Well done, well deserved etc...

Control ain't doing so hot all things considered.

Of course, this doesn't include digital which is everyone's favorite go-to excuse for irredeemable failure.

Wreckfest no2? Alrighty then.

Steamgreenlight game as well, which is interesting. Those usually sell a pittance.

Nintendo Switch exclusive Astral Chain tops UK chart

Sold slightly more boxed copies than Control, Man of Medan.

Astral Chain - which, Martin reckons, is very good - has topped the UK physical games chart.

There's not a lot in it - 1500 boxed sales between first place and fourth - though Astral Chain is out on only a single format (Nintendo Switch) whereas the next three games are multiplatform. As ever, this chart does not track digital downloads.

Racing game Wreckfest was second, ahead of The Dark Pictures Anthology's first chapter Man of Medan in third. Control was a couple of hundred copies behind in fourth.

Honestly, it's just nice to see four new games at the top of the chart after a long, quiet summer.

Collection of Mana, another Switch release, made it in at 22nd.

he full top 10 lies below:

  1. Astral Chain
  2. Wreckfest
  3. Man of Medan
  4. Control
  5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  6. Crash Team Racing
  7. Super Mario Maker 2
  8. Marvel's Spider-Man
  9. GTA5
  10. The Division 2

Control at #4 is splendid to hear! Awesome game and kudos to Astral Chain #1 but overall, congratulations to the top 10 winners!

I anticipated Control to take the lead and Astral Chain to NOT chart at all. Surprised...

I'll be playing Astral Chain right after Control. Good to see both doing great.

Wreckfest looks great.

GTA5 keeps going, that's probably the only game ever to consistently chart for the duration of a whole gen. That's just crazy considering it first came out last gen.

Two kart racers on the top ten! Three racing games in total.

No kidding. Usually, Nintendo is to the UK what XBOX is to Japan (most gens, Wii and Switch are exceptions).

That sounds bizarre to me. A Nintendo game that didn't get much worldwide media attention released after the Nintendo voucher system, topping the UK physical release chart. An area in the world of which I didn't even know that they were aware that Nintendo existed, considering their historical charts and podcasts.

Cool though. Very interesting.

It is pretty strange a seemingly-niche Japanese action game exclusive to one console can outsell a multiplat game.

To be fair though, Astral Chain has been my most hyped game of the year since they first announced it during whatever Spring Nintendo Direct they revealed it, and I know it instantly became the most hyped at that very moment for a lot of people. The fact that the game is receiving near universal praise among critics and some calling it GotY, that's a huge boost too.

Studio recognition is another major reason for Astral Chain's success. At this point Platinum Games is becoming a seal-of-quality studio and people that see their logo on any project are instantly interested by what they're doing. Platinum has become a household Japanese dev name at this point due to the consistent quality of their projects.

Control, on the other hand...I'll be perfectly honest, I only just learned of this game's existence this past week when I saw review sources posting their reviews. I literally heard of the game for the first time upon looking at the reviews. Remedy just does not have the track-record that Platinum has right now. Their recent games have either been divisive or straight-up blunders, so they don't really have the brand-recognition or trust Platinum has, and that's probably why it is the way it is.

Why is this a surprise to you now all of a sudden? I been noticing U.K is now accepting Switch loving since it's arrival cause it's a new system. Between U.S & U.K, big western markets are fairly similar nowadays, except in the case of things like sports games, so the UK charts are a good predictor for performance elsewhere.

The point is, the Switch presence is growing in the U.K, as previously seen by Fire Emblem Three Houses being #1 for two weeks in a row, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Maker 2 being evergreens on the top 10 UK charts and the imminent success of Pokemon Sword & Shield, which takes place in the U.K itself.

Anxious to see how well it sells across the globe. Out here it is in very short supply (1 or 2 copies) at many B&M stores.

That's awesome! Thoroughly well deserved. It could overtake Katana Zero as my GOTY.

Hopefully it tops the charts in other countries too.

What the heck is wreckfest? Never heard of the game till now and for it to even chart top 10 surely means this been a weak week. Congrats to all btw.

It's a game that's been on PC for a while. Console warriors finally get a go at it now.

I believe (can't remember) Destuction Derby was one of the games sold as a bundle with the PS1?

Regardless, racing games do tend to be popular in the UK.
