Anything else worth trying for competitive games?

Just got back into gaming and missed out on many games this gen so I've tried Overwatch, R6: Siege, Destiny 2, Apex Legends and Fortnite.

I despise the community in R6: Siege and wish there were other game modes like previous R6 games

I find Overwatch got boring fast and the European servers have mostly Arabs on them cause they don't get their own servers which sucks

Destiny 2 had some awful event going on with infinite grenades so I stopped playing that for now and didn't like it as much as Halo

I can't get on with Battle Royals it seems

I've thought about Battlefield and CoD since I haven't played them since like 2009 but not sure what they're like nowadays? Anything else I should try? I'm on PS4...

Scene is basically dead dude. Unless you like dumbed down version of Battefield, casual Call of Duty, or crap games like Fortnite and Apex, you're pretty much out of luck. Overwatch I think is good, but I'd never recommend a console version of it.

I guess Rocket League can still be fun?

Dota 2 ✊

You need to be able to handle toxicity though. People there are not nice even by internet standards.

I still think Fortnite and Apex can be very fun. It’s a shame the Apex battle pass is so bad though. As for straight up competitive gaming, Rocket League is where it’s at. I LOVE that game. COD has been kinda “meh” for me this past go around and I haven’t tried too much BFV other than checking out the ray tracing stuff. The pacing and feel of those games has always felt awkward to me.

@needdistraction: Sorry bud, but you're sol. Competitive mp has been crap for years. Heck, my roommate and I have been cleaning xboxes and swapping out thumbsticks for our upcoming halo ce lan. It's still 10x better than any game out now.

Mordhau if you want glorious medieval combat

Rising Storm 2 and Insurgency Sandstorm if you want some quality tactical shooters

Edit: missed the "ps4" part. my suggestions might not be helpful

On consoles, yeah it is. Not on PC though, since there are far more options and players and a higher skill cap with better controls.

Well, good news regarding there were more games like Siege. Tomorrow there is supposedly a new game being announced (likely a new Ghost Recon or Splinter Cell). Hopefully it will be killer and have awesome MP.

Other games you can try on PS4 are America's Army (pretty meh overall in my opinion, but has a decent community), Warface (free to play tactical shooter that feels a lot like a first person SOCOM Confrontation mixed with Battlefield Hardline), and there is Wildlands which as the rumor has it may be getting a sequel announced tomorrow.

There aren't a lot of great shooters out anymore. I am still hoping for a new SOCOM with PS5, and perhaps SOME DAY H-Hour and Task Force may see the light of day on consoles.... still waiting...

Why would you listen to this forum? If you liked CoD/BF just play them... they are essentially the same games more consolised (so worse) but fundamentally still similar games, you point and shoot hooray.

Battlefield isn't a competitive game. The network limitations/issues that come with frostbite don't allow it to be very competitive. They're fun games but you'll be running into a lot of 'BS' moments. I'd recommend Counterstrike GO if you were on PC cause I can't think of many games on the PS4.

Personally for my PVP fix these days I usually play Gears 4 or Forza Horizon 4. They are very different games and both are good for quick sessions. Last gen I was more of a PVP player and these days I am more into PVE. Gears 5 will be my main PVP game when it releases.

I watch more TMM than Aris though since Aris doesn't seem to want to play Tekken anymore.

Firewall: Zero Hour on PSVR. 4 on 4, squad based, with tightly designed maps. No story--all gameplay. Basically it's like Counter-Strike in VR, or, in other words, AWESOME. The community is strong, and continues to grow. If you jump in right now though, be prepared for a stiff learning curve. A lot of players have gotten ridiculously good at it. And be sure to pick up an Aim controller, as there is nothing quite like actually holding up a rifle and physically looking down the sights in VR. Super exhilarating (also pretty damn intense at times--especially if you're playing a skilled squad). They're about to update the game with new maps and game modes, etc., so this is a good time to join up.

That sounds really good but I don't have VR sadly and not much room either so idk if that matters. I just started playing Paladins and it seems so much better than Overwatch

Well you need about five feet of space from the camera, but side to side I'd say just a couple of feet or so, just enough to swing your arms. You want to make sure nothing is blocking the camera however. Best to set up in a dark room with the camera slightly higher than your head. If you set it up right, and get a good host and a good squad, you can go for hours and it's just an amazing experience. One thing about it though is that it's not fantasy/sci-fi related in any way--just pure realistic hardcore military raid shooter. So if you want something like Paladins this might not be for you.

On ps4 your kind of limited. PC has a the best competitive scene.

I suggest

Titanfall 2

Rocket league

Tekken 7

Fighter Z

Trackmania turbo

Overwatch

Smite

You already mentioned rainbow six, cod and BF

I utterly disagree with the latter but I do agree that competitive gaming is one of the most exhilarating aspects gaming. Still subjective at the end though. Some get completely burnt out after years of it but some almost won't play any other type of video game.

You may need a computer to get a truly competitive game like CS or Unreal.. heck even Quake still has somewhat of a scene.

I don't see why. All that matters is facing people of equal or better skill on a level playing field
