Call of Duty: WWII appears to be one of these games and its uses this technique to reach its target of native 4K on Xbox One X but just like the PS4 Pro, it uses dynamic resolution scaling with the game. The difference here is that the PS4 Pro verison of the game never manages to hit 4K while the Xbox One X version can reach this target. This was confirmed in an analyze by VG Tech.

Even if we compare the lowest point of the resolution, the PS4 Pro version can hit 960×2160 on the low end and 2640×2160 on the high-end of the resolution, compared to the Xbox One X, which has a resolution ranging from 1920×2160 to 3840×2160, and it is already a massive leap while maintaining a steady frame rate.

The difference between the PS4 Pro and Xbox One is already big enough, but if we go with the Xbox One comparison, it is like a generation difference for users. The Xbox One version also uses dynamic scaling but peaks out at 900p which seems rather ridiculous next to the 4K target for Xbox One X. The game also offers better frame rate on the Xbox One X compared to the base Xbox One and without less screen tearing to boot.

Call of Duty: WWII is undoubtedly best played on the Xbox One X even if you own a PS4 Pro. The controller was already well suited for shooters but the release of the Xbox One X has made it the definitive console version.

It’s hard to imagine the X1X not being the better version on a multiplat game.

How would that even be accomplished unless the dev did so on purpose?

It’s got a better hardware inside.

You clearly don't kbow what a generational jump is TC :p

Many claimed that PS4 and X1 weren't powerful enough, yet look at Battlefield games, for example. They went from 30fps with 24 players online last gen to 60fps with 64 players online and much better graphics on current gen.

That's a game changing generational leap.

@R4gn4r0k: it uses a dynamic scaler that goes from 1430x2160 all the way up to 4k. It does tend to drop frames here and there but mostly in cutscenes. It also uses a temporal reconstruction technique that uses previous frame data to build the new one. So even if it reaches 4K, it's not really native.

Funny how TC started the quote after this paragraph:

Why omit that part? I thought you guys were all for full details? Maybe it's because even if the Xbox hits a dynamically scaled 4K output, rhe internally rendered image isn't native 4K anyway.

lol wut? The whole thread is about resolution and comparing the pro's inability to scale to 4K vs the X's. Don't you think it's important to note that neither versions actually hit 4K natively because of the reconstruction technique it uses?

Why when you already did that in this thread? You lead in with the paragraph comparing X to Pro after ignoring the detail about the reconstruction technique. Not trying to downplay the X as it hands in better resolution quality than the pro (which is expected). But also not trying to hide the fact that it doesn't do native 4K either like the article snippet implies.

@xantufrog: it's really the first generation something like this has happened. We have always had midgen refresh but nothing to this degree in the X and Pro.

Meh, I don't like temporal recustruction.

Quantum break used that, and things started looking blurry during intense movement.

Intense movement is something you are bound to do in a shooter :/

That was because they used 4 720p images to do the reconstruction. I don't know how many frames COD uses and what resolution they're rendered at, but it seems to be a higher quality than QB.

Cool, so what gen is PC on then? Since apparently every time we get a simple texture quality/resolution bump, it's a new gen.

I can't seem to find the option for this resolution scaling technology I've heard so much about though. Is it somewhere in the Nvidia control panel??

Just saw the Wolfenstein comparison on DF too, X peaks at 2160p and Pro only 1440p. LOL.

I believe it. Im playing it on og bone, the rez is god awful im not sure what it is really but wow it sucks. My guess is 720p tops.

Wow, didn't expect the BoneX to widen the gap that far on this game.

Well here we go. I knew all those lol 900p Xbone threads were going to come full circle eventually.

Funny how the usual suspects have completely shifted view points though. Now lems are saying how important resolution is and PlayStation gamers are downplaying the situation. System Wars Gold I say.
