Sadly, a bunch of console people shall vote Silent Hill 2 because a Japanese musician man bangs drums and makes car horn noises.

We all know, deep inside, it's System Shock 2.

Penumbra: Black Plague and Amnesia: The Dark Descent are the two scariest games I've played.

System Shock 2 is a better game than those but its not as terrifying, more tense.

FNAF made me doodie myself the most. Jump scares get my heart racing more than atmospheric horror. Although I prefer the gameplay in a less jump scare orientated title.

None of those titles are as scary as courage the cowardly dog.

Outlast definitely out of this list here. Was a great game and kept me on edge the whole ride through it, but some of it was predictable.

I'm excited for Outlast 2 to come out, I'll definitely spend my nights playing that

System Shock 2 is best horror game and better game than Silent Hill 2, which comes second on my list of top horror games.

I find the lack of Eternal Darkness and Fatal Frame II disturbing.

You totally left out the first Dead Space game, that game was a good horror game I played during the early last-gen and it's still fun to play today's standards. Even Dead Space 2 is good for that matter.

Clive Barker's Undying. But out of that list...I'd have to go with System Shock 2

Dead Space trilogy is solid. One of the best and most memorable games of last gen IMO.

Silent Hill 2 > System Shock 2. Never counted system shock as a horror game.

Only Dead Space 3 was the boring game. Once you get to the Ice Planet, it becomes very boring and very less scary due to not being in Space. The only good part about that game is the customization weapons, that's about it.

When it comes to pure horror, absolutely nothing comes close to Amnesia.

Resident Evil REmake and Shock 2 are excellent survival-horror titles that represent the best of their respective genres, but Amnesia is the first time I ever bitched out at finishing a horror game.

Fracture's games are scarier, Silent Hill 2 is one of gamings greatest achievements though. It's a much better narrative than what System Shock 2 (**** outside of maybe 3 stories, it damn near might be gamings best narrative) has to offer, it's far more tense, it's legit something only a game can convey, and it's mechanics lend themselves much better to what I expect out of a survival horror. System Shock 2 is legit fantastic, but you can get pretty fucking beast by the end of that game. And it's about as scary as watching goosebumps.

IMO problem with Dead Space is it's very much all been done before. It deserves credit for it's excellent control scheme, sound design and immersive UI - but almost every aspect is old hat, proficient - but old hat.

System Shock 1 was doing this shit in 1994.

You left of Resident Evil Remake and Eternal Darkness.

Out of the ones you listed I'd say Outlast was the scariest that I've played.

Alien Isolation is getting closer and closer to the top of my "buy it next" list so I'm looking forward to experiencing that in the next year or so.

Dead Space is fantastic. It is very immersive game thanks to stunning sound effects and atmosphere. Gameplay is also great and Isaac is likeable character in DS2 and 3.

The derivative nature of that game is whatever, the presentation is mostly exceptional in that game. It's how fucking monotonous the gameplay is. It's beyond routine and repetitive, when it's so blatantly worshipping the alter that is Resident Evil 4's gameplay, difference is RE4 actually mixes it up a lot, like a lot through out the entire experience. Doesn't help that the whole dismembering thing, is something Binary Domain does a lot better with how it handled shooting robots apart, and giving a new twist to headshots.

But that's the difference between the cool ass dude that is the Yakuza dude versus the triple A tripe factory that took The Divine Comedy and turned it into God of fucking War.

Eternal Darkness, Silent Hill 2, and Dead Space are some of my favorite games of all time. Horror games just make great games.

Honorable mentions: Silent Hill 3, Outlast, and F.E.A.R

Penumbra overture and black plague are my favourite horror games, love the atmosphere and the shitty clumsy combat that makes encounters terrifying and motivates you to avoid conflict.

Alien Isolation and Outlast do this pretty well too.

Ehh, it's hard to choose favorites....Silent Hill 2 & 3 are my favorites from the franchise, but 1 was also quite good. I'm a huge Dead Space fan and I like all 3, but the 2nd is my favorite, followed closely by the first. Outlast was a terryfying game for me and Alien Isolation I really enjoyed as well. Sorry I can't choose favorites.

Of those listed that I've played, I'd say Alien: Isolation because I'm just a huge Alien(s) fan and this game did justice to the franchise.

Siren: Blood Curse was among one of my favorite survival-horrors of last gen (after the Dead Space series). I was a fan since it released, it got shat on in North America though not releasing on disc, I splurged for it digitally though. Shame the 2nd game on PS2 never released either and there was no digital to fill the void then. Anyhow, loved this game. Shame it was offered recently on PS+ and nobody has been saying good things about it, have people moved on paste PS3 already?
