I just did. After playing Breath of the Wild already, I thought I could skip out on a Switch for the gen, but the lineup keeps getting better and the future is promising. Astral Chain, Link's Frame Rate Awakening, BotW 2, Animal Crossing and so on. Went to Gamestop for the first time in literal years and picked it up at the 11pm release. Wasn't really much of a line and I didn't have a pre-order, so I just scooped it up. Also picked up a copy of Mario Odyssey with it, since I was never really sure about it. I was more impressed with Mario Galaxy overall, and thought Odyssey looked like a step back, but now I get to try it for myself.

It's a nice little device so far. This is my first time really getting to spend time with a Switch, I knew about the lack of multimedia features in advance, so, not too big a deal since I have that stuff on EVERY other device. It's light and the build quality feels sturdy. The sticks, for me, are gonna take some getting used to since the asymmetrical layout makes it a little hard to hold in my case. But, I've joined the flock.

With that being said...

Apparently it still has drift and given the "joycons" are a permanent fixture of the system that doesn't sound ideal.

If that's the case with the drift, I have yet to experience it. But, I have to wait until later to get into it more. It's been a long night.

Not sure why you'd take this over the one you can connect to a TV, but cool that you like it.

Since this is fully handheld, I don't see why they are still using the default Switch design. Decades ago the Game Gear established a perfect design for the consumers palms/fingers, yet here we are with an uncomfortable flat square brick like they never progressed pass the Gameboy.

I wasn't sure what to get, this or the original but since I have an Xbox One X already, it didn't make sense for me to add another home console at home despite the docking is optional but I'm gonna go ahead and buy Switch Lite because I'll all be doing is just playing Nintendo games on it and use my Xbox One X for everything else. Plus, this thing is dirty cheap!!!

How's the dpad, since it's off center to the face buttons?

Can you hold this comfortably like a 2D style SNES controller?

I'm going to stick with the original as I primarily use it as a TV console. I don't think I'll ever buy myself another handheld only system.

Agreed. To not make it more comfortable than the original for handheld play is freaking weird. It's getting a bit annoying having to buy a third party shell for all of Nintendo's hardware since the 3DS. Nintendo should remind themselves what human hands looks like.

@uninspiredcup: I still really enjoy my Game Gear and yeah, I noticed it's designed to be comfortable in an adult's hands.

I sometimes wonder what we would have had if Sega had been more successful. What would Game Gear's successor looked like? I feel the Playstation handhelds are a good physical indication for what it would have looked like but fatter. Sega games in a well done modern system made by Sega. A pipe dream as we obviously know the reality but still a dream.

@Litchie: I've played 95 percent of my switch in handheld mode.

All of breath of the wild...

All of Skyrim...

Every game I have really. I treat the TV mode as my fallback if I need to charge.

Nah I can't use the Switch in handheld mode. It's an ergonomic disaster for my hands.

I think it's a really poor design.

I don't really have anything to test it out against but Mario Odyssey. The real test of a d-pad for me is a fighting game. So far, it seems to be okay. I've heard a reviewer complaining about diagonals, but I'm not sure. I know it feels good at least, since it's a traditional directional cross. Which is more ideal for me instead of what the Joycon did with buttons.

It seems like it's suited for NES/SNES-styled gaming for that reason alone.

Nah I am happy with my regular Switch. Whatever the definitive final iteration of the Switch is and when it comes out - I'll probably go with that one - but for now I see no reason to have the Switch Lite.

I’ll stick with the original Switch that I currently have as I like to be able to switch between tv and handheld.

Nope, and i never will. i prefer the regular Switch because i like the option of playing in handheld or TV mode.

besides, playing games for long periods of time with that analog stick placement along with the offset face buttons on such a small device would cause my hands to look like hanson's from scary movie 2

Nah, this version isn't for me. I like to keep my Switch on my TV. Dying to buy Link's Awakening, but hoping a performance patch is incoming.

But good on you for buying one. The number of incredible games on Switch makes it very enticing hey :)

No, because I already have the regular Switch. Personally I wouldn't want to give up the ability to dock and play on my TV, or not be able to detach the joycons.

It's a great little system though. Easily Nintendo's best in a long time. Excellent library of games so far.

Not me, I already have a Switch and if I want another one it will be another exactly alike, that unless Nintendo launches an XL version.

Got a grey one with Link's Awakening. It is a very nice piece of technology even without the ability to dock.

I actually use my og Switch more in tabletop mode than any other. I only use it as a handheld if there's not a flat surface available.

If you are never going to play the switch on a tv then the switch lite is perfect. Me personally, I play on both the tv and on the go so the regular switch suits me. Congrats on the switch lite.

To be more accurate, it seems to use the same sticks, which in theory means that the will drift after a while of heavy use. Youre not gonna see it on a brand new unit. Could be 6 months, could be a year, could be 2 years, could be never.

@techhog89: my original set of joycons had this issue but a second set I bought about 7 months ago have yet to experience this. Wasn’t this issue only affected by launch units and Nintendo made a manufacturing fix to prevent newer models from experience this?

Yeah. Fingers crossed. So far, everything's going well. No dead pixels, no issues with buttons or sticks. Like I say, seems like a sturdy device. I don't see why this shouldn't last a long time.

Most people believe that it's a design flaw that will require a full redesign of the stick to fix.

No. The lite feels like a downgrade on every front compared to my OG model except in battery life. I would spend money on a more powerful model, not on one with stripped features.

Coolyfett got one on Friday morning. Please add Coolyfett SW-3991-1430-7229. So far the handheld feels good. Its not heavy at all. Nintendo needs to produce more colors though. Truly believe the Switch Lite has the potential to do DS \ Gameboy numbers if Nintendo plays their cards right. Whats with the tiny text on games? Very hard to read and it seems to be most titles. Speaker positioning could be better. Speakers should face the player and not away from the player. This hurts the audio. Battery life is good. Nintendo may have something having the Switch & Switch Lite out there. Switch can do all the motion games and output to TV, Switch Lite puts many of the games in handheld mode. Put out another revision and more colors and Nintendo should be winning.

@Coolyfett: They really need to implement a system that enlarges text for all games when being played in handheld. Vita has the same issue, I couldn't play Darkest Dungeon on Vita because of it.

It fits well in many pockets. If Nintendo can get the screen larger, speakers louder but the device smaller. They could have the best handheld of all time.

Yea man!! Been on that Ultimate Alliance 3, print is constantly popping up on the screen, Coolyfett can barely read it.
