So glad that I decided not to buy any last gen games. I also won't be getting The Evil Within, which will also most likely flop. The only remaning fairly new last gen game I'd buy is XCOM: Enemy Within.

Oooooh. When IGN gives a game a 6.5/anything below a 7 you know something's seriously wrong.

2 reviews

One being positive as a 7 out of 10 on this site is good, and should be considered good on a full 1-10 scale.

The other is slightly below good from a website that allowed someone to write the following

Dead Space 2 is an amazing game. I'm going to write about its scary moments, cool kills, and how much I dig the main character's internal struggle, but Dead Space 2 is about more than this. When I beat it for the first time, I sat on the couch with my heart racing and dissected the journey I had just taken. Then, I started my second playthrough, and when that was done, I jumped into a new game for the third time. Dead Space 2 is just that good.

and the following

The Verdict

Cortana once asked Master Chief what would happen if he missed his target, and in the single greatest line of dialogue in Halo history, Chief replied with the coolest, calmest confidence, "I won’t."

And the following

Yes, the gameplay still revolves around climbing walls and shooting bad guys, but refinement found those mechanics

the same site that allowed this into a review

When I rant about why Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception is better than just about anything on the market -- about why I think it's my new favorite game of all time -- I don't talk about the firefights, the new ability to throw grenades back at enemies or collecting the game's 101 well-hidden treasures. I talk about the heart-wrenching section where Drake is by himself and completely lost. He's on his last legs, he's desperate, and I'm right there with him. I'm pushing him through the journey at hand and it's clear that it's a game, but as he stumbles, seeks shelter and loses hope, my heart breaks.

So you know, I mean surely the game can be perfectly fine on its own merits.

Okay so apparently it's doing lousy at a lot of places. Which I guess is semi surprising given that the original had a fair reception if not anything impressive. Never enjoyed the original, probably won't try the sequel. Still stand by dismissing the game based on a good score(7) and a ign review(they suck) is silly.

I'm with finalstar2007, I really don't care much about reviews. Everybody has their opinion and I personally think a lot of people have stupid opinions, or at least opinions I strongly disagree with. The game has had plenty of higher scores in the 8s and 9s as well. Why do some of you take the lower scores, or even the average, as gospel truth?

Not surprising really. The demo was decent enough but it felt so stale and the combat wasn't intricate enough to hold up the game.

The Evil Within is cross-gen and why would think the guy behind Resident Evil 4 would make a flop? If it is 75 percent of RE4 it will be great.

It seems alot of the problems stem from the city stealth aspect.Ill get it down the line. It would have been day 1 if there was some sort of CE.

I'm calling GS HipsterSpot, but netherless I have enjoyed the Lords of Shadow series. MercuryStream has a lot of good ideas, but they tend to over-think on executing their games.

And I rather play this than "Dear Esther" or "Gone Home" any day in the week. I allready knew the game would score badly because it's not innovative, or mature, or sets a new standard for story telling, or any of those things. I still think it will be a blast to play and indeed all the reviewers I've read have praised the combat system.

Yes, a lot of people on here consider anything below an 8.0 not worth playing. Titles like Thief that score a 6.0 are trash that only deserve a place in the trashbin. Heck, some go ever further and only mention games that get GOTY.

Meanwhile, there are other people that don't let their enjoyment be dictated by meaningless scores.

I disagree, tis a very good month. I just bought a game that's fighting to be the very best of an entire genre. A 10/10 if I ever played one.

In any case, I was looking forward to Lords of Shadow 2 because of the open world talk. I loved the Darksider's games for having decent combat and a huge world to explore. I'll have to check out why the reviewers weren't to keen on it and see if it still might be worth a pick up sometime down the line.

Still getting. Mercury steam makes some good games and they will only get better. Going from the gamespot review it seems they make have been forced to add things to make the game longer and the game suffered for it.

My copy of this and tales of hd should be delivered by this week, I'm so excited!

Actually, the European reviewers have scored this game a lot better. Even some 9 out of 10's.

Forcing stealth elements into castlevania when you play as freaking Dracula, is beyond stupid.

The prince of darkness, c'mon people this isn't a difficult concept. Thankfully this will be their last game in the castlevania franchise.

The only thing I'm really interested in is how Alucard fits into all this. Was that just them trying to pander to the SOTN audience for more sales or what?

The stealth elements come in when Dracula is weak and not at full power...it makes sense. And the stealth sections are not as terrible as reviewers make it out to be. They are not good, but to suggest that they break the game is idiotic.

And really, fans are actually enjoying this game more than the first, unlike the reviewers.

As for Alucard, he is definitely plays a big role...and he will get a DLC.

I don't think so. Thief had a hype thread though so that game flopped.

Yeah, but that's because flop has different meaning, be it commercial flop, critical flop or just a flop in general.

You're right that flop can have multiple meanings, but if we take the general SW's meaning, of just not meeting the hype, that doesn't make it a bad game. Neither would it be if it was a commercial flop either.
