https://www.reddit.com/r/XboxSeriesX/comments/insfsg/fyi_best_buy_has_increased_the_elite_series_2/

The elite series 2 only comes with only a 90-day warranty from Microsoft which is pitiful short for 180 dollar product.

According to a redditor he was having issues with his elite series 2 he went back into the store to get an extended warranty on the elite 2 and its now $60 instead of $40 for 2 years.

People are having issues with this thing, stuff is breaking, its 180 dollars, this thing should be a tank at that price point and unbreakable. This isn't right. That's $240 for this thing if you want 2 year long warranty now to have peace of mind.

People are saying the price increased because people were bringing in back in broken and its not as sturdy.

Is this really the best controller ever? A 90-day warranty that's all your backing it up with? It's supposed to be premium product put a year on it for free.

It's $180 actually. Paying that much for a controller is laughable.

Yes, a 90-day warranty is sad... Should be at minimum a year. That being said, taking a price-hike for a 3rd-party supplier and spinning that against MS is just really sad. Hardware is destined to fail... If this is done negligently or maliciously, a company needs to be held accountable... So, what does this have to do with MS?

Your ceaseless concern for Xbox fans is admirable.

Yeah I have been hearing about issues though. Mainly random disconnects.

I've had mine since early April, use it almost daily with my PC. Still the best controller I've owned, no issues yet.

Should I PM you if I start having issues?

Sweet. I’ve been wanting to get one myself but I just didn’t right about getting one. It felt like I wasn’t paying enough for it. 😛

Seriously though, yeah 90 days isn’t long enough of a warranty. It should probably be like a year or something.

Just looked, and yeah, warranties cover 2 and 3 years. This is Canada, but US has it for $60 per 2 years. It's also accidental, and not for hardware failures.

No I'm not getting one cause I heard bad things about it. I like the way the dual shock 4 feels better to me than xb1 anyway and it came with my PS4 so I save a lot of money.

You shouldn't need a warranty when buying products made by reputable companies. Microsoft is known for making fault hardware. My OG Xbox disc drived failed and my 360 got RROD.

Never had any problems with Sony, Nintendo, Apple, Samsung, etc.

It's an accidental plan, and doesn't cover manufacturer damage from what I can see. It's to the bottom-right.

Dual Shock 4 comes with a one year warranty. MS must not be too confident about their product.

Thanks, man. Had no plans on dropping close to $200 for a controller, but that helps solidify the decision lol. I look forward to my PS5 controller with super duper haptic feedback and flashing lights.

@ProtossRushXIt's an accidental warranty, from what can be seen, and BestBuy is an independent seller. BB's warranty has nothing to do with MS. This thread means nothing more than BB wanting to bank more money. Are other retailers following this action?

Yeah, I paid about 180 for my mouse and keyboard and I've had my keyboard for longer than 2 years now. This Corsair keyboard is a tank. The last Logitech mouse I had also lasted over 8 years, and I assume this one will go at least 6 or more.

Those elite controllers are cool, but the price is just insane.

It’s obvious that third party warranty was getting so many repair requests they had to up the fee. It has everything to do with MS lemdy

Completely anecdotal, but the irony here is that the only controller I've had fail on me (twice) this gen, was the DS4. 😂

Don't make me get Tormentos on the job, I have a long standing preference for Dualshock controllers and PS in general on this board. Would prefer an Elite Dualshock if they made one.

Just is what it is.

Extended warranties are for suckers. They are deliberately written to make it extremely easy for stores to weasel out of honoring them even though the employees will lie to your face and say, "You could smash this with a hammer, and we'll give you a brand new one, no questions asked."

If you do manage to talk them into giving you a replacement, it will almost always be a "reconditioned" or open-box item, and your extended warranty is done no matter how much time might be left on it, because the store will consider its obligation fulfilled. Of course they will happily sell you another extended warranty.

So does the old Curtis Mathis TV downstairs, the one what's the size of Earth. And my Grandmas old Frigidaire, though we have occasionally had to replace the rubber belts.

It can be done, it's just not profitable to sell a customer something that's going to last forever. The longest-burning light bulbs were some of the first ever made, so what do you think happened there?

@ConanTheStoner: The only problems I ever have with Sony controllers are the analog sticks wearing out, but that's going to happen when you put in ungodly amounts of play time with FPS. Actually I rarely have issues with any controllers overall, worst one I've seen is my sons joy cons, they started to drift a few months after he got it.

Yeah, 90 days is weak. Maybe it makes no difference though?

Not sure about US/Canadian law, but extended warranty plans are a scam in the UK and EU. In almost all cases, you're covered by consumer law with the retailer for well beyond the plan period anyway. It's the same for manufacturers' guarantees, where you're requested to fill out a little slip or register your product online at purchase to be elligible for some arbitary period determined by the manufacturer - the implication being that failure to do so makes any replacement issues the customer's problem. Again, you're already covered by statutory law for most faults.

Of course, you have to buy somewhere reputable if you want to make any headway arguing your case in the first place...

For sure man, it's definitely anecdotal. I usually have good luck with this stuff too.

Last gen wore out a DS3 analog, but that's because Metal Gear Online 2 had this horrible "wiggle the stick" mechanic to wake up faster from being knocked unconscious.

This gen, just terrible luck lol. Had the right trigger fall out of my DS4 when playing Bayo on PC. Bought a replacement, not too much later the battery stopped holding a charge.

These controllers are supposed to be cheaply made garbage. Of course the class action lawsuit these things are facing flew under the radar because MS has a vice grip over the tech press now when it comes to negative news. MS testing to see if their sheepish fanbase would pay as much for a controller as a console is the ultimate litmus test for gullibility.
