Competitive CoD no longer on XBox

Competitive Call of Duty moves to Playstation 4 starting with Black Ops 3

Call of Duty eSports, in official capacities, has been played exclusively on Microsoft consoles starting with the Xbox 360 last generation. This is mainly due to Activision’s DLC and marketing deal with Microsoft which expired this year. Sony revealed at their E3 conference in June that with the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Activision will be partnering up with Sony for future Call of Duty content and marketing.

Till now many CODCompetitive fans were wondering on which console Black Ops 3 eSports tournaments will be played on as the partnership announcement didn’t talk about anything related to the topic. At today’s Black Ops 3 eSports event at Gamescom, Black Ops 3′s Game Design Director revealed that future events will indeed be played on the Playstation 4.

Below is the exact quote:

PlayStation is the new home of Call of Duty eSports.

Time for all Competitive Call of Duty players to get used to the new controllers, eh?

Ehhh, this really doesn't matter, Call of Duty has too much of a brand association with Xbox at this point, it'll take years to reverse that, and by then, who even knows if Call of Duty will be relevant.

Microsoft did the right thing in dropping this deal, they still get the brand association, without actually paying a dime.

Make sense to have it now on current gen 8 console leader PS4. Biggest install base + most powerful hardware make this an easy decision for the biggest FPS franchise.

3 of my buddies are pissed. They bought the X1 because they got the cod map packs early. It's the only game they really play (except one of them is a Forza fan too) and they are really upset that MS didn't extend the deal to keep it timed exclusive or at least at the same time. I personally don't care either way, but there are some Xbox fans that are upset by the loss of the cod and MS partnership. Both of them are talking about trading in their X1s for a PS4 and I'm trying to explain that there are more good games out there than just cod.

Don't really care and haven't really cared for CoD in quite some time. I got last years version cause the multiplayer reminded of Titanfall which I love but even with them copying Titanfall, I still got bored of the multiplayer quick. Before then haven't bought a CoD in 3 years and most likely it will be another 3 years before I buy another one. Not interested in this years CoD with this jammed pack holiday coming up, but I guess for CoD lovers, this can be a big deal, I guess.

So this is a win for the 6 tournaments a year? Im sure more people are pissed about having to move to the PS4 instead. When you game on this level and then have to make a move to a hunk of shit with a downgraded controller, I would be pissed too.

Was hoping for a thread about the cloud...but I guess that can't happen after what was shown. This will have to do, I suppose.

I've seen it too many times for it to be funny. I guess I'm not easily amused. Comes once you get past being 5 years old.

This doesn't make sense because COD would still release on Xbox one. And probably in NA, still have more players on it.

I would've cared , if i cared for online FPS games or even FPS games in general or online games in general.

COD sales are decreasing. COD should be dead in the next 4 or 5 years...

Trust me I know, but they are so mad that there are people that will be playing the zombie maps a month before them. Like I said, I could care less, but they are truly mad about it. They feel MS should've worked out a deal to keep it how it was because they expect to get the maps early like they always did before. When they saw that at E3, my messages through the Xbox Smartglass app started going wild with their rants. I had to stop playing with them because of their attitude towards the whole situation. Thing is, they aren't even good at the multiplayer and they mainly play zombies. I've tried to get them to try Halo, Gears, Battlefield, and all they want to play is CoD zombies. Oh well, hopefully they'll get over it.

Cool. I wont miss them. I haven't bought a COD game at new retail since MW3? I am not even sure to be honest. I'll be enjoying Halo 5, QB, Recore, Sea of Thieves, Scalebound, Horizon, Uncharted 4. But yeah TC, your Console choice is teh bestest!!!!

I've not touched a COD game since Blops and MW3 were pure shit that pandered to the MP crowd and gave the finger to those that played it for the SP.

Actually there's a lot of pro players kinda pissed off about this and the SFV thing. What's weird is how Sony fans bash MS for Rise of the Tomb Raider, but are all cheering for Sony buying exclusivity deals with these two games.

It kinda sucks but I just look at it as Sony and MS are trading places this gen. MS is going to focus on first party stuff and bring some quality games and features, Sony is going to ride 3rd parties and exclusivity deals.

I suggest a new nickname since dudebros now have a new home.

Last time I bought a COD game was black ops on PS3. Now that they have gone all Mech on us, I'll stick to Titanfall, Battlefront, and Halo.

Wait didn't cows celebrate they weren't the bro console, but now they're cheering this? The herd has me so confused ...

Give those "pros" a mouse and keyboard and throw them on the PC with just some average players and watch the hate, rage, and tears.
