Bungie ditching Activision, will self-publish Destiny.

Great news. Didn't know you could go back from selling your soul to the devil.

On one hand it's always good when a dev leaves Activision. On the other hand, Bungie fucking sucks, so I don't really care.

Destiny is a mediocre game at best. That is not on Activision, that is on Bungie.

Wait wasn't the deal for 10 years that includes '4 games'? Yes, 4 Games in addition to dlc's. Bungie so far had only released 2 games.

I love how gamers just shift the blame to fit their narrative. One company made the game. One company published the game.

This was done when Bungie was "free" from the tyranny of Microsoft and I doubt they would get into a deal where Activision could strong arm them.

Destiny is their franchise and it's their fault. Every step of the way.

It's easy to blame the big evil corporate target because gamers still wanna be all touchy feely about Bungie. But there's a plain and simple truth. They made the game. They get the blame. Because if the game had turned out amazing they would get all the credit.

Tell me about all the meetings you sat in at Activision where you saw all this happening.

Having come off Halo Bungie certainly had more to bargain with. They weren't a helpless unknown studio. Hence why they got to keep the IP even if they left activision. This deal favored them. Hence keeping the IP. Hence the long term security on a new IP.

Since the main reason they broke away from MS was a lack of creative freedom and MS wanting them to keep making Halo games you have to wonder how they made the same mistake twice.

@cainetao11: Most people don't know what goes on behind the scenes so if something is wrong they blame the developer. Activision has a history is screwing over and ruining games and developers, most famously Infinity Ward and CoD.

You admit it, people just make up what makes them feel better. They want activision to be evil, and thus let the confirmation bias commence. Despite Activision releasing plenty of great games and their relationship with Blizzard has never shown any sign of all this meddling. Activision, on their end, probably had a right to terminate the deal or end it early if they wish. I think they saw the Destiny train had died and nothing was going to save it. Lots of deals get made for several movies, books, games, etc but that's only if that sweet sweet coin keeps coming into the bank accounts of those publisher executives.

So if they have a history of this, why ever blame the dev? Just go with the "history". Stop dude. Its typical SW bullshit.

To be transparent, I don't like/dislike Activision, EA, Ubisoft, whoever. I play video games and understand that a corporation is made up of many different human beings with many different views on life, business etc. Many are just glad to have a job.

Your point is solid. Blizzard recently got shit for making a Diablo mobile game and its seems to be a reskin of some other mobile game. Other than that most people I know like Blizzard and their games and don't hate Activision. Do some practices suck? Sure, but some of the posting by people here sucks too. Wow is bleeding subs rapidly, overwatch is losing players and its esports scene was said to be a disappointment, high level execs jumping ship, devs being canned, Hots is dead, Diablo 3 playerbase is gone, Starcraft is dead everywhere except Korea, stocks dropping fast and not recovering, constant controversy. Even Hearthstone is in trouble. Not sure where you guys are getting your info when all this is well documented stuff.

To be fair, the market's been hit hard lately due to tons of different issues. Which tends to compound issues that activision is having financially.

I'm not seeing a shortage of overwatch players. It's not as dire as you make it out to be. WOW does what wow always does, survive in the midst of MMO's being mostly dead. Although at least now you're actually talking about something that can be googled and found online, activisions market performance. Not 100% sure on all the assertions that so and so game is dead, seeing as there's no real definition for dead. A game loses two players and suddenly it's dead in the eyes of forum dwelling gamers.

I didn't make a claim like yours but in terms of self-publisher/developer: Valve. They don't even have a hierarchy. Nevertheless that was besides the point. Sony don't give the freedom to the devs just like other publishers. Sony's entire lineup is a proof and then that:
