Poll Bioshock trilogy vs Mass Effect trilogy (61 votes)

Bioshock trilogy 34%
Mass Effect trilogy 66%

I've never played any of these games before but I know they are very highly rated. I have all 6 and think it's time I tried them but I don't know which series to try 1st. I know they are very different games making it difficult to compare them but I need to know, in your opinion, which trilogy is better? or which do you prefer?

Hard choice. Mass Effect has great character development and story. Bioshock has great atmosphere and better gameplay. I would go with Mass Effect because character development and story are more important to me and it also does the other strengths of Bioshock to a good degree.

Only major thing I didn't like about mass effect was the ending of the 3rd game. Also when a fan theory paved the road to a fantastic ending but they didn't use it.

Bioshock - Great

Bioshock 2- Good

Bioshock Infinite - Mediocre

———

Mass Effect - Decent

Mass Effect 2 - Fantastic

Mass Effect 3- Good

Mass Effect by a slim margin. Infinite is pure trash.

I never played Bioshock 2. But, I played and finished the other 2 (plus Burial at Sea). I also have the Mass Effect Trilogy set.. I played all three substantially. But, I eventually quit because I could not get immersed in any of them. One reason why is my general burnout from 3rd-person games. Another is the feeling of artificial restrictions imposed during gameplay, probably because it gave the feeling of being a cover shooter. I felt more freedom with movement in the first-person view of the Bioshock games.

The Bioshock games felt like I was there while in the ME games, I was controlling a puppet. I was immersed in one while I was watching someone else get immersed on the other. ;) Weird. But, meh.

I loved both. Bioshock takes more risks and is a bit more creative, but the world in Mass Effect is very cool. The problem with Mass Effect is that it builds up to something so grand, that all it could do is disappoint.

I might be in the minority here, but I LOVED Bioshock Infinite. And the twist in the first Bioshock is pretty nuts.

They both suck.

one is one of the worst FPS franchise in history. other is terrible cover to cover third person shooter.

mass effect 1 vs bioshock 1 is a tough one. i thought both were amazing, although me1 was rougher around the edges.

didn't like mass effect 2 - the story wasn't a patch on the first game and it couldn't make its mind up whether it wanted to be an rpg or tps, so in the end fell short in both genres. bought 3 but didn't play it. i really enjoyed bioshock 2 and infinite was a lot of fun despite its faults.

i'll go with bioshock

The Bioshock games have far better stories than the first two Metro games. And that's coming from someone who don't give a crap about stories. ;) The levels in Bioshock are better. There's far more freedom exploring Rapture and Columbia than the same old tunnels and corridors in the first two Metro games. The one thing 2033 and Last Light have is atmosphere. But, Bioshock and Infinite also have their own atmosphere and they differ from each other unlike the Metro games (same ol crap).

I much preferred the ME trilogy over Bioshock. Bioshock was a great series, but i'm a much bigger fan of space-opera Sci-Fi.

I love both of those trilogy but I'll go with Bioshock cause I just find the Rapture in the bottom of the sea more immersive and I love the world of Rapture, and inn Bioshock 2, you get to play as the Big Daddy which was really cool. Bioshock 3 was a letdown and the flying city of Colombia didn't felt newish nor it wasn't impressive as Rapture was.

I love Mass Effect trilogy, I replay the game not too long ago but the world of Mass Effect isn't immersive as Bioshock was, so my vote goes to Bioshock.

The Bioshock games have their charm when it comes to the game world.

Bad timing for a proximity grenade to go off. I put one at a Little Sister portal. ;) Here comes Daddy. He knows I'm here although he hasn't seen me yet. Otherwise, he'd be red, not yellow.

The Mass Effect games? Hmmmm. Not quite sure what to make of it.

They're all from different(?) versions of the Unreal engine.

Mass Effect easily.

The gameplay in the ME1 is rough due to performance issues (atleast on 360, I look forward to playing it on X) but has probably my favorite story in any game of the past 2 gens. It also probably my favorite "universe" in any game series I've played. ME2 has much improved gameplay and the story while not quite as good 1 is still a great ride and love gathering up squad mates and earning their loyalty. 3 was a huge disappoint from a story/character point of view, still had its moments though but makes up for it to some extent with arguably the best gameplay of the 3. 2 amazing games + one really good one

With Bioshock - I enjoyed my first playthrough alot, however on later playthroughs alot of the magic is gone. 2 is more of the same, but also never really had the same magic of 1. Infinite was enjoyable, not as bad as some people say, but nothing amazing. 1 amazing game + 2 good ones

Absolutely play the Mass Effect trilogy, and play the original Mass Effect on PC because the console version sucks ass.

