Battlefield V DLSS does not work without enabling DXR (blurry as fuk too)

I just tried the new BFV patch and you can not enable DLSS without having DXR on. So, those who were looking for a performance boost from DLSS with rasterization only are basically fucked. While DLSS is definitely useful for improving performance with DXR enabled (frame rate killer), it should be independent and offer a performance boost for regular rendering too.

Is there any technical reason for this limitation?

Update: I tried playing with DXR on and DLSS and it did give a noticeable boost in frame rate. However, it is blurry as fuk and looks terrible. So, basically RTX is a complete bust for BFV. Performance with DXR on is unacceptable and when you turn on DLSS it runs better, but looks like shit. Wow, they really fucked up.

Not sure what their reasoning is as other games that do not support ray tracing have DLSS support.

Maybe DLSS needs to be on for a while for the deep learning to get a grasp of the AA quality?

Blurry AA is yuck, might as well be running with FXAA on then, ew !

It is supposed to work from the get go. Most of the deep learning stuff happens on Nvidia's super computer servers and then results are built into the drivers. At least that is what I recall from their conference. Either way, it looks like shit and I would not tolerate a learning period for the visuals to improve. I have already disabled both DLSS and DXR. Shit features.

At least you get a performance boost from your RTX2080ti, Battlefield is absolutely spectacular when played at 120fps ^^

The way you explain it, there should be a driver update?

DLSS is a dud. It performs better because it looks worse. If I didn't care about that, I'd just use some cheap post processing AA instead. Use DXR instead.

Official vid.

But I don't see the point in looking at AA solutions through compressed images or vids, since you'd need to see this yourself to see what is up.

They claim that DLSS will look better as it gets trained (apparently not "complete" yet). As it stands, it isn't worth it.

I'm more disappointed that you can't use DLSS on 1440p with RTX 2080 Ti. I can't test it even if I wanted to. Very silly after all this time.

Only bright side is that metro's dxr performance numbers are looking good.

I will take some screenshots later tonight when I am at home. Only have GTX 1070 in my laptop with no RTX.

Post processing a low res image makes it blurry who would have thought...

But Nvidia got the sale and that's all that matters in the end.

DLSS is broken in Battlefield, but it is a great feature overall and IS NOT blurry.

In FFXV it is great, Gamers Nexus and Digital Foundry were impressed with it as well.

It wasnt implemented properly in BF which is why they are trying to fix it.

More games need to use DLSS and they should allow at 1440p for those who want 144hz

Here are some comparison shots I made. First is DXR and second is DXR+DLSS. You can see the performance boost, but with the terrible blur. Make sure to click on the images or open them in new tabs for full quality.

So wait wait... You buy yourself a nice 1440p or 4K screen to get a sharp image.

Then you buy a RTX card to run games at that resolution, only to activate the newest DLSS technology: and it gives you a blurry upscaled image.

What was the point of DLSS again?

It looks like the purpose of DLSS is to achieve maximum butthurt with RTX owners. They have succeeded in that regard.

For real, I checked out your comparison screenshots, and no way is 20 extra FPS worth that amount of blur.

It just ruins the whole image :/

Having ray tracing on is too much of a performance hit and the added visual benefit does not justify it. DLSS is an epic fail and looks like shit. So, basically I have an RTX card that I am not using any of the RTX features. I said right from the beginning that the RT cores would be a bottleneck and make the RTX cards a waste. The only reason I bought an RTX 2080 Ti is because it is the only card available that gives a good performance boost over my old GTX 1080 Ti. I would have gladly bought a GTX 2080 Ti for cheaper if it was an option. The first gen RTX cards are a ripoff and incapable of delivering the goods.

I was waiting for the next generation of Nvidia cards eagerly, I had money in hand and wanted a new GTX line up.

When they first announced the RTX cards, I just went to my local hardware shop and bought a 1080ti.

I want something that offers performance, performance, performance. I don't see the point in RT cores.

Raytracing may be a cool feature, RT cores may be useful one day. But i'm just not interested in that in the present.
