Hey friends. Happy holidays.

Its really nice that my launch ps4 is still so relevant. I fully expect to game for another year or so on it before upgrading. I may even wait until the redesigns come in 2023/24 before jumping in on more powerful hardware.

As long as they keep supporting it, I'll still support it.

I am grateful that the ps4 and x1 are not excluded from joining in on the fun and thank you to the companies for setting up a scenario where I can make them earn my money with great unique games before I upgrade.

Anyone else happy to keep their last gen consoles kicking?

@ProtossRushX:

That's such a bad analogy for PS4->PS5.

NES was fundamentally different from the SNES.

PS4 to PS5 is same shit different day.

Yes and no. I’m also still on ps4. I usually lag a year, because I’m cheap like that 🤓. But when I do move up it would be nice if there were some knockout exclusives. But I expect both Horizon and GoW Raganrok to be cross gen actually. I guess progress has just slowed down in general.

It’s also that a 4k 60 fps on ps5 will always be playable on ps4 at 1080p 30. So why would they ever remove cross gen capability?

@ProtossRushX: Both of those Turtles games are epic. All three NES Turtles games are awesome.

Back on topic...

I'm sure many are thankful for cross gen games given that scalpers are making it impossible for many to upgrade.

They always support the previous generation for a year or two. How is now any different?

I agree with you. I am fine with my PS4 and X1X for now, as I will spend the next 6-12 months playing mainly old games that I missed out on. They are games that don't really benefit much from the extra power of the next-gen consoles, for example : KOTOR 2, Far Cry New Dawn, Dead Rising 4, Final Fantasy 9 and Persona 5 Royal. When I have finished playing all those old titles, I will jump to next-gen, and hopefully there will be more true next-gen titles to enjoy at that time, and new games like AC Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion will be cheaper on the Xsex / PS5

Yeah I’m pretty happy for cross-gen games. I’m even happier that some get the free upgrade treatment on the next gen systems. I just recently picked up a few for the Xbox One like:

- Yakuza: Like a Dragon

- Gears Tactics

- Control: Ultimate Edition

I’ll soon be getting:

- Cyberpunk 2077

- Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla

- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

It’s great that I can enjoy them right now and then can enjoy them again with upgrades when I get the Series X.

I got mixed feelings I hate that tech is being held back but money wise it's good no need to buy a new PS5 anytime soon when I can still play the new HZD on my PS4 along with future titles and also the games are still 60 bucks. So that's great in the end It's bad on the tech side but great for the financial side.

If you are just into games, cross gen doesn't change anything for you. Its obvious some folks are not into games. 😉

I liked the idea of the oldest generation version being a completely different game, as opposed to the same dialed down.

Etc..

Stuff like this would help keen investment in the older consoles where they are producing unique content.

But, guess that's not the point.

I mean, for multiplayer games, you get a much larger community, which is great, but the thing i care the most about is crossplay between all the systems. I just want it in every multiplayer game.

After trying the DualSense controller I was ready to throw away the PS4 Pros and Xbox One X consoles that have over stayed their welcome. And those old, slow ass hard drives...

Last gen is so gross now.

I agree. I welcome crossplay in every game now knowing how easy it is to shit on PC players in Cold War.

Why just stop in Cold War? All CoD games that have crossplay is more like it. And in 120fps i bet its even easier.

I'm loving my PS5. Just sold my ps4 last week, I live in the moment. Not really thinking about my 2023, 2024 plans lol. It's actually nice getting all these free upgrades. I'm stoked to play Nioh 2 at 120fps.

The Switch still has y'all shook... Maybe if you both were able to be untethered from your TV's from time to time, you'd be able to see the light.

What makes these consoles special is beyond the tech specs. How you all fail to realize this in this day and age is beyond me. And if tech specs were most important, you'd be PC gamers. But this place is full of hypocritical thinking so what do I expect?

I'm still on PC and Switch and am more than satisfied. However, like you, I am eyeing potential redesigns/pro versions in the future. If I were to get a console at that point I would most likely go with PS5.

I am getting Ps5 and Xbox 1X (or whatever version the new one is called...WTF), but I have zero issues with this. My eyes are not really good enough anymore to even tell the difference anyway. I'm Just getting a Ps5 for Ratchet and Clank and a Xbox whatever cause it looks very much like the space heater I have in my living room already so it matches. I find that to be kinda neat and strange.

Both systems feel like stopgaps for things that are coming rather than what is here. Basically they should have been released in 2021, compelling next-gen software isn't really there yet and third parties have barely put anything out.

There's not a lot of very good reasons to jump into next-gen yet unless you're just looking for general quality of life improvements.

PS4 Pro and Xbox One X are still really powerful, so yeah I'm happy.

This is like supporting low end PC hardware as well as high end PC hardware.

I played Mafia DE, Crash 4, Ghost of Tsushima, TLOU 2 on PS4 this year and they look simply great. I don't need a next gen console any time soon, especially with the prices for next gen games they are asking.

I think it's great you guys can use your PS4 and XOne still. Especially since new consoles often have hardware problems at launch. Later when you guys need a new console for new games, the problems are hopefully fixed, and you'll have a bigger selection of games rather than just one or two.

Hyping the DualSense...

After playing through Astro's Playroom, I don't see anything special at all. It's just more refined rumble and some force feedback triggers. I could easily play any game without the DualSense and not feel like I am missing out on anything important.

The only one here that's a hypocrite here is you.

@goldenelementxl: lol... I figure once you jump the quality of life improvements are noticeable and hard to go back on. I am just happy to have that final rattle on ps4 while ps5 and x build up a library of games my ps4 can't do. I really am ok with ps4 being the 1080p 30fps machine.