I highly recommend these mods for a first time playthrough of the original Mass Effect:

  • MEUITM - better graphics
  • Faster Elevators - because they're slow as Hell
  • Mouse Fix - removes mouse acceleration, makes the game feel better.

Mass Effect is quite the great game worth playing for the thick, foreboding atmosphere fueled by its stellar soundtrack and real solid writing, probably the best in the series.

Sh*t, that's tough...

I rate BioShock 1 higher than any of the Mass Effects, but I rate ME as a trilogy higher.

So I'd probably go Mass Effect.

Hmm, a tough decision.

Bioshock 1 and 2 are good and same goes for Mass Effect 1 and 2

Bioshock Infinite and Mass Effect 3 have major problems but considering most is Mass Effects ending, I would go with Mass Effect first

And then play Bioshock afterwards if you plan to binge all 3 games in a row. Since Infinite is a mess and despite some good ideas manages to be a shadow of the series and no wonder it was the game that bankrupted the studio and showed just how destructive Ken Levine can be.

I didn't get to play Bioshock 2 and don't really have much interest. Even people who've played it don't sound very enthusiastic about it. It's usually Bioshock 1 & Infinite they talk about.

My vote then goes to Mass Effect trilogy.

I prefer the Mass Effect series, but both are great. You should probably start with Bioshock as the series is much faster to complete. A single Mass Effect game playthrough could easily take you 50 hours, and if you are hooked, you will want to replay it just to try another outcome. Play it on a high difficulty level for much more intense and enjoyable combat.

Mass Effect, pretty easily.

Bioshock 1 had boring combat, 2 didn't differentiate itself from 1 enough, and Infinite had pacing and narrative problems (though I probably enjoyed it the most of the 3 games)

I'd take any of the original Mass Effect games over any of the Bioshock games

Speaking to this topic I played and loved ME2. I played about 2 hours of ME3 and got mad at all the changes. Should I swallow my pride and actually play through ME3? Starting to feel like I’m missing out on something.

Bioshock 1

then Mass Effect 1-3

then Bio 2 and Infinite because those don't really need to be played in continuum

Have played ME 1-3 I do have Andromeda just haven't got around to playing it yet.

And

I have only played the original Bioshock and loved it but didn't like what I say from 2 or Infinite so I never bought them.

So in conclusion ME wins hands down.

That's a tough one.

The first Bioshock was disappointing. It had a lot of promise, but it ended up as a heavily watered-down version of System Shock 2, including one of the same plot twists. It also completely fell apart after the big 'golf' moment.

I never played Bioshock 2, and Bioshock Infinite was a massive train wreck of mediocre gameplay and huge plot holes.

Mass Effect 1 was fine, and Mass Effect 2 was pretty good (even if the plot was just filler). I never bothered to play 3.

So...I guest I was less disappointed with the Mass Effect series?

Bioshocks very overhype when it come. Look at magazines with nice pictures. Nice water effects which are very impressive. Take the controller and I think something wrong. Maybe like extra spring inside control stick.

Mass Effect has a nice mix. Nice music. Nice atmosphere. I have this in the collector edition on Xbox 360. So much time though it take to get moving. Feel like Xbox overheat and cant keep up with game sometime. Other mass effect game too much media with less imagination for player imo.

Take your pick

Going to go with Mass Effect trilogy (and it is a trilogy) because I rate every single game (1 against 1, 2 against 2, 3 against 3) better. I do like every single game in this scenario but for some reason the Bioshock games had very little replay value and I always felt like there should have been more RPG to it. I wanted to see Rapture before the fall.

Let me see..

Mass Effect 1 was good.
Mass Effect 2 was.. OK.
Mass Effect 3 was bleh.

BioShock 1 was good.
BioShock 2 was good.
BioShock Infinite sucked donkey balls.

Ultimately, I'll give it to BioShock, despite Infinite being one of the worst AAA games I've regretfully played. FPS > TPS/RPG for me.
