Bungie Already Talking Beta and Alpha for Next Title

Wow, Bungie firing on all cylinders alright - can't wait to see how all this shakes out.

The Story.

Over on Bungie.net, the Halo crew has posted a beta signup form to help mess around with stuff related to their games. The most interesting part of the posting however is the bullet point "Alpha and Beta Testing for our next game."

Let's let that sink in for a minute. Bungie signed a 10 year publishing agreement for their next title with Activision back at the end of April but went independent back in 2007. That was effective immediately so even though Reach just shipped this year, they have had potentially 3 years to be working on a new IP in secret.

While Respawn Entertainment is clearly starting from scratch, Bungie seems to be much closer to producing a viable product with their newfound independence. The Halo 3 Engine was developed in-house at Bungie, so I'm wondering if that tech stays with them and we'll see their next title running on it.

I really hope they are making an FPS that borrows from halo, but is new and fresh and maybe more along the lines of Perfect Dark 64. If they do this and put it on PC I will be ALL OVER IT. I dont like the Xbox, but I can admit Halo is really good, and to see bunjie have the chance to break away from being exclusively for 360 is great!

Bungie moved away from Microsoft because they were sick of making Halo, so I doubt their next game will be anything like it.

Is that true? I hadnt heard that. Well it could still be an FPS. Dont ask me why I am hoping for an FPS, cause I wish devs would stop making so many of them! That said, I guess just wanted a game like Halo, Perfect Dark, timesplitters and so on, on the PC :P. Well heres to hoping there game is great and comes to PC or PS3.

It's coming to PC. Don't know about PS3, it just says "Con".

Lol I dont care if its on 360, I just dont want it to be 360 exclusive :P. I would prefer it on PC, which apparently is happening.

Did they join forces with Activision? i forgot, if so then they should work on the next Call of Duty, you know i guess giving it the Bungie touch :P

It is possible, but they are not part of Activision, they simply have an agreement to make Activision their publisher for a while. I doubt this will happen, but who knows.

Hopefully it's not as bad as Reach. Game was such a disappointment..

I didn't spend that much time with the game, just about two months.

Campaign was pretty boring, thought it was the worst of the five. Wasn't a fan of multiplayer. Going in I thought the armor abilities would be great but it turned out to be not so great. I loved the DMR and felt like I was the only person who could use it as I pulled off 5 shots constantly. It wasn't a bad game, I just had no fun with it at all. Oh and I thought the maps were the worst by far and I was actually insulted with the initial maps. Weren't three or four of them just Forge World maps?

I think it goes CE > H2 > ODST > H3 > Reach

I doubt it wont be an FPS though. I would expect them to want to use the success of the halo series to help market and improve sales for whatever new IP they are working on.

Expect the following:

"From the creators of the award winning Halo series" on the cover of any game they put out:P

Bungie always make a new engine for every different game series that they have done... It's how they work, as the Halo engine is pretty damn specialised, to the level where a lot of tweaking will be needed to make it suitable for other games (there has really been only one game other than Halo which used the Halo engine, and that was stubbs, the zombie, rebel without a pulse)

An RPG would be nice. :D

Please dont be an RTS! I have never been a fan. C and C is about all I like and I dont even love that.

3rd person tactical shooter would be great to see from them.

lets hope their multiplayer doesnt fail like reach. number 3 on live 2 months after the game comes out, only 90,000 online during peak hours. very sad. Well maybe everyone realised every Halo has been the same ol stuff over the years. "ow wow they added sprint oh man that is so advanced and new!!!" pffff ok whatever. AiurProtoss

Yeah, Activision is all about exclusives, especially PS3 ones.

i hope they do the same for FPS as platinum games did for TPS with vanquish, maybe a fresh new FPS that borrows from halo, but it should be more single player focused. Or do we have to wait for platinum games to do every genre? ;P
