BREAKING NEWS: 360 getting a $50 price cut

I just saw this on CNBC, more details to come...

EDIT: I just confirmed on streetaccount.com that all 3 versions will get a $50 cut in early August. Streetaccount is a secured paid subscription service so I can not link this. This is from 1 source, not yet officail, but highly likely.

This would boost salees in a slow month.

I just confirmed this news to be true on Streetaccount.com. I cant link it because it is a subsription service for stocks.

All 3 models will get a $50 slash in early August. Should boost sales.

I think that they are setting the price drop to only 50 dollars so that people will go crazy about it during the halo 3 storm and when the hype dies down they'll drop it another 50 by the end of the year.Art_of_Chilling

If you remember E3, they talked about the big 3 franchises being on 360. Cutting the price a week BEFORE Madden will also help Madden 08 360 sales. Do you suppose the other $50 drop will come before GTA IV?

The price of the core does not matter...Because of all the add ons you need, I don't even know why they still carry it. I have friends that own gaming stores that almost never sell a core. M$ should drop it because for companies making games for the 360 because of the no Hard drive.

BINGO. it wouldnt be smart to drop the price by too much considering that H3 is right around the corner.

Wow, a £25 price cut is really going to make me want to waste my money.

This is almost certainly a two pronged strategy. Dropping the price too much before Halo 3 is silly, as many would buy the console at its current price. I'd expect another $50 price drop by the end of this year.

This has to be what they are going for. I think the $100 sounds a lot better but to save money, they can make a price drop of $50 right before the huge fall lineup hits and claim you can play Halo 3, Madden, and GTA on a machine that costs the same as a Wii. But for this to work, they will need to really advertise the price cut.

Agreed! I can't believe the Elite is going tolaunch at £329.99. I thought there would have been a price drop for the core and Premium and I could pick the Elite up for £280 the old premium price. Boooooooooo!
