Seems the long awaited Bayonetta port on PC has sold a well deserved 170,000+ units on steam. According to SEGA, they're thrilled with that sales performance. It's unconfirmed that @ConanTheStoner may be responsible for 1000 of those to give away to good little boys and girls on Dec 25th.

Old game is old, but also still one of the best action games around. And being able to play it at a rock solid 60FPS in whatever resolution you can manage really does enhance the game to the smoothness it always deserved. Vanquish comes out tomorrow and deserves to do at least as good.

To SW this up, I guess only the #PCMR actually buys the great games they hype and port beg for a decade. The one true shepherds.

Discuss.

Hoping they port over the PS2 Shinobi titles.

Alternatively the 3DS title would be welcomed.

I'm glad it did well and hope the same can be said for Vanquish a few months from now. I would like to see Binary Domain(not Platinum but Sega published) finally get some attention as well but it's already on PC. It was better than Mass Effect in ways and had potential, would've liked to see it continue.

You should be close(I'd ask where you're at but don't want to derail the thread), I ended at 106 hours.

Yes please. I heard Sega lost the source code for Saga so that one is very unlikely though.

I'm still holding out hope that one day SEGA will just make a Saturn emulator, or that they'll put in the effort to either reverse engineer Saga, or preferably recreate it from the ground up. So it could still happen even without the source code, but yeah, it's unlikely due to how little they probably think it'd end up selling anyway.

Dude, I'm happy the game is selling well but dont even dare compare both situations... Bayonetta is being sold on PC for $20 AFTER earning fame and the "cult game" status. It was being sold for $60 on consoles without any fame whatsoever at the time of its release. Even so, it sold 1.21 million copies on PS3, ya know, the completely butchered version. The PS3 is actually the platform where the game has the highest number of copies sold. Go figure...

Nice. I'm not a fan of hack and slash, so I didn't get it, but I'm glad to see that it's doing well. Only creates more demand for quality PC ports if they are successful.

I did pre-order Vanquish, so I'm hoping that's a solid PC port, too.

Always nice to see more people enjoying a great game. I just want a Bayonetta 3, Vanquish 2, and making the first Vanquish backwards compatible on the Xbox One would be a nice bonus as well.

Sadly we're unlikely to ever see Bayonetta 2 on PC (at least anytime soon), which is the better of the two. But at least it provides motivation for the possibility for Platinum to produce Bayonetta 3.

Looking forward to Vanquish. I only ever played the demo, which I enjoyed (despite it being loud, stupid, and over-the-top).

Yeah any of those scenarios seems like it would require too much effort for what Sega would expect to get out of it, unfortunately.

I feel it's arguable. Both games are so damn great.

If we're just comparing the raw combat system, Bayo 1 gets it. Which is pretty fucking important since the games are almost purely about kicking ass. Though it's not like Bayo 2 is far behind.

For a while I thought Bayo 2 had the better weapons. And I still do, but only by a very narrow gap. As a matter of fact, it could just depend on which weapon types you favor.

Where I do give Bayo 2 the edge is it's consistency across chapters. I pretty much enjoy them all, while Bayo 1 has some fly-over chapters that I'm not too fond of.

Both games are fucking ace, I think if anything Bayo 1 would be the go-to game for the purist for the combat alone.

@ConanTheStoner: The combat indeed feels better in the first game. I think even the enemy designs are a bit better in the first game as well. Some of the enemies and bosses in Bayonetta 2 are a chore to fight on the highest difficulty not to mention that the score system makes way less sense to me in Bayonetta 2 than in the original.

Yeah I really hate how some of the humanoid bosses in Bayo 2 can just cancel out of anything you do and they do it so damn liberally. The Lumen Sage fights can be so damn fun, but it's frustrating when he phases out of every combo string you start.

@Basinboy: Bayonetta 2 while excellent is only better on an initial play through. When it comes down to depth, player expression, difficulty, and all that jazz Bayonetta is winning by a good margin.

SEGA have been having an excellent year this year. Yakuza 0, Puyo Puyo Tetris (also developed by Sonic Team), Persona 5 and ports for both Bayonetta and Vanquish to PC. They have really proven themselves as a good publisher this year.

They also have Sonic Forces and Sonic Mania to release which look like they will please the ever fickle Sonic fanbase, which is great too and I'm going to give them a try. (Even if I'm more of a Mario man, myself. :P )

Out of the Platinum Games' titles I've played (and loved) Mad World is the only one I didn't like.

The slow way in which combat and racking up a score takes place could be seen as methodical but I felt it was more slow and simply unexciting. The game-feel isn't there, the core mechanics are just not fun and therefore racking up points and constructing more elaborate ways to dispatch of enemies, while a cool concept, simply wasn't fun to do because the core mechanics were just... well... boring to me. It's too slow, angular and in much more need of some kinetics to facilitate the amount of time spent exploring the level, dragging enemies around with you and playing with the environment.

Core and fundamental tools like throwing enemies and dragging enemies around was too slow and clunky. It would have been fun if you retained the same level of pace when running without enemies as you do with enemies. Contextualize it by having Jack literally drag a flailing body around behind him; keep it so that the kinetics and pace of the game was primary so that searching out all the ways you can add to your score is actually fun to do. It's a cool concept but the mechanics weren't there to facilitate the idea.

That K at the end is clearly a mistake, should be 170 units. PC gamers don't buy games.

I actually enjoyed W101 more than Bayo 2 as well.

I mean I love The Wonderful 101, but I don't know about all that.

My initial position was I liked Bayonetta 2 more than Wonderful 101 until i went for some replays and that switched around. That and the fact that Wonderful 101 is a fresh take on the beat em up adds that new car smell which certainly helps. Shame about some of the dumb things in Wonderful 101 like having to buy unite guts and unite spring.
