I can't make one of those fancy threads where everybody votes a top 10 of review sites and somebody accumulates the total and produces a top 10 or top 20. Would be nice if somebody did though. What do you think are the best game review sites/magazines? I use GS the most and will also check out the IGN review briefly. Dont use much else, though. I read a Eurogamer review the other day for BCFC2 and it was a good read. I also check out aggregate sites like metacritic and will briefly look over the main comments left by the reviews.

I have a funny feeling GS will be number 1.

Gamespot and Eurogamer for my serious reviews, IGN for a backup review, and Destructoid for the lulz.

GiantBomb is probably the most credible review site I have been too.

I'll glaze over and watch reviews from most sites, but giantbomb.com is the only ones I really take into consideration. Not because I always agree with them, but because they'r extremely open about their own preferences and it's easy to gauge what i would like against that.

I dont really give any of the sites "credit" or "trust" with my gaming. I try something and if I like it..I like it. Thats the way I have always been.

For me, it goes - 1) Gametrailers - Mostly accurate reviews, excellent video reviews 2) IGN - Superb written reviews, great video reviews, questionable scoring 3) Gamespot - Good written reviews (Kevin is the best), good video reviews, good scoring 4) Giant bomb - Superb video reviews, hate the 5 star system

Most people don't even read the reviews. Anyway, for me it's rather obvious: Gamepro en espanol (not related to the magazine i think, although it might be- but they're completely different) They really break down the game and inform, not really too much opinion. Besides that I like personal video reviews (meaning all likes, dislikes without being super criticial, yet effort put in so it's a good review) example: http://www.youtube.com/watch#!videos=b-NsJ1ucevA&v=EEvwYLz7Go0 For the record, I'm not spanish/mexican/etc., I can just speak the language from learning it. Not a native speaker, but a more than competant one.

I like giantbomb, too. GS and many other sites can be so pretentious with their reviews. Giant Bomb spares you from that BS.

Why bother? Metacritic weights the score based on credibility and gives us a weighted average. If you want critic scores use that..... if not then use your own opinion. Not that hard guys.

I usually do not focus on reviews. They are kind of helpful in giving the general idea of a game, but their final opinion does not matter to me. I can play a game without being concerned if it got high reviews or not. They are just numbers after all.

I don't know how one persons opinion is magically greater than anothers. Well written user reviews are just as valid as any major website or publication's score.

I use Gamespot and Eurogamer now. Lately though I've been taking a look at the Metacrtitic scores and in the past I've used IGN.

*EDIT*: Forgot I read a lot of user reviews, probably more then any other review site in it's whole.

Answering that question will get one flamed.

:P

I tend to follow author's more than sites, but I do read :

IGN

Gamespot

Game Informer

OXM

OPM

--------

Sometimes : Giantbomb, GameTrailers (MW2!), and Gamepro.

As long as Gamespot is at the bottom of the list then it will be correct. After the true review team "left" the new people that have filled in have put out some of the worst reviews I have ever seen. Gamespot reviews literally lost their credibility overnight. I most use IGN and Giantbomb for reviews because they are much more detailed and better written. Sometimes when I am reading a Gamespot review it feels like I am reading a satirical piece written by The Onion. The only thing Gamespot really has going for it is the forum system for which I am here.

Metacritic seems the way to go. An average of those deemed credible by most. Worst case scenario you dont find one or two credible, you just take those out of the average. Otherwise, I like Gamespot and Gameinformer for my reviews. I guess just because Ive been reading those two the longest.

LOL! Believe me, if you think the IGN reviews are bias then you better stay away from the Gamespot reviews. Gamespot reviews do make for a good laugh when you need to be cheered up.

IGN is my favorite and I tend to agree with them the most for Wii or Gamecube games. When it comes to Xbox (original) I go back and look at teamxbox and gamechronicles.

I guess you can't trust anyone. IGN lost a lot of respect after the BFBc2 review.

I just read every review I can to gather an idea of what a game is like. I already know if I was interested in the game or not before any reviews come out, so they don't really influence me into buying games. Oh and Edge is obviously the most reliable review source in the world. /sarcasm

Best for me is metacritic - I see the highest and the lowest reviews and also some more popular sites' reviews GS, IGN, others. User reviews are useful too, you can get a feeling what a game's strong and weak points are.

Gametrailers seem very fair. IGN and GS are awful imo. IGN give 8s and 9s to anything remotely decent, while GS are just plain weird sometimes....

I usually do an weighted average betwen IGN and Gamespot.

Gamespot tho is the one I trust more, so gamespot is weighted twice as much as IGN.
