Breath of the Wild vs. The Witcher 3

The Witcher 3 has stronger storytelling and much better quest design.

BOTW has better combat, exploration, world design, and gameplay (that lets you play your own way).

Witcher 3, hands down. Conversely, BotW was so off-putting, that I don't consider myself much of a Zelda fan anymore.

Better than all 3d Zeldas not named Majora's Mask.

More like the worst Zelda of them all if it wasn't for wind waker, but I don't care about starting another rant over botw, so feel free to disagree.

Witcher 3 has bad combat, but Breath of the Wild is just bad overall.

In the end, the Witcher is the superior game. I don't think they're even in the same league, to be honest.

Geralt couldn't wield a deku stick. tW3 combat is absolute trash, which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if it was a FTP game that didn't have very much combat in it. Own both games, dumped over 165 hours into BotW (last time I checked) and it has more character in any one random shrine, than in the entire tW3 game.

@dr_vancouver: Yea, I have to disagree with you there. The Witcher 3 is full of engaging characters and interesting story pieces and side quests. Never heard anyone say it was lacking in character. Most people just hate on the combat lol

So TW3 is superior in exploration, puzzle solving, and combat? I think not.

Of course I'm voting Witcher 3, although I haven't played BOTW personally but I've watched my cousin play abit of it... and it just looks kinda bland to me. Sure there are some cool things about it (ie. combat and physics seem cool), but the world looks a little boring and empty to me.

I maintain that if this wasn't a Zelda game, it wouldn't have been as well received. Imo of course.

Both are great games, but I am a Zelda fangirl. Snowboarding on your shield off a cliff, and then paragliding to safety? The fact that you can go anywhere and climb everything is amazing. Really love the artstyle also. The Witcher 3's story telling is far superior mind you.

No, TW3 is superior in everything, except combat. Which is bad in both.

So TW3 lets you solve a problem multiple ways, has a world where you can climb anywhere, and has an environment thats part of the game?

Goes to show, BOTW fans realize correctly that TW3 has better storytelling. Why can't TW3 fans realize that BOTW has better overall gameplay?

TW3 has a vast world worth exploring, filled with charismatic and well-developed characters as well as proper quests.
Breath of the Wild has a massive world, that is only interesting if you're particularly fond of hiking.

BOTW is the better game. TW3 is the better story.

Like I mentioned before in another poll months ago, Witcher would obviously beat Zelda in System Wars polls, for the simple reason that Witcher caters to three fanbases (cows, lemmings, hermits) whereas Zelda only caters to a single fanbase (sheep).

Also, every place you visit in The Witcher has some political relevance. Even that tiny village may have, at one point, been a center of dispute between some principality and some minor kingdom.

Breath of the Wild has some interesting lore tidbits, here and there, but The Witcher goes way beyond what is expected of a video game.

BOTW is copy paste job, especially the shrines. Really does show the Switches limitations, and don't get be started on the FPS and breakage system. It's a bad game, proper fanboy shit if you disagree.

Witcher 3. Weapon break system found in zelda is shit.

I think overall I slightly prefer The Witcher 3, but Zelda is absolutely brilliantly designed.

It is an amazing game. I have not beat it yet. I think Zelda will stand the test of time more.

The next witcher game is going to be absurd though

These 2 games focus on different things. Zelda focuses on simulated physics and level design for its game world to provide entertainment. The Witcher 3 however implements a realistic and believable world through beautifully made realistic graphics, interesting NPCs, and intriguing stories. It simply means people prefer TW3 for its ability to immerse you in a world that belongs to the fantasy genre of books. There is no doubt Lord of the Rings and A Song of Ice and Fire series are well loved by non-Japanese. Zelda however reminds you you are in a video game designed to entertain you through well built level design. You are to explore and discover things while finding patterns to solve problems designed by the game designer. Zelda's formula is old which doesn't mean it's bad as it's a tried and tested formula while TW3 provides an experience you would not have been able to in the past because of technology.

So to claim that BOTW is the better game is false as it insinuates that having fun with the game world because of environment, characters, and story is not a legitimate way of enjoying video games.

Jag85 has always been known to prefer Japanese games over anything Western made so one has to remember that.

Witcher 3 for me. Awesome story and we don't have to change weapon every 10 hits

I can’t wait for the next Witcher and of course Cyberpunk 2077. Those two are some of my most anticipated games of all time.

IDK, I own tW3. Graphically It's pretty enough on PS4 Pro, I'll give it that. I guess maybe it's because I never played 1 & 2 that the story did absolutely nothing for me, gameplay sure as shit didn't. It would have to be a pretty good story to overshadow that garbage combat in a combat heavy game.

Also, I feel as if the people that complain about weapons breaking in BotW played for 45 min's at most. In my experience, I'm constantly having to discard good weapons, there's plenty enough weapons all over the place, until you have enough hearts to obtain the Master Sword- which never breaks.

I like puzzles so Zelda.

I like the realistic look. So, it's TW3 by default. But, if I got bored with TW3 (after 173 hours), I would have been bored with BoTW, probably much sooner.

Breath of the Wild is the greatest game ever created. The Witcher 3 isn't even the best RPG of the gen.

Combat and traversal, these are the only two categories in which BOTW beats the witcher 3.

The rest from the story to graphics(this will be subjective) to quests to environment/world, you name it, the witcher 3 beats BOTW easily.

Overall I'd go with witcher 3.

Neither as both have some pretty shitty parts that counter act each other so for me it's a tie.

Although neither of their worlds is as boring as MGS5's bore fest of a excuse of an open world.

Mgs5 is seriously the most wtf 10/10 I've seen in my life. how the hell is it a perfect game? As an mgs fan, it was trash. So repetitive and absolutely boring. Critics were piad by Kojima.

I'm gonna give the edge to Breath of the Wild. Just for being more accessible. The weapon durability sucks a fattie though.

Absolutely everything about the Witcher is better for me, not even close.

They're both really good games and I love them both!

BOTW's combat, exploration and overall freedom trumps The Witcher (and other games like it) by sooo many miles. The only things The Witcher really has over BOTW are graphics and story telling. But everything else, BOTW wins.

But like I said, they're both great games!

I don't want to pit the two against each other in thought.. They both showed how open world gaming could move forward.

It also goes with the setting. It would look silly if Geralt was able to climb a cliff with his bare hands or paraglide with that tiny device Link uses. I think those who like TW3 also looks for game mechanics with a basis in reality. CDPR could have incorporated say, AC or Uncharted climbing mechanics in TW3. But, it just wouldn't look right.

Witcher is winning.
