Technically 2 days ago, but whatever.
What are your fondest memories of this overrated game with a terrible end-boss that standardised X to win gameplay?
Was Freedom Force objectively better?

I loved Asylum as it made me feel like I was in an episode of BTAS. Even though City is probably the better game, I can never decisively rank it over the original.
Apparently best arkham game. it lost magic once they went open world.
I was quite young (not very) when it was released. and its combat blow me away that time. then few years later i realized its combat is dumbed down 1 button.
It's a great game but not my favorite in the series I just hope we get a new Arkham game before this gen ends.
Easily my favorite of the series. The end boss was weak, but when I finally chained a whole room of baddies together at the end of the challenge rooms... Alfred smiled.
The "press X to win" is too reductive imo. I pressed X a lot and would lose... you have to pause in between presses to master the art of Bat-fu!
Love me some Arkham.
I remember the demo hitting the 360, playing the hell out of it over and over, and thinking to myself we've got an incredible game coming down the pipeline, and it didn't disappoint. Say what you will about hitting X to win (which as dimebag667 said is pretty damn reductive); at least it kicked the trend of superhero games typically being dogs**t to the curb and raised the expectations amongst gamers and developers alike to give us better superhero games in the future. Despite its flaws, it was a huge benefit to the genre overall.
Happy (late) anniversary. Just wish we could get a Punisher game like it.
The mechanics are pretty wack, but the pacing n polish carried that game enough to make it entertaining. Shallow game tho, it’s influence was really trash in terms of how many games aped it, and never actually made a good battle system out of it.
Albeit I haven’t played Spider-Man.
The sneaking had good shit in it tho. The enemy behavior in terms of being panicked and enemies going back to back to cover themselves from Batman is a nice touch.

Mad respect to the first great superhero game ever. I loved every game minus the Blackgate 3DS one. My favorite of all time. Number 2 to that is Spiderman ps4.
Asylum was one of the greatest licensed games at its time, and I wouldn't call it overrated. Weak final boss battle or not, this game showed other developers how you create a Batman game. Before that, the last truly great Batman game was Ocean's Batman on the Commodore Amiga all the way back in the 16-bit era.
Asylum also had some stunning voice acting, especially the Joker. It was so cool that I actually composed a Batman tune about 5 years ago with sound samples from the game.
Wrote a blog about the 10th Anniversary a few weeks back my favourite moment was the Scarecrow battle

i enjoyed the adventures of batman and robin on the snes too but yeah batman on the amiga was amazing back in the day.
the arkham games suit a linear asylum style more than the open world of city / knight imo. in a game like that pacing, claustrophobia and thick atmosphere > slow pace, freedom, side missions and collectables.
there were some really cool touches to asylum - the flitting between 3d and 2d(ish) horizontal scroller for the scarecrow bits was slick and stylish. the verticality / stealth mechanics / contextual ai were a really nice surprise and highly polished too. i hoped it was going to influence a new era of enemy ai that increasingly responds (behaviourally) to player actions but seems not many other devs jumped on the bandwagon. i can stealthily take down a whole army of patrolling guards in uncharted 4 and none of them seem to notice their mates are rapidly disappearing.
overall, good game, good times
Damn 10 years. Time goes too fast. The series was and still is the benchmark for superhero games.
The freeflow combat system is probably one of the most influential gaming mechanics of its era.
We have seen many games attempt Arkham-Style Combat, but Arkham Series still was the one who did it best.
Second best Super hero game of all time after Arkham City imo. I loved it.
Arkham City to this day has one of the best group of boss battles I have seen in modern gaming.
What a fantastic game and fantastic series. Rocksteady is king of super hero games.
10 years ago today the Dark Knight was able to shine on video games like he'd never been able to shine prior.
One of the most well done video game series ever.
Second best Super hero game of all time after Arkham City imo. I loved it.
Yup. I liked City way more than Asylum. It really felt like you're free to roam Gotham City and zip around like The Bats himself lol

I'm glad you didn't shit on Arkham Origins, it's one of the only places outside the comic that done Bane right. They always seems to turn him into a dumbass hulk or henchman, pisses me off.
The game also has a distinct feeling to it even though it is literally re-using assets. Almost Batman Returns.
Story-wise it's an improvement over Rocksteady's stuff, which I feel didn't mature until Arkham Knight where (like Origin) they use the Joker meaningfully.
Meh, Spider-Man is a better superhero then the Cape Crusader :P
LOL all subjective. But Spiderman wouldn't exist if it weren't for Stan Lee & Steve Ditko having grown up reading Superman & Batman
@davillain-: Loool, I actually love both of them :P. Arkham Knight is a terrific game, I skipped PS this gen but I'm prob going to get a PS5 and Spiderman is one of the first games I'll play on it.
Played it when it first came out, wasn't expecting much having read no reviews or anything about the game, plus the reality that most superhero games were average at best, boy was I in for a shock.
Loved it, blew me away. My favourite Batman game.

I actually really liked Arkham Origins. They did a lot of things right and some a little better than Rocksteady. They made some of Batman's moves less wacky, the boss fights were actually fun, and the story was pretty awesome. I think that game inspired Rocksteady to give Batman's Detective Vision the ability to recreate crime scenes. It also encouraged Rocksteady to try harder with Arkham Knight's storytelling.
I loved the game. I remember when I first got it, it didn't click for me immediately, but when it did, I couldn't put it down. As it stands, it's my favorite superhero game, with Spider-Man right behind it. I still enjoy the series overall, even though I think the last game overdid it on the Riddler stuff, but I had fun with it, Bat tank and all.
I think it was one of the last times that I started, and played straight through to the end of a game in one go. I stayed up to 5AM playing it.
It was such a great game and really made me feel like Batman.
When I first heard of Batman Arkham Asylum, I didn't care for it at all. In fact I didn't even pay attention or anything about it and I thought that it would be another boring 3D Batman game.
Then I heard that the demo was good, so I decided that I would try it out and man was the demo awesome. Plus I was very surprised that they had Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill voicing Batman and the Joker in the game.
Eventually I would play the full game and it became the best Batman game and Superhero game for me at the time. The story and gameplay was amazing. The only problem that I had was Batman Arkham Asylum was the boss fights, they weren't very good at all. But overall the game was great.
And then Batman Arkham City came and it was a much better sequel and that became my favorite Batman game after that. Right now I'm playing Arkham Knight for the first time and while I'm having fun, I feel that Arkham City is still better.
Great series. Raised the bar on presentation. If other heroes could get the same amount of care as Batman did then I'd be fans of those other heroes too. I think they should test out making a flash game next or green arrow. I think green arrow might be easier since you can ground the story in logic more than you can with Flash.
Amazing series, loved being The Batman, because that's what I'm like in real life, but they are really constrained by Batman always being in Gotham. Like Spidey games all being in NYC. They sort of have to be, but Spiderman 2 on PS2 came out, and then with every passing game it just felt so over familiar. Got to change things up or move on.
