Biggest flippoy flop of the year?

Personally, Death Stranding. I wasn't expecting much, and I was still disappointed. Anthem also ranks high as well, but Bioware has been on the ropes for a while.

My ****ing god, how do you screw up a game where you're essentially Iron Man? How do you get Bioware to fail so completely? How do you fail to make a Destiny clone successful when the recipe is staring you in the face?

I enjoyed Anthem despite the hate.

Shenmue 3 looks EXACTLY like what it promoted itself to be, an old subpar game with a strange following.

Ancestors was barely on anyone's radar.

Death Stranding turned out to be the pretentious conceptual game art nonsense that I expected it to be. The only reason we are talking about it is because of name recognition.

Probably Anthem. Death Stranding still looks and sounds like it is an excellent game to me. I never had any hype for Ancestors and haven’t really paid any attention to it to be honest. Shenmue is well, Shenmue and it was more a less a kickstarter project so my expectations of it were very tempered for it from the get go.

DS didn't flop...like at all lol.

Ancestors. Reviewed terribly and I'm pretty sure it sold terribly too. Whether it was highly anticipated or not doesn't change the fact that it's the worst game on that list BY FAR lol

Fallout 76 is still a trainwreck expeccially on pc. Someone released a mod so you can steal another person's entire inventory and it doesn't sound like bethesda can help the affected players.

Shenmue 3.

Long awaited sequel released after 2 decades, having outdated mechanics that doesnot work, didnot conclude the story, no ambitious elements of first 2 games like shop open and close at time due to its indie mini budget game, shallow story and characters.

plus the fact that its tiny indie game but charge full price is beyond me. no wonder its flop in sales.

A 100% expectation kinda removes the flopability.

Sales wise? Probably Control, which is too bad since I really liked it.

@Chutebox: Depends on your definition of a flop. Its been reduced in price greatly, and the sales figures have been poor for such a hyped game.

Death stranding by far, super hyped game that was a total dud.

Despite the lower than expected Metacritic average for Death Stranding , 82 is still great and it delivered on 3 of the 4 key areas a lot of us look at for reception regarding flop or not with a hyped GOTY contender on the level of Death Stranding -

• Metacritic - 82 (Great)
• Gamespot - 9/10 (Superb) - one of the best games of the year
• The Game Awards - GOTY nomination and numerous other nominations (and 3 victories)
• Gotypicks - Currently #1 most GOTY wins , and will likely finish top 5 at worst.

I also look at resetera's GOTY voting , as they usually are pretty good with their top 20 even if I disagree. Death Stranding should probably finish top 10 there somewhere. For an exclusive in a voting poll , that's very good.

If this is what a flop looks like , everything is A-okay. Death Stranding will probably remain in People's minds for many years , with Kojima living rent free ... even by people who will never have even played it. LOL.

Crackdown 3 should have made the list with all of that hype for the multiplayer , the destruction , and the power of the cloud. Gamepass couldn't even save that turd. A lot of people even got hyped for Terry Crews. Yikes.

Anthem. I was expecting a lot coming from Bioware. The previews looked ok too. Then the downgrade...then the game breaking bugs...then the whole game being a hot mess.

You haven't seen any sales figures, because Sony would only release them if they were in the millions. It fell out of the charts within 3 weeks in the UK, and was outsold by Days Gone, and if you're going by score, it stands at a middling 6.8 userscore on meta.

@ulfrinn: Yeah it feels like the media way overhyped Death Stranding, it feels like just an ok game, but Kojima has this legendary status at this point.

Weird how "legendary status" or a high profile doesn't protect games from Shigeru Miyamoto, Shinji Mikami, Peter Molyneux, Richard Garriot, Cliff Blezinski or indeed anyone else from getting bad reviews.

C'mon chute you've read some of the reviews and the scores do not match up with the reviews, there's no way one can say its boring, a slog etc then turn around and give it a 9.5/10, its pure BS.

Lets not forget Kallie's review "its the game humanity needs right now" Utter BS, not only that but GS made a video with Kallie in it saying we don't need to understand the game to enjoy it, excuses before it was released. Oh and lets not forget the game getting a perfect review by a publication because where one of its own was in the game, I think Edge said that the game was so bad that they were not going to publish it review.

I would say Anthem even though I knew it would flop since this is current Bioware.

Still Fallout 76. The articles and videos about this blunder of a game is hilarious. How Bethesda can make 2019 even worst than 2018 amazed me.

But for the vote I choose Anthem because its a 2019 game in line with the topic.

When did this happen? I have seen more folks stating that it would review well because of Kojima obsession.

Both Shenmue 3 and Death Stranding don't really belong on the flop list.

If it were a MS game it would have gotten 5's & 6's across the board.
