CD Projekt's market capitalization has exceeded that of the Japanese publisher Square Enix. CDP is now worth $5.2 billion. compared to $5.1 billion's market capitalisation of its Japanese competitor.

To put this into perspective, the Polish game developer and publisher is now worth more than one of the biggest Polish companies - mining giant KGHM, which is the 6th largest producer of copper in the world, and one of the largest producers of silver. CD Projekt is now the 51st fastest-growing company in Europe.

CD Projekt's Market Capitalisation - 19,839,168,000PLN - $5.266 billion

Square Enix Market Capitalisation - 567,194,000,000JPY - $5.135 billion

Elsewhere in the news, CD Projekt set up a New Company Within Its Capital Group, Spokko, Acquiring a Majority Stake

Maciej Weiss and Rafal Staszewski, Co-founders of Spokko Brand and Leaders of the New Project, Have Been Appointed to the Management of the New Company

Spokko Will Be Implementing Unannounced Yet Project for Mobile Devices

Source

A bit old news but still worth to share it - CD Projekt is now worth more than Square Enix, acquires mobile game developer

Ok, not sure what you want to debate here.

But a company's value can quickly drop, so right now while Cyberpunk is still in development and a massive question mark, So together with GOG the value of CDPR may be high.

Not to forget that Square Enix does not have GOG platform to bring up the value, so comparing the two would be like comparing Valve to Square Enix. IE Apples and Oranges.

Well, that depends on sales and the profit so nothing is set in stone yet.

And considering they are over 200mill in spent development cost so far, it will take a GTA/Rockstar sale to make them a profit.

@Jacanuk: CP is a hypebeast. It'll make money even if it's bad.

Link to the development costs? Can't find anything about 200 million which makes me think you made it up.

Google is your friend.

"CD Projekt RED wants to ensure that Cyberpunk 2077 is as polished as possible, and are therefore giving themselves more than enough time to achieve this. Kiciński stated that The Witcher 3 cost over $85 million USD (300 million PLN), $25 million (90 million PLN) of which were direct production costs.Dec 24, 2017

But it was well over 300mill pln, not $, which makes it around 100mill $ in development cost so far. And yes I know they love to distinguish between "direct" cost and indirect cost, but outside of marketing cost is cost.

And according to forecasts to make that back in they need to sell well above the total sales for Witcher 3 so far, which is around 20mill.

So you compare it to GTA 5, which cost 998,069,500 pln/265 million usd? It's going to end up costing less than half. Be honest, you thought it was 200 mil usd and now you're desperately trying to save face.

"Speaking to Polish outlet Puls Biznesu, Adam Kiciński of CD Projekt RED discussed the upcoming game, noting that the budget for the title is expected to be more than the budget for The Witcher 3. The Witcher 3, he notes, cost well over $85 million in the end (PLN 300 million), although he also emphasizes that only $25 million (PLN 90 million) were direct production costs, with other costs showing up as indirect expenses; CyberPunk is expected to be more expensive."

Lmao! I wonder what the marketing costs for GTA was?

@djoffer: Marketing costs can get pretty expensive depending on what kind of campaign you're running. But CDPR didn't do anything too crazy with the marketing of TW3 so I'm not sure what else makes up that 60 mil gap. Either way, Jacanuk is just talking out of his rear for whatever reason.

Lmao! I wonder what the marketing costs for GTA was?

Well, if you compare GTA´s total budget including markting then you need to compare it to the CDPR total budget as well, which means that considering the actual development cost for GTA was around 125mill and another 100mill in marketing, CDPR will spend roughly around 200mill $ combined Marketing and development cost. And do you really think Cyberpunk will be able to sell even close to GTA V numbers?

Also, Adam Kicinski is deploying a clever book keeping tactic, where they do not factor all the cost in the same year, it´s spread out over the entire development cycle and also using the EU tax loopholes.

Which is why they had a cost of "25mill" which is not a lot but if you compare it to the actual profit which was around 16mill. (This is of course without the GOG profit) Well, the numbers speak volumes.

Yeah their western studios are doing a great job.

I'm talking about a game they developed though, not published by SE, but actually made by them.

Hmm, what do you mean developed by them? Square is like Sony they own studios so technically it´s developed by them.

Like Hitman, Sleeping Dogs, Kingdom Hearts, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Life is Strange, Just Cause, Final Fantasy and a few other games

@Jacanuk: I can say they didn't develop them because they didn't develop them with their in house developers. You do understand that SE has their own development teams and also owns other development companies, right? SE doesn't own Platinum either.

Did MS develop Halo 1-3 or did Bungie? Did Bethesda develop New Vegas or did Obsidian? Did Bethesda develop Doom or did ID?

You are talking nonsense here

Eidos is 100% owned by Square LTD CO. IO was 100% owned by Square. Same goes for Bungie, until 2000 they were a independent studio, after june 2000 they were bought by Microsoft which means any game after 2000 was developed by Microsoft.

So you are talking complete absurdities here if you claim that Square did not develop the games.

Eidos is a subsidiary of Square LTD co. , IO was a subsidiary until they were able to buy their freedom.

So not sure why you keep babbling on about Platinum games,

There was asked about Square Enix games and it was answered, just because you don´t like the answer does not mean you can change it Again Eidos is fully owned by Square and by that is a Square studio.

So why even compare the worth of a company who only creates games to a company who creates games and has a digital distribution platform?

You're comparing apples and oranges here.

This is like comparing Nintendo's worth to MS. It's totally pointless for any constructive argument based on games. MS is worth more than Nintendo, but is MS's game division more succesful than Nintendos? Silly topic.

You seem to have a very hard time understanding what owning a company entails.

Which company did Uncharted? The Last of Us? Horizon Zero Dawn? Or what about Battlefield? Mass Effect?

I know you are trying very hard to portray a certain false narrative but try not to dig yourself too far down into the hole.

And again you dodge. Not easy being you i get and being dug down so deep into a hole you can´t come up from.

Again try to look up ownership and who the owner is, perhaps then you will finally come to terms with your own inabilities.
