Skyrim PSVR: 11/17/17

Doom PSVR: 12/1/17

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/skyrim-fallout-4-and-doom-vr-editions-dated/1100-6452773/

These are two HUGE wins for the PSVR. All we needed were official release dates, and now we have them. Can't wait to live inside of this little (not so little) corner of Tamriel. Skyrim PSVR is far and away my most anticipated game for this year. For now, it is exclusive to PSVR (that will change when it comes to the Vive next year); Doom VFR is releasing simultaneously on PSVR and Vive. Skyrim VR includes the entire game, along with all DLC. Doom VFR, as far as I understand, is something of a continuation of DOOM 2016. We'll see what that's all about. The trailers/gameplay vids so far look awesome. Gore, gore and more gore. And lots of heavy metal. I like.

Nice. I want to actually walk through the province of Skyrim. That is going to be unreal. This holiday season is going to be murder, so many games it's ridiculous, a pricey console- 2017 is insane for gaming.

@KBFloYd: It's an early build, taken from E3 on a huge screen. Plus you're seeing an output from a headset, so the visuals get distorted. It will look different inside of the headset. This is a common issue with showing VR games.

The movement in Doom is absolutely the dumbest shit ever. Skyrim looks cool though.

@Xabiss: There are supposed to be various forms of movement available in the final build for Doom. Including full free locomotion.

Well I am glad to hear that because point and click movement in a Doom game is blasphemy!

I wish this was a free patch instead of a brand new game. Seems like a huge rip off.

I already bought Skyrim for PS3 and PS4. I shouldn't have to buy it a 3rd time.

It's funny because cows are paying for what is the same game with an extra mode attached, and a mode where one has to hold onto what is commonly referred to here as dildos, talk about getting screwe...I mean milked :P

At least cows are not paying $500 for a console which main attraction is that it plays last and last last gen games. Even their new games like Crackdown 3 look last gen.

REKT lol, let me show you REKT.

Cows are paying for a PRO + PSVR to play VR at it's best which is more than what a Scorpio costs, and yeah playing last gen games are bad, yet you guys are willing to pay full price for a last gen game with what is basically a new mode, oh and then there's this little game from more than just last gen.

That's how you say

PS...It will also play current gen games better than any other console, but hey we don't talk about that right lol

Still don't believe in VR, but it's good for the system and people that have it. A shame these are old games, and Skyrim really didn't age well, but better than nothing I guess

Skyrim is pretty rough on PSVR

Summary...

  • "The PSVR demo of Skyrim that I played at Gamescom isn't outright bad; it's just, in my opinion, the worst way to play."
  • "I should note that the game is playable with a DualShock 4"
  • "You have to get to the end of a tunnel, stop, pivot, and teleport again. In essence, the system slows everything down, and Skyrim isn't a game that's designed to be played slowly."
  • "Around 50% of the time my right hand, with my sword, was floating in the air several feet away from me."
  • "Seeing a dragon fly overhead actually scared me a little (and it never has while playing Skyrim any other way), just because it's presence felt like an invasion of space."
  • "Unfortunately, for the most part, it's just slow and tedious, and I don't think I'd want to play it in VR for much more than 15 minutes at a time."

Some comments...

"I rather just play portable on my Switch"

"Why PSVR? Skyrim and VR runs best on PC. PSVR is your problem right there."

"Everything is poop on PSVR."

"Nah it's pretty good. Re7, batman, and farpoint are great."

"Nonsense. Resident Evil did it and it worked fine. Why do devs still claim it can't be done?"

This last one made me laugh...lol.

"A bethesda game that's pretty rough? Ummm, water is wet???"

Anyways, figured I'd post this here since this is about Skyrim on PSVR just to rustle some jimmies...lol. Still not a fan of VR, maybe in the far future. If anything, I wouldn't mind trying out Vive on PC one day. Seems to be the best one out there. PSVR offers value over quality.

The author's entire viewpoint of the game being "rough" in VR is based on using the move controllers, and how that limits motion. You can use the dualshock controller, too, and it allows you full, normal movement. This kind of article writing is ridiculous, and it is rampant lately with VR articles. The author did not use the dualshock, and so experienced half of what is possible to experience, and then states the game is "rough". The "roughness" would disappear at once with use of a normal controller, which will be available at launch. Irresponsible journalism, to say the least.

See my reply to @ryu_silveira. The author of the article did not even play the game with a dualshock controller; they used the move controllers, which limit motion. The dualshock offers full, free motion. The entire judgment of the game being "rough" was based on using the move controllers. Using the dualshock eliminates snap turning, offering smooth motion. The author has a skewed view of the game.

Did Bethesda mention why Doom was removed from the X1X enhanced list?

IGN just had an article explaining that Skyrim in VR was rough all around.

Yup, exactly.

One of the main reasons I don't trust IGN previews and reviews. For all the claiming to be a professional review site they seem to hire a lot of noobs and dumb people to review and preview games. I haven't even played the game yet and I know Move Controllers would be the worst possible way to play it. Anyone with VR experience would recommend using a dualshock to play it based on the footage we've seen.

Yeah, the article is complete BS. If the author actually played the game the way it is meant to be played, the way 99.9% of people will play it in VR, the "roughness" would not be a factor. The article even praises the game left and right, despite having a clickbait title. Annoying.

Anyway. You're absolutely right. Anyone that has spent a lot of time in VR knows that dualshock is the way to go. The move controllers are fine and all, but at the end of the day they're just a novelty. Nothing beats a normal controller in your hands, especially for a huge RPG you're going to be spending hundreds of hours playing. And that is exactly why Bethesda is including dualshock support.
