The future of displays like this could mean so much for portable games consoles, as well as just normal TV and movie displays etc obviously.
I love seeing this kind of stuff!

It's still totally exciting for the future though :) Imagine having a screen like that on your wall like a giant poster, or like a blind that could be rolled up when you're not watching it etc, or on a really thin and portable tablet style device... And we think current LED TVs are thin :oThat is some cool stuff. I love the look of the OLED technology, but it's expensive as all heck right now.

Oh good now when i hit my tv with a hammer it wont break.
Hey, it's the first Wii-proof TV. Gotta give 'em credit for that :P
Dang, I was gonna say that... :([QUOTE="lundy86_4"]It's still totally exciting for the future though :) Imagine having a screen like that on your wall like a giant poster, or like a blind that could be rolled up when you're not watching it etc, or on a really thin and portable tablet style device... It's gonna be crazy. I'll definately be saving up for their mainstream release.
The price on these organic LED is rediculous. Sony even stopped production in Japan because they were not selling. If however sony manage to cheapen the manufactuar process and keep it to the equivelent value and pricing of that of current HDTV or LED TV, then i would be very impressed.

Yeah, these kind of things always launch at a ridiculously high price. HDTV's were incredibly expensive at launch, but now can be found for incredibly affordable prices. Personally, i'm picking up a 42-inch 1080p Samsung for $750CAD after tax.
I can't wait until they make digital picture frames out of these, Harry Potter style moving pictures ftw.bobbetybob
Heh, that's exactly what I was thinking. :P

wow if nintendo uses that for the 3ds id be very pleased

Way, way, way, way, way too expensive unfortunately.
They were selling 15-inch OLED for around $10,000 or so at one point.
It can't be THAT expensive these days since they are already starting to use them in mobile phones and other portable devices.

Hmmm, interesting. Well, it was that expensive a little more than a year ago, and I can't see them reducing manufacturing costs that quickly. Unless they've changed up the product a little bit.
Lol, wait my bad, I misread. It was 11-inch for around $1,500 currently
There's a lot of information currently here regarding OLED and how the big companies are trying to bring them in around 2010/2011.
Sony's 11-inch OLED launched for $2500 initially in the US. Link
Quite possibly although I think it's more likely newspapers will become part of the whole digital tablet revolution and we will all end up with some sort of tablet device for viewing all our current print media rather than newspaper companies making their papers out of OLED screens.Future of newspapers.
