Can Rare redeem themselves with SoT like Hello Games did with NMS?

Both Came out and disappointed with metascore of 69 and 71 respectively due to lack of content.

But since then Hello Games has redeemed themselves and made NMS a great game, even adding VR that got so many exited.

Can rare redeem themselves with SoT with constant updates and make the game great?

I think they can. Rare and MS deserves that.

Oh yeah, I think that they absolutely can. I think the game has a great look to it but was lacking in content and a meaningful sense of progression. The foundation seems solid enough so I feel that over time they can build upon it very nicely.

The difference is Hello Games always had a great vision for NMS from the start, and now we're seeing that vision be completed (particularly with the VR support!!!).

SoT, on the other hand, is the equivalent of floating dookie, no matter which way you slice it.

To be honest I don't think they have the talent MS haven't exactly helped matters by assigning them garbage.

Rare hasn’t made a great game in over 18 years.

It’s impossible at this point. Half the talented people left the company along time ago. The other half that stayed aren’t capable of making anything but N64 games.

Unless Rare fires everyone and restarts from scratch, there is no hope.

Every console needs a Sea of Thieves. Found it fun, but lacking in content at launch...but it's a whole different game now.

@vfighter: Some story quests, an arena mode, and a new trading company that brings fishing and cooking to the game. Then some assorted cosmetic changes as well.

They are adding in lots of stuff. It's one of the biggest update they have done so far in SoT. They have new quests you can do and a new area. The one important thing people have ask for is now in the game...... Fishing. You can hunt for food and cook it. A new harpoon weapon for your ship so you can hunt down Sea creatures. Finally the Arena mode where you can battle it out with other players kind of like Battle Royal.

Even if they could, there are wayyyyyy more people who want to continue watching sea of thieves fail than those who want it to be redeemed similar to NMS.

It's not failing though. I hope they review it again because if they did it would be in the low 80s for sure. If NMS can be redeemed than SoT can too.

Hello Games redeemed themselves? I hardly call a grindy explorer crafting game redeeming, but maybe that's because I just don't really enjoy those types of games.

SoT is kind of beyond redemption.

So why is SoT beyond redemption? To me Rare has begun to redeem itself with all the updates to this game.

Because the premise sucks. Let's make a pirate game that has no actual loot you can dig up. Instead, the loot you get can be sold for gold, and then you can buy some boring cosmetics! Oooh, how fun. Not.

Maybe if the loot wasn't so pointless, it would be interesting. You are stuck doing menial tasks to get anywhere, whereas just exploring the world yields basically nothing. Sure, you can have fun with friends for a bit, but most people will grow tired of that, especially when world exploring loot shooters, like Division 2, are done so much better.

They'd have to basically rework the entire loot system, and then amp up the boring combat.

@DragonfireXZ95: I heard NMS was boring too at first. They added in more stuff to do over time and so is Rare with SoT. This game like NMS is not a loot shooter. The loot will improve over time and they are improving the combat. In the next update you can target certain parts of the ship to do damage like shoot at the mast and cripple the ship.

SoT is getting better with each update so despite the haters this game has improved just like NMS.

The moron behind Hello Games fooled all of you and you think they have redeemed themselves with shitty VR, lol you guys are funny.

No Man's Sky has improved greatly over the years. The Xbox 1 version reflects that. GS gave it an 8, many Xbox centric sites are giving positive reviews in the 80's. But that was almost a year ago the game should have improved even more by now. VR is just icing on the cake.

No redeeming needed for Mighty Rare, Sea of mofo Thieves rocks hard with more solid game-play than the entire movie-game library combined. :P

In my opinion while there are some similarities I think that, to me at least, SoT has a much weaker base game than NMS.

Keep the updates coming, release the full (real) game day one on the next Xbox

Wait, when did No Man Sky redeem themselves? Sure the updates have been kinda decent and free but they did not change the fact that the game is unredeemable and besides the few hardcore fans, they still avg. just around 2k active players which is less than a cookie clicker game.

And Sea Of Thieves, don´t make me laugh that game is dead and buried and if Rare had been a horse they would have been taken out back and shot and put out of its misery.

SoT doesn't lack content it lacks a compelling gameplay loop. For PvP when it works its an amazing game. But the PvP is poorly structured. The game is a barebones sandbox/pve game with a heavy PvP/player interaction that really isn't necessary to "progress". It would be like playing a platformer where jumping is completely optional.

And they made that issue worse mostly with things like alliances.

No, they can't, as much as people complained about lack of content at launch, the reasons were different, No Man's Sky failed to deliver what was promised meawhile Sea of Thieves delivered the experience they tried to sell, but that experience became tedious after a short time and the premise don't allow them to be creative enough.

They can't redeem themselves under Microsoft, which has buried them... Maybe if they went back to Nintendo, then they might.
