I managed to connect my vr pc through a 10m hdmi cable (3,5 feet) and I'm looking for a single player shooter with some decent graphics (normally I play on the original xboxone lolz).

I'm looking for something that's a bit of an immersive adventure, maybe a bit of sneaking as well. Serious sam is not the game i'm looking for , and not any constant set pieces/triggered mass events or enemies respawning in your face crap either. It would be nice to have some gore as well.

Now I have been looking around and for the love of god, these games are apparently extinct, at least the ones from this gen.

Games like this I really liked , deux ex, wolfenstein 1 and the new order, nolf series, crysis 1 (2 wasn't all too bad either) , halflife series, bioshock 1, far cry 1 & 2, soldier of fortune, cod world at war. F.E.A.R.

no is it any good? i haven't played 4 either btw, but don't they have that crazy respawn times of enemies.

Well tbh I did kinda like 3 as well, I just gave up on it because I though it would come in vr.

Metro, though they are more for atmosphere than mechanics.

PREY is similar, but more in line with Deus Ex/Bioshock.

Also, no DOOM on your list? Start there if you haven’t.

hmm, I liked doom 3 though, is it anything like that?

isn't prey an old ass game?

I played the first metro, I wasn't bad, but I got stuck with a gas mask all of sudden.

Titanfall 2 is the most criminally undervalued FPS going. Not gory, but a brilliant campaign nonetheless.

@commander: The newest DOOM games (2016 and Eternal) are frantic adrenaline binges, but they may be similar to Serious Sam in that way. But they are far better.

PREY (2017) is a reboot of a franchise that started in...2009? I can’t recall but both of them are worth a look, though the former is Xbox 360 only, I believe.

yeah doom is not for me, I already looked at it, doom 3 was different. Prey looks good tho but what really interested me is that metro exodus, it looks a lot different than the first one.

@commander: best FPS on the market imo, and no never expirenced respawning enemies as an issue as it’s only happen offscreen ie wouldn’t happen in the middle of combat or anything like that

Halo master chief collection is on PC now if you haven’t played any of those. Wolfenstein new colossus is another good game. Wolfenstein Old Blood. If you like old school multiplayer then Quake Champions is good. FarCry 3, 4, and 5 are pretty good too. Titanfall 2 has a good single player campaign.

These are the best ones I played in recent years:

  • Dying Light (it does get into shooting more the further along)
  • Metro: Exodus
  • Wolfenstein The new colossus (have you played the old blood yet?)
  • DOOM
  • COJ: Gunslinger
  • Halo MCC
  • Far Cries (I still need to check out New Dawn)
  • Titanfall 2
  • Get to the orange Door
  • Wrath: Aeon of Ruin
  • Maximum Action
  • Prey
  • Dishonored (ok, this one really isn't a shooter, but it's immersive as hell)

  • Doom
  • Doom Eternal
  • Black Mesa
  • Metro trilogy
  • Prey
  • Titanfall 2
  • COJ Gunslinger
  • Shadow warrior 2013

Go select them, play them. they are some of the best SP FPS titles as of recent years. otherwise Half life, STALKER, FEAR are classic masterpieces

I started master chief, even with the graphics update teh gameplay is still a bit stale imo, I liked this game in the past, but that's 20 years ago lol. haven't tried any of the newer ones though.

@commander: Jump straight into Halo 3 and Reach lol.

Halo 1 ce can be a bit stale, yes. But Halo 3 and Reach still feel modern.

TimeShift and Singularity, both have mechanics like slowing down time/reversing it in different ways... though singularity isn't just about slowing down/reversing time... and they are literally decent but not what you'd say the greatest fps ever made and are fairly obscure and you may not have played them.

Each are over 10 years old also so there mimimum cutscenes to develop story which i find good and keeps you into the gameplay instead, though Singularity likely beats TimeShift in plot.

Also Halo TMCC is a must play for the higher framerate over the console versions.

they are both good games and I have both played them but I'm looking for something a bit more recent

as for halo, even the newer editions i probably won't like very much because I'm looking for a more mature shooter.

you gave Prey second chance and you like it (credit goes to me) before that you hated it, now give Doom and Doom Eternal second chance, think of it as spritual successor and you will like them second time.

It drones on a bit at first and was hard to get into. I almost put it down again the second time but I pushed through the first hour or so and in the end I really loved it and its one of my favourite FPS in a long time. This happened to me with FFVII back in the day too, I didnt like that game at all when I first played it, thought it was extremely boring. But after forcing myself to play through the first couple of hours (i probably had nothing else ot play at the time) it ended up being my second favourite game ever. On the flip side I tried to like Dark Souls multiple times and just cant see the appeal and I have tried Doom and Doom Eternal a couple of times, I can see why some people might like them but those games are not for me.

@commander: I can understand that. The halo games are pretty old so the gameplay would reflect those times. Still check out the wolfenstein games I mentioned or the others as well. I think those would suit your needs.

@sirk1264: @R4gn4r0k:I have chosen for wf II: the new colossus and also resident evil 2 remake (allthough that isn't an fps, this looks too good to be true, i played the original back in the day when it released)

I will play the old blood as well but since it's a bit older and I already played the new order, I thought i might as well go for the sequel first, since it would at least be a bit better graphics.

I know it isn't a graphics king, but there isn't really anything interesting out there for me (apart from terminator resistance then , that's the next one on my list, but it isn't exactly a graphics king either)

I really considered metro exodus because of the graphics but I never really was into metro/stalker series, so maybe on a sale later on.

Either way, seems like the single player fps didn't get a lot of love this gen, but I got good hopes for the colossus , I really loved the new order, and return to castle wolfenstein from 2001 as well.

@commander: Have you also considered Dishonored?

It's stealth, a very immersive world and there is gore too :D

Not an FPS by definition, but you can pretty much play any way that you want.

I wasn't really a big fan of the first one, don't get me wrong it's not a bad game, but the lore doesn't really convince me. 1800 ish style have always been a bit of hit and miss for me. Kinda what bothered me with bloodborne as well (allthough I would give that game a 10/10 either way)

Yeah, definitely check out Prey. The 2017 game is awesome. Pretty much what Bioshock was supposed to be (a modern System Shock). The 2007 Prey is also a fantastic game, but completely different, in just about every way. It's more of a Quake clone. It is on PC, but it might be hard to track down a copy. Last I checked, I couldn't find it on Steam, or any other digital stores. I keep it installed at all times, off of my old hard copy.

Ion Fury. A NEW game based on a modern Build Engine (which brought us Duke Nukem and Shadow Warrior).

And for classics: I recommend XIII.

yeah I already started yesterday, I feel kinda silly thinking so long about, it's a superb game. I guess I was kinda preoccupied withopen world and stuff, and a more demanding game, but the game looks really nice and just plays very nice.

I considered far cry 5 as well, but I would already see myself getting bored with that, even with the beautifull open world.
