Yep, another BotW thread, which one do think is better overall ? No sex in BotW, so TW3 wins by default.

Haven't played the Witcher 3 and I hear it's incredible, but BotW might be the best game I've played in the last 10 years.
The Witcher III is probably going to stay in my top 3 favorite games of the gen. I'm not sure if BotW will crack the top 10, plus at this point, I think it's safe to say that I like ALBW better.
Haven't played the recent Zelda, but I did finish W3. I would have a hard time comparing them knowing what I know about past Zelda games.
Zelda is a gameplay-driven series, although there is a story, puzzles, reading and such involved, the primary component of the game is you controlling the character. In games such as the W3, a big portion of the game involves you reading stuff and listening to dialogue, making decisions, setting up your skills and equipment(heavy rpg mechanics basically). There is a lot more of that than I could imagine a Zelda game having, unless they significantly changed the formula in BOTW.
So for me, I would have a hard time saying which one is better, it's just a different kind of experience. Right now games like the Witcher 3 appeal to me more, but it's just a matter of personal preference. Gameplay is most likely far superior in Zelda, I could tell you that even without having played the recent game. There is nothing remarkable about the gameplay in Witcher 3, but I really enjoyed its RPG mechanics and overall story. One of the best RPG games I ever played for sure.
@Alucard_Prime: They actually did add a whole lot more mechanics and systems to Zelda with Breath of the Wild. There are even light character builds now. It's an RPG in all but name at this point.
@charizard1605: It's good that they did that without overdoing it too much, as long as the game still feels like an Action-rpg where your skills with Link's moves are the primary deciding factor of you winning a battle, and not because of that skill you equipped or that Sword you found(not just because of that anyways). I also read the game is difficult, another good thing because I always found Zelda games a tad too easy.

Yeah, there's a lot of stuff they've aded this time around. You can find loads of equipment, each armor and weapon has its own rating, all of it can be upgraded, every weapon and shield can break, there are multiple effects and buffs (Attack, Defense, Stealth, Movement Speed, Heat, Flame, Cold resistances), plus you need to prepare food and elixirs from ingredients found in the wild to regain health and possibly to grant yourself said buffs ahead of boss battles, there are passive and active spells and abilities...
They went all in. This game feels like the realization of what they always wanted Zelda to be.
Link is a way better hero
guy saves the world multiple times against a giant pig sorcerer what the hell is geralt done nothing link travels through time lifts up a master sword shoots lazers outa his sword and can reflect geralts attack with the mirror shield
@BassMan: Except the "game" part of The Witcher 3 kinda sucks.
I disagree. The combat is decent. The world is beautiful, believable and fun to explore. The quests are interesting with purpose and incentive. There is plenty to do and the story and lore are excellent. I like that it has a mature theme and humour mixed in as well.

Combat is decent compared to the myriads of RPG's with garbage combat systems. It doesn't hold a candle to the one with good combat systems like Dark Souls or even BOTW(which isn't even an RPG).
The RPG elements are weak as hell and the character building is poor.
The level design is as average as average can get.
Yeah gameplay is pretty bad. Lore is great, story is great, graphics are great, side quests are interesting and engaging and world building is fantastic but the core gameplay elements are weak.
@Juub1990: I don't think Breath of the Wild has very good combat (especially the melee). Dark Souls is obviously good, but that is a totally different type of game with a much slower pace and minimal enemies to fight. The RPG elements are fine in TW3. There is plenty of choice, customization, and progression. You don't get to build your own unique character, but you can certainly influence what Geralt does and shape his relationships, quests, story and other aspects.
Breath Of The Wild for me. Witcher 3, I can appreciate it for what it is, and the amount of effort time and dedication the devs put in. But its just didn't do it for me.
The moment I walked out the cave in BOTW, I knew I was in for something special. I haven't experienced that in a game in a very, very long time

You have not seen many scenes with a character overlooking a large vista? LOL

It was super generic, I agree. I dunno! Maybe it was just the fanboy in me, getting super excited. But it was really special
Witcher 3 is probably the most overrated game since Halflife 2.
It's weird, you know? People insult Skyrim, call it shallow and speak about the Witcher 3 like it's some sort of pc classic.
Yet, The Witcher 3 feels like a console game, it was just as buggy, the basic controls are all over the place and the character builds and combat are far shallower than anything in Skyrim.

It was a good opening and a nice nod to the more open world nature of the game ahead. I don't think it was special in the grand scheme of things. Glad you liked it though.

I really like Skyrim, and HL2. The controls in TW3 were fine after they tweaked them with the alternate controls patch, and I did not encounter many bugs. None of the games you mentioned deserve to be shit on.
Breath of the Wild is a much better game. The Witcher 3 is a better story with a fantastic group of character, but the game attached to it isn't particularly special.
But I'm apparently crazy, I like judging my games on that pesky playing it part. Insanity I know.
@Juub1990: It's not exactly Age of Decadence or Alpha Protocok, but few games are.
The Witcher 3 offered a series of genuinely interesting choices (that actually made you think) and meaningful consequnces (that sometimes rewarded you for going back to previous areas). You're obviously going to be playing as Geralt no matter what, but you get to play as him struggling to find the lesser evils, etc. It's all it needs to be, and it works well for what it is.
*edit* Anyway, I can't choose between the two. They're both masterpieces.
Playing BoTW made me appreciate other open world games especially The Witcher 3. The Witcher 3 is just more rich, dense with content, every character has unique voices and perspective views when talking, diverse environments and varied types of landscapes, just to name a few details too many to count. Games like The Witcher 3 is a continent and BoTW is just an island when it comes to open world. But that doesn't mean BoTW is a bad game. There's fun to be had in this casual friendly dumbed down open world Zelda game. There's times I just want to sit back and relax while playing an open world game and don't care about progressing the story to climb trees for apples and only in BoTW is where I could do that.
@Zensword: Breath of the Wild, and it's not even close. If you think that's a silly statement, you haven't played the new Zelda.
