Are "HD" versions a scam?

My friends, as a pc gamer, this puzzles my brain quite deeply. Profoundly in-fact. As a pc gamer, When I want to play a better looking title, new or decades old, I simply turn the resolution up. It's like a switch, high/low.And (this doesn't even apply) likewise I can force AA and even ambient occlusion on games that didn't actually have the technology available at the time. When a game gets a 'HD' re-release. 'Next generation re imagining' is anything being done that couldn't be done before? Is it simply a 'switch' to up the resolution and then charge £20 (or even £30).Legit or big scam? Discuss.

This. I never played Tomb Raider last gen and loved Definitive edition. My friend didn't own a PS3 but got a PS4 and is so stoked for the PS4 Last of Us remake. Its a good way for those that didn't get a chance to play a game previously to play an enhanced version. Nobody is making you buy them.

So what is your problem with Tomb Raider being released for the PS4? The game isn't meant for those who have played it on previous systems. Its meant for people who didn't play it and now own a PS4. Why should you even care?
