Bf 2042 beta starts disastrously.

There’s only a couple of games I’m genuinely looking forward to…and bf 2042 is one of them. Having put more than 800 hours into bf4, I broke a personal rule and preordered.

The beta started 20 mins ago, and twitter is awash with frustrated gamers who are getting multiple errors when trying to play.

I was getting a screen telling me I needed either Eaplay or a preorder to play - I have both. When I got passed that I’m just seeing “unknown error” when trying to start a game or “couldn’t find a server”.

EA screwed the bf4 launch up, and basically ended bf5 even before the launch….shame to see things haven’t changed.

Peoples opinions on Twatter means literally nothing, regardless of what is said.

Wait a second, is the beta for those who pre ordered? I REALLY want to play this on the ps5. I haven't played BF in so long (since bf4), that i will play this even if its trash.

@hardwenzen: I believe the beta is playable for pre-orders, EA Play or gamepass subscribers. You get EA Play with the sub for gamepass, as I've understood.

PS5? Man, get a real system.

I still don't have a gpu. You think i want to play BF on a ps5 lul? I am kinda curious to see on how crazy the aim assist is, tho.

@hardwenzen: Sell your Demons Souls box and get one? What more is there to play on that thing? GoW:R in who the hell knows when? Just play that shit through PSN on your PC later or some shit.

I have money for the gpu, but its impossible to buy, and i am not paying a cent to a scalper. And no way in shit am i streaming GoW2. That thing will be the juiciest playthrough in forever. Not ruining it.

Still? I haven't stayed updated as I don't need a gpu myself.. Man, that sucks.

I have over 800 hours in Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V, WW1 and WW2 were great settings.

And for all its faults (and there were many) I still enjoyed BF V at its core.

When DICE tried, they succeeded. The new guns were great, the new settings were awesome. I still like playing a paratrooper with my friends on operation Mercury.

When DICE caved in, they failed. The constant TTK changes, the whacky elites that have no place in a WW2 game (what are Japanese soldiers doing on the western front for Pete's sake?). Silly excuses. Don't buy the game.

Nah, after playing RE8 with real shitty performance in 1440p, the 1070 had to go, and for $600CAD, it was a nobrainer sell. Its in these times that the ps5 is a real savior.

Which card you looking to upgrade to?

3060ti or the 3070. Whichever i find first is the one i'll get. Would prefer a 3070, tho.

Just had a round on conquest with no problems getting a game or disastrous issues. It's alright, preferred Halo though.

Finally got in….and it’s bad. There’s no way this is launching any time soon. I like the big map, but it takes sooo long to run from one objective to another - might put off cod boys though.

The helicopters are awful, as are the planes. So slow.

There’s whole screen tearing, and countless graphical glitches.

Having said that, if it eventually gets fixed I think it will be very popular with those that liked bf4….but wow, it needs a lot of work.

I am watching it on twitch right now, and on high with a 3090, it drops below 60fps and the game looks like shit. Also, maps look empty, like its missing assets or something.

Just checked around here. Apparently you can buy the 3060ti right now from webhallen.com. I have no idea if canadians can buy from there. The price is 7000 kronor for the 3060ti (which is around $1000CAD).

When was the last time you was happy with a game?

We were in 1998. I remember it being a beautiful morning. I woke up, made some coffee, and booted up Banjo Kazooie. What a day.

That is almost twice as expensive, plus the customs will be in the few hundreds for a $1000 item. Have to buy across NA only or get destroyed by customs.

The ref card was supposed to be $550CAD. From EVGA, you could get them in the $620CAD range. A $3070 was $750CAD, and there was one version of a 3070ti for $799CAD. So yea, $1000 is scalper range for a 3060ti.

It's stuttering on my end. Plus I don't think there are any servers in my region. Getting 200ms ping. But I'd say it feels really different. There's really no more classes, and you can be an engineer, or a medic, or whatever.

I never played BF5 anyway, so I dunno if they went away with the class system completely in that game.

Being able to have a med kit with a sniper sounds broken af to me.

Because being able to camp a capture point with infinite healing and long range will be stupid. Probably the first thing i am trying, especially if there is a ohk sniper.

This is giving me flashbacks. Also you can change your sights and stuff on the fly.

@hardwenzen: Healing and ammo acquisition seems different so far. You only get ammo/health per pack once, and you have to wait for your cooldown or you have to run to another one.

BTW, there's AI to fill the server if there aren't enough players.

Is the CD long?

Around 15-20 seconds I think for the medic crate. Ammo is shorter at around 8-10.

Hmm i guess its not op then. And i don't know if everybody is playing on medium/low, but god damn does the game looks like crap or what. Nowhere near graphics king now.

I can imagine. Everything i saw on twitch was almost as chaotic as the "meat grinder" operation metro/operation locker in BF3 and 4. And i dunno if this is what i want from BF. Feels like the maps are too small for 128 players or needs more capture points to spread everyone out.

Err after hearing about a possible another delay is about to happen and if the beta turns out to be a disaster, than go ahead and delay Battlefield 2042 into 2022 if you have to.

I never had connection problems, but the game is rough to say the least. Really janky, buggy and un-optimized. I was driving a vehicle and I fell through the map and had to redeploy. Seriously, WTF?! DICE and EA need to get their shit together. This game is not ready.

Which is why it's being rumor for another delay till 2022 and from what I seen, Battlefield 2042 isn't ready for primetime.

This current beta map is small, yeah.

Tell me about it. Enemies sometimes rubberband visually, and that's where the server I was in was at like 40ms.

Yeah, this is like CP2077 levels of broken.

It's probably not so bad it's just that the Halo beta was so good everyone is now spoiled. lol :P

@hardwenzen: The map size was fine. Huge. Bigger than anything yet on bf, and it really is spread out. In fact map size was the best thing about the beta. There’s a huge tunnel going under the map, loads of big vertical buildings and complexes….but this game isn’t launching in 2021.

Not surprising, just delay it until it's ready. BFV was disappointing don't force launch it and fix it as you go. Will be better sales too if they delay it. Less competition with Halo/Cod this holiday season

Wow, after playing for four hours, I just realized this is arcadey AF. Like it's too much like COD. Guns are freaking laser beams and the movement is so, so fast.

Nope, my hype died now. Not getting this game unless it's super cheap or free.

Anyway, from what I've seen of beta footage, it looks like an insane amount of fun. I'm really looking forward to it.

Ooof, that's a bummer. I preferred the "realism" (emphasis on the quotation marks) of BF to the arcade nonsense of COD.

Hopefully they will make some changes before final release but I doubt it at this point. The BF open-betas have always been like one last bug testing phase, they generally keep the game as it is otherwise.
