Reviving as in making new entries in these series? Or Reviving the Capcom way, which is just to do a slapdash remaster of an older game?
I'd like to see them do a "revival" remaster of Okami, had the PS2 game up until recently when I sold my PS2/PS3 collection off so I never bothered with the PS3 HD remaster there as I also rarely touched my PS3 except to play PS2 games and I didn't feel the need to double dip when I had the PS2 version which played great. But if it came elsewhere, the Switch or XB1, I'd like to pick that back up. If they make a proper sequel on consoles, I think they should outsource it to Platinum Games, who were basically the old Capcom/Clover staff anyways.
I'd love to see them "revive" the Lost Planet games, mainly the original, had great MP too, and the second game Lost Planet 2 was way ahead of its time. It got criticized for having a broken SP element to it, and kind of true, the game could be said to be broken just because it was glitchy as hell but not enough to ruin it. The game was primarily built with online co-op in mind and definitely shined there, even with its many rough edges the game was a blast to play. Problem was, online only games like this weren't acceptable as much back then. Even games like Left 4 Dead needed an offline component to humor those that assumed a game had no value without an offline mode. The 2nd game's technical problems though aren't unique to just it though, this came out right about the time that the key Capcom staff and most likely their A-team underlings (programmers, artists, etc) left Capcom to make games at Platinum after key staff left after the closing of Clover Studios... anyhow, pretty much around this time is when Capcom showed that the B-team was running things and it showed in all their new releases from about that point on up until today where things actually seem worse. I'd love to see this revived though if they can do the Lost Planet series justice.
It's not like they ever ignored Resident Evil either, probably give it too much attention but never seems to be their full creative attention. I think they're trying to hard to pander to the survival horror Nazis with severe ammo limitations and pacing it way too slow. But, looking back, I think maybe RE5's DLC where they return to the RE1 mansion with the new full 3D and modern mechanics was a move into the direction I think they should take the series. Instead of doing a remaster like they've been doing since forever, do a full remake with a modern take on the games.
Anyhow, I like Capcom's intentions, however I have doubts they can get it done. They're not exactly losing money, they've taken enough austerity measures keep their heads above water they just don't have the money to fund big games. So, unless someone is footing the bill, or they're prepared to take investment risk or secure money from investors, or they have considerably high expectations that RE7 is going to provide them the revenues they need to expand, I'd definitely like to know how they plan on accomplishing this. And even outside the funding resources, do they even have the internal talent to accomplish this?
