As general platform design goes, Sonic Mania is better than Odyssey

Kinda. The power moons were far easier to get than in past 3d games and all the bosses didn't have a 3 hit limit.Some moons were just sitting there for the grabbing. Definately not better than the galaxy games. But its still a great game in its own right.

That's a complaint that been pretty frequent with Mario: OD, or newer Nintendo games in general... far too easy.

While arguably Sonics bosses are too easy, the level design itself doesn't treat you like an idiot.

@uninspiredcup: I feel like Odyssey is ripping off botw with its 900 power moons but doesn't have enough worlds to spread them out unless there are lots of secret world. It makes me appreciate Galaxy's one star per challenge. In some cases Odyssey's worlds are too small for that many moons. I wouldn't mind if it were harder we have Kirby if we want a beginner platformer

The platforming in Odyssey isn't top notch. Its good but not the best. I can't comment on how much better or worse it is to Mania but Sonic Mania is a Sonic game so I doubt it being better.

Yea it will probably lose regardless.

Sonic Team and Sega's mismanagement have fragmented to the franchise to the point of being a negative connotation, while Marios quality has remained consistently high for decades.

A Sonic game being objectively better is an alien concept to many who'd be unwilling to even entertain the idea.

All Segas fault of course.

2D platformers objectively have better level design than 3D platformers

This is without a doubt.

Because 2D platformers do not have to be realistic and can be without bounds.

I mean who would make a section in real life you could only get through by jumping across two walls ?

When it comes to platforming and paltforming only, Sonic does a better job than Mario.

But Mario is no slouch,

Odyssey is pretty rock solid. No 64 but shames the Galaxy games.

Would a fairer comparison not be between SM and the New Super Mario Bros. titles. Both being 2D nostalgia driven platformers?

Obviously Mania kicks NSMB's arse.

NSMB is terrible compared to Mania, imo.

Mania is great until you hit that fucking water level.

I hate that water level.

Water section/level never bothered me. Those 4 block platforms Chemical Plant Zone that alternate as something of a simple logic puzzle can be quite tense when the suffocating death music kicks in.

Way better than Mario, that has god awful water sections, espcailly in the early games.

Both are awesome and on Equal grounds.
