Good that he is involved now, but sad that it has come to this. How incompetent is 343? Halo 4 was a good game, but they have fucked up the franchise post Halo 4. For the official Halo studio (that has veterans from Bungie) to not know how to handle the franchise... that is pathetic.

Can they use some of the 500 million dollars and hire Martin O'Donnell to do the music again I mean where is this money going?

Halo 1-3 music > Halo 4 didn't play 5 yet

And Destiny 1 music > Destiny 2 (Marty was fired and didn't do this one)

Marty track record is 10/10 perfect when he's not on the quality drops big.

Its good that soemone from bungie leading this project but they have to complete reboot it and develop from scratch if not cancelled this game.

Bungie should never have left. Destiny is awful. It's like Halo, except soulless and grindy. Halo is at least ok.

Damn! I wonder how much they decided to pay him. I also wonder for how long will he surive with this messy dev. Also, just one guy at the company that knows what he is doing won't be enough to save Halo.

Joe Staten is a hit or a miss. He was the lead writer for ReCore and Crackdown 3, and those games were mediocre as hell but than again, ReCore was more fun and a better game then Crackdown 3.

Every game he wrote the story got rushed out the door and the story had to be massively adjusted when he was at Bungie. Ever since he joined MS, his job has been to assist in creating stories for their games, which on top of being a very vague role I think is just a bad idea to have some random outsider go in at every studio and insist on having input on their project. To top it off, I thought Halo 4 had okayish story in the series right next to Halo 2, so it's not like this guy the magic bullet for the Halo series. In fact, as far as story is concerned Halo 3 was on the bad end of the spectrum. ODST and Reach at least was better. It's pretty clear 343 Industry obviously have no idea how to make a good Halo game so they need all the help they can get and MS put too much trust into 343 at this point and thinking they have finished Halo Infinite by now but if it was all Covid-19's fault, I can understand the situation. Without working inside the studio, you have limited resource while working at home.

Could care less about the single player - just make sure the multiplayer is as stellar as 5.

So wait... Like a month ago this game was coming out in November.

It's kinda like DICE not knowing what to do with Battlefield after Battlefield 1.

The designers and artists and developers may all be the same, but the heads of the studio clearly have something different in mind, and it usually revolves around incompetence or greed.

That’s cool I guess. Not sure how some of his other stuff turned out, never played ReCore or Crackdown 3 but I have heard his name before. Also not sure how much of an impact he’ll have or how much adjusting he’ll have on the current product.

This is actually pretty substantial and I'm glad Staten is coming back on board. Hopefully he can provide the guidance that will be helpful. His last work on Halo was Halo 3/ODST which I found to be both terrific. I wish him the best of luck, especially when the sizable portion of the gaming community has their sights on Halo right now.

How is it "cool"? You didn't even play his recent games like Recore or Crackdown 3 which got really terrible reviews. It'd be cool if he's was a writer on good story games like Witcher 3 of Last of Us then I'd be excited I don't like recent track record at all.

@ProtossRushX: Relax. I said that’s cool I guess because of his previous work with the franchise of which I liked. I’m fully aware of how ReCore and Crackdown 3 reviewed but I still can make up my own mind about them. Perhaps I would have enjoyed them more or at least enjoyed the writing in them. Like I said though I haven’t played them so I can’t say one way or the other. I probably would have been just as happy or perhaps even more so if they brought in some other writer from another great story driven game. 🤷‍♂️

A new writer and project lead being hired for a game that was supposed to be going gold and printing retail discs 2 months from now...........

And people think a delay to mid 2021 will change anything of consequence? Im going to say it right now, there was no way this game was ever going to come out this holiday and MS knows it. The games problems (which extend far beyond the abysmal graphics) are baked into the design philosophy of the game itself.

At this point I believe they need to restart development from scratch, and delay the game to 2023.

• migrate to Unreal Engine 5
• restart development from scratch
• delay to 2023 at earliest
• drop all other platforms but Series X

Kingdom Hearts restarted development from scratch multiple times. They also switched engines from Luminous to Unreal Engine 4. The game ended up being well received.

Lol at everyone who said it looked good and defended 343. They have released nothing but shit for 8 years. MS needs to cut their losses, scrap the whole project and shut 343 down. Even if the game ever does release and ends up being decent it won't matter because all anyone will ever associate it with are memes. Halo is damaged goods now.

The only way to save the franchise is to let everyone forget about it for awhile. Secretly hire Bungie to reboot the franchise and shock everyone in a few years with the reveal.

How can you be an Xbox fan and not know this guy? Not only was he one of the leads in Halo, but this dude wanted Destiny to be the real deal. A true mmo with deep mechanics, great story, etc. Activision told him to fuckoff because it was too complex for their CoD/dudebro crowd and we got what we have, an abomination of a game called Destiny 1 and 2.

Hell no... if they screw up the SP again like 5, then it'll all be over as far as I'm concerned (and a lot of other Halo fans). SP should be the starting point, then MP.
