Award winning pc game that won awards to get expansion

Good news for fans of Lords Or Rings. An official: proper: real expansion pack for the cult hit, mass selling 2+ million hit, multiaward winning GOTY "Guild Wars 2" is apparently receiving an expansion to the award winning hit.

As of yet: details are slim. Chances are though it will be GOTY or at the very least: not Destiny.

Looks like a first full Guild Wars 2 expansion may be on the way - NCSoft has trademarked (via Reddit) Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns.

There's no content detail yet but game developer ArenaNet has an announcement primed for PAX South, Saturday 24th January, starting 4.30pm GMT and lasting until 6pm GMT.

From the PAX South site: "Join ArenaNet president and co-founder Mike O'Brien and Guild Wars 2 game director Colin Johanson for an exclusive sneak peek at what's next in Guild Wars 2 and be among the first to hear how we're setting up a new framework for how an MMO can grow its universe. The Living World was just the beginning."

Guild Wars 1 had a handful of expansions but so far Guild Wars 2 has relied on regular content drops via a Living World plan to enlarge the game, as well as the occasional bumper feature patch.

What could an expansion bring? New professions/classes? New areas? Big new gameplay features? What would you like?

People expect other MMOs to be as long running as World of warcraft but that's not going to happen. Considering that, Guild wars 2 was great imo.

If it's anything like previous expansions it could potentially be stand alone. Although: with a different structure such as that of Guild Wars 2, I don't see how.

Luckily I've done good over the years to stay clear of MMOs, I fear if I did get into them I'd lack the self control to keep it from consuming my life and all the precious time I spend playing other games. I don't plan to start now.

MMO's (and in general) video games are great for low achievers and social outcasts.

When you look like a fat pig IRL: in an MMO you can be a beautiful elf with massive bongo's.

An Expansion for this started to become a Half Life 3 joke within MMO circles. GW2 probably needed one between the two living story seasons, Better late than never.

I dont know what to expect or what I want, Since all I really do in the game is WvW/sPvP. But I know what I dont want: A new tier of gear quality and an increased level cap.

I waited 2 years to play something new in that game, they haven't even gave us a new pvp game mode. F*ck gw2.

Based on the name it's going to be set in Maguuma Jungle. Why can't we go to some place new like Cantha, or Elona, or the Far Shiverpeaks, or the Crystal Desert?

I stopped caring about the Living Story shit 3 chapters in. A brand new, fully fleshed out expansion with new areas would probably get me back in for a couple of months.

For a game that won awards....I sure have heard a good amount of negative about it.

Guild wars 2 Certainly has it's flaws but it's a game world i just love being in and one i actually enjoy exploring,i'm not an end game kind of person with MMO's and this one holds my attention without it.

Looking forward to this.

First of all. This is a rumor. Very probable though, but jsut a rumor.

Second Guild Wars 2 or Good, pick one. Because GUild Wars 2 sure as hell is not a good game. One of the worst mmorpgs I have ever played.

I hope the game is set in Cantha or Elona or an entirely new region, Tyria was always the blandest of the 3 contintents in GW1. I also hope it adds more diversity to skills, to help diversify classes a bit. Right now the classes feel very samey. If that is too much, how about adding a new class that seperates it from the norm.

@uninspiredcup: How many times can someone mention award winning in a single sentence? I think you win the award for that.

That paragraph made me cross eyed.

The best MMO so far. These devs are better than 99% out there at making MMO's (AND the balls to do things differently). I'm in love with Everquest Next's artstyle but I worry about that game. I don't doubt that this expansion will be pretty great and interesting.

The character creation and customization, the combat, the questing system, the way the story worked, and the events were some of the best in any MMO. The end content was there but flawed. That goes for every MMO though. You can change your name for a fee, something 90% of MMO's won't let you do. You have no online fee. There are more reasons to explore the map than any other MMO. The classes had some of the more interesting skills for an MMO and tended to have multiple viable builds unlike for example WOW. You guys don't recognise talent. Most criticism makes no damn sense. You do get way more powerful as you level, even if you are 'downleveled' in starter area's so that you can still play with friends regardless of their level and it never becomes so boring that you can completely ignore your health and surroundings.

Large group combat was chaotic and where things fell apart. Suddenly the extremely effective skills in small combat, become just unmanageable and unnoticeable. There is so much moving on screen that you can't see who did what and what the enemy is doing. I know that is an important part of an MMO too, but they did so many things right that I feel that they can solve it in a next game. The criticism of 'the quests were boring' is funny too, because they were but so are the quests of every MMO out there. At least in the world of GW2 things would move around and happen without everyone getting into 10 different phases or instances.

GW2 was pretty damn good.

• WvW is something other than a shitty zerg
• WvW comes anywhere close to the quality of Dark Age of Camelot
• they have some decent customizability of the UI
• PvE actually offers decent rewards
• they dont punish you for doing the only thing you can do in PvE, Grind.
• they design decent dungeons and boss fights
• rewards dont come from RNG
• they actually come close to putting out content at a rate that is equal to or rivals any other mmorpg during the same timeframe
• better doesnt mean uglier, exotic weapons in GW2 almost always look too tryhard
• you dont have to pay to access content that you cannot access because you didnt log in on the right week
• combat isnt excessively spammy
• they remove the Mary Salad race from the game, retcon preferably and fire whoever came up with that sad excuse for a race

To be fair the game itself I heard is great....I heard for what it's suppose to be, an MMO, it sucks bc there is no end game content.

Plenty of people enjoy the game, alot of positive will be said here and other places too. People go, come back due to the little overhead and find its relevant appeal in the busy gaming market. Let's face it: No matter what the game or community (in terms of WvW) does, even rectifying alot of those bullet points. You're never gonna enjoy or come back to the game despite the hundereds of hours and Marathon game binges that you put into the game.

It sounds like there are other options available if you want an MMO. Wildstar and ArcheAge looks to be up your alley just by looking at those bulletpoints.

The real question is, why would one look for other options to become an interactive servant? you know?

I spent time going to level cap, after I hit the level cap, I could barely force myself to play the game and even then, the only thing that made me carry on was "it will get better later, it will get better later", I quit (or took extended breaks) the game roughly 2 times just trying to make myself get 100% map completion. Furthermore, I didnt realize just how fully flaws the game was until the time around christmas. I might end up enjoying the game, if they fix my flaws with it. Especially the godawful support the game has recieved from the developers. Living story and temporary content was the worst feature that I have seen implemented in a video game since Oblivion's level scaling.

WildStar I played, and was bland as hell. And ArcheAge from what I hear suffered from too many flaws, that made me lose interest. Shame, because I was extremely hyped for it. That said, I would rather play those 2 than GW2.
