@casey-wegner: I was OK with it but it got old halfway through, having to nail the combo everywhere you went when you just want to explore. Again it just detracts from the game.
I'm not trying to be snobby, just honest about what I like in a Metroid game. I guess it's due to having played previous games, liking the formula, and having expectations based on those experiences.
I'll be looking forward to Metroid Prime 4 and hopefully it ends up being very close to the original Metroid Prime. If not then I'm giving up on the series, and that's OK. The older games still exist and I can play those, plus there are other games that are going for the same formula and I can just play those.
I really don't have to play the new ones.
