Are you a fan of the horror elements brought to Metroid Dread?

It's kind of like Alien Isolation with the robot/alien hunting you down at various times in the game.

Really liking the slick movement, sharp graphics and cool art style. The high budget feel gameplay looks head and shoulders above any of the copycat metroidvania sidescrollers and the pseudo 3D segments are a cool addition as well.

Gives me Metroid Fusion vibes, which this game looks like took a lot of inspiration to.

Which is awesome. Only this will have updated everything and better exploration by the looks of it. We may be in for a great one.

Anyone know if the encounters with the robot are scripted? or is it like the Tyrant in RE2 that roams the station and have some scripted encounters?

The robot is only a threat in certain quadrants of the game. Events are not scripted. He is just very intelligent AI. You can go invisible, parry and even kill him but there is more than one of him roaming the world. Your goal in this game is to explore and find ways to escape the dangerous surroundings.

Hollow knight shits all over this.

Hollow Knight is a great indie metroidvania, but a cheap janky indie game compared to this and it's sublime gameplay, and crisp visuals, gameplay and art style.

One does not simply out metroidvania Metroid. Can't beat the real thing.

I thought Samus Returns gameplay was sublime as did most critics with it having an 85 metacritic score, but the main thing I disliked about Returns was the counter move being a stand-your-ground move only, making the fights inherently repetitive and drawn out, so being able to counter while on the move looks to have already fixed that from what I can tell.

Add to that the new slide ability, and this game feels like it's following up on all the action-oriented potential of SR and actually making it work, and I'm here for it.

Nintendo is working closely with Mercury Steam on this. It's going to be great.

A 2D side-scroller is not scary. At all.

I don't find any video game scary, but they are tense when you have some near invinsible beast hunting you down.

This game is meant to evoke a feeling of isolation and dread.

Being a sidescroller, or fully 3D has nothing to do with it.

The older 2D Metroids feel too clunky to me. I'm more into the slick combat and horror elements in Dread mixed with exploration but to each their own.

I'm playing Doom Eternal DLC right now.

One thing about the Bethesda buyout is that Doom Eternal is better than any Playstation exclusive, maybe tied with Bloodborne, but Sony never actually made Bloodborne, From did.

Eternal has nothing to do with Horror. And nothing from Bethesda will ever get to the Bloodborne quality.

I never said it was a survival horror game, or anything about it being a horror game, but now that you bring it up the game is hell fighting demons so it definitely has horror elements.

More importantly, the gameplay in it is better than anything I've played from Sony.

Yes, I thought metroid fusion did a amazing job with horror elements. The main bad guy was amazing, it was hide and seem horror before it was eveb popular.

Honestly I am not sure I care about whatever is being asked, this games visuals look like some shit indie game, not the cool indies that celebrate the retro classic pixel art of older games, just cheap 3D. Can't believe people think this looks cool yet Metroid Other M gets universally shit on, and that's the one that did great job of fusing the 2D and 3D and cinematic the best.

Most of the people hating on this game here are hardcore fanboys who bash everything Nintendo.

It's not very divisive. It is the highest preordered game of E3 and will go on to do over 80 on metacritic and probably be among the best selling in the franchise.
