lower completion rate as the game (not to say anything about quality) isn't for everyone, and definitely too long I assume for the seasoned achievement and trophy hunters who probably weigh what they can earn versus the time invested.

Years ago the ESA said something like 10-20% of people who get a game ever complete them. Right now I am playing GTA V version made for XB1, finally, played PS3 version 7th gen so wasn't in rush to play it again despite buying it again. And like half way through the game story achievements start dropping bellow 20% completed for total tracked user stats for the platform.

if Titanfall 2's number is referring to the singleplayer thats really surprising.

it was a great, well paced 5-hour romp. who isn't seeing that through?

Misleading post is misleading.

Some of these games require replaying the game on different difficulties to get certain trophies and achievements. It's also difficult to compare an action adventure game like Last of Us to a shooter like Halo.

If you ask me, this shows nothing.

Games with good story and straight forward or easy gameplay are more likely to be completed. However, that list is half ass as it is a very small selection of games.

Ah, this are 100% stats? My experience with Sony games is that you can almost accidentally 100% them. TLOU2 is an impressive % though, I think you have to play it a second time to achieve platinum, or at the very least it's difficult to do it at your firm run.

The completion is based on finishing the main story achievement\trophy. This is not about quality of a game. I am not sure why some are responding to this as if it is. I think it is interesting to know how many gamers actually finish the main campaign.

No surprise there, sometimes when I get an achievement on Steam for clearing out an early level I can see a pretty low percentage of those who own the game didn't get it and probably didn't even bother to start it.

People keep buying games and not play them, I have a cousin who's guilty of this and for a time I sorta was as well. Cleared pretty much all of my backlog last year and have "cleansed" myself of this gamer sin. 😅

@Pedro: Can you provide the link as i would like to see where this information is coming from.

All this shows is that Sony's games are easy to finish, and we already knew this as they almost play themselves lol.

If you believe that systems that track players progression in a game is a whole lot of nothing then more power to you but, it seems more like you don't like the results of that data. 😎 After all, the nature of the thread is clearly stated in the title.

Yeah it can be kind of crazy how few people sometimes finish playing through games. It’s even more baffling how sometimes even the very first and easiest achievements/trophies can seem kind of low by comparison.

You would be envious of my completion %, and basing it off of an achievement/trophy is dumb as not all games give you one for finishing a game, your thread is dumb, and you should feel dumb for posting it.

As for liking the results, it goes to show how Sony's games are easy movie games for casuals, and you're playing them but that's not surprising, what's not to like 🤣🤣🤣

People like engaging stories and interesting characters even in games despite some people saying otherwise.