You said you were getting the x-series x before you bought any new games and that you were just gonna buy next gen version only games and didn't care about upgrades.

Now your buying call of duty which doesn't even have an upgrade path on xbox one to x-series x? Why? You changed your mind again.

@ProtossRushX: Not sure if that was sarcasm or not, but there were always cross gen games, especially between 8 and 16bit generations. There are hundreds of games that got ports between ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amiga 500, Nes, Master System 2, Megadrive, Snes, Arcade, etc.

Cross gen games were always a thing through the first years of any generation. Despite being an early adopter, i do support that.

I'm going to wait at least a year before I jump into the new Gen.

I'm playing through Control right now, Cyberpunk comes out in less than two weeks, so im good for the rest of the year into early next year.

I still want to play Nioh 1 and 2; Destroy All Humans Remake, and a ton of other games I missed out on.

I would prefer next gen exclusives features on newer releases similar to the nemesis system in shadow of mordor.

@i_p_daily: I don’t “shit on” the PS4 and Xbox One. I “shit on” their fanboy clans and the stupid shit they say. There’s a BIG difference there

The GDDR5 hype

The Xbox One X and all the silly overhype from the fanboys. It beating a 1070, “true 4K,” “I bet most games will be native 4K/60 etc

The Series X beating a RTX 2080 Super

We already have a large number of sub 4K/60fps games for the Xbox Series X and PS5. But folks told us the Xbox One X was gonna do that... What happened? Oh I know. “Teh toolz” is the new talking point, right?

People claiming to be “hardcore” while hyping console specs and tech are clowns. These console are falling behind the RTX 2060 Super in raytracing performance. That’s the low end RTX card from 18 months ago. These console are less than a month old, are getting beat by the low end last gen GPUs and these are the machines we are gonna be stuck with until 2027?!?! That’s why console gaming needs to be about more than specs. It’s a losing battle. That’s why the Switch, and a lesser extent the DualSense are such a big deal. You have to bring something unique to the table.

If Cows and Lems just accepted their favorite boxes place in the hierarchy, things would be cool. Y’all move to dismiss PC until you think your box is doing something powerful, then y’all are the ones comparing your toys to high end PCs. And when it becomes clear y’all were wrong, again, that’s when you start dismissing PC. Until you have another new box, then y’all can’t help yourselves.

Lems and Cows are the hypocrites on this board. The mental gymnastics you all perform each generation is awe inspiring yet vomit inducing.

While I'm primarily a PC gamer, these next-gen consoles aren't exactly all that to be as we were told and I still have zero reasons to go buy a PS5 and the fact Sony will continue porting new games on PS4, no point in me buying PS5 despite there games will support 60fps. Anyone who has a good PC isn't going to go buy XSX unless you are doing it for BC of course.

At this time, Nintendo Switch is at least different console compare to PS5/XSX only because the Switch is unique and more towards innovation making it the Switch is a next-gen on it's own merits.

@ProtossRushX: Well my plan was to get an Xbox Series X when it launched but I wasn’t able to do so. Plans change though especially in these unprecedented times so I decided just to go ahead and pick up the games now. I’m getting the Xbox Series X version of Call of Duty which is $10 more but is also playable on the Xbox One. It’s pretty crappy how Activision has handled their cross gen games but it is what it is.

I think more-so than anything, i appreciate the support for cross-gen online multiplayer and progression.. At the beginning of last gen, i upgraded to an Xbox One before many of my friends who still had an Xbox 360 and it sucked to no longer be able to game with them anymore (at the time, we were all really into Battlefield 4 and there was zero cross-gen online play).. That's no longer an issue now.. Again, i'm one of the first people in my group to be able to grab an Xbox Series console but this time we're all seamlessly apart of the same online community with no issues or separation..

the increasing support for crossplatform crossplay is also very much appreciated.. i'm looking forward to finally playing more and more games with both my PC and PlayStation buddies..

I do agree on one thing, this has to be the least "exciting" generation change i've ever experienced due to the lack of "next-gen only" games that can only be played on the new hardware.. But i honestly don't mind since cross-gen support is a very consumer friendly move for all the people who couldn't upgrade yet..

@Antwan3K: I agree. Cross-play is amazing and I love that it works across generations. Bravo to those involved that made it happen.

He is the same person who viewed the Switch as the only true next gen. So, needless to say, you don't take him seriously.

Lets see, I have a Switch and I have access to xCloud with Kishi. So, what is your point again?

What make any console special beyond their specs? Gimmicks like the Wii controller and Kinect? I hope you were the biggest supporter of the Kinect based on your response. It would be a shame if you were being hypocritical. 😉

I currently have a Kinect 2.0 hooked up in my theater room. Do you?

The PS and Xbox fight is boring without innovation. PSVR was a big plus for PS4. The Kinect 2.0 is the only thing the Xbox One had going for it at launch. Without something beyond pixels and frames, console wars are boring. The only thing making this new gen exciting is the DualSense and the Digital Foundry videos that have results defying the technical specs on paper. That's pretty lame. Nintendo offers something new. Playstation and Xbox offer less "new" with every release.

Y'all can't understand why the system with the "weakest" hardware has the best software library AND is the highest selling system for 23 consecutive months. That's OK... Phil Spencer and Jim Ryan don't get it either.

I think cross-gen functionality eases things into the new gen. I don't have my XSX isolated to only play 9th gen games and I can jump back into playing my 8th gen games really just makes my XSX feel like only machine I have to worry about firing up being able to jump between either generation of games with ease.

I know some people are convinced they need a overwhelming justification for making the upgrade. Way I see it, these systems will still be $500 whether one gets it now or later, better to get and enjoy mine right away.

I still kept my XB1X for another part of the house.
